  • Wow both so different, and so nice. Amazing phrasing of Mr.Catherine, and what a nice sound...

  • aside from terrific playing, Catherine has a great tone, humbuckers sound much better with roundwounds.

  • ok i hear the ending :)

  • is this a very vague take on autumn leaves?

  • @jonnyrokr I don't think there's anything vague about it, I think it's just Autumn Leaves.

  • @HendrixcommaMartin yeah your right. It took me a while to concretely convince myself

  • both brilliant

  • Oh, my bad... It is 3 :41 - 3:48...

  • Is it just me or the part between 1:41 - 1:48 really sounds baroqueish?

  • @vekkifixx

The us of "imitative counterpoint" -- multiple voices simultaneously playing the same theme or variations on it -- is consider typical of Baroque music. As you noted, these gents use the same technique here, thought in a more simple manner. If you want to find out more, I recommend listening to and reading about "Die Kunst Der Fuge" by J.S. Bach. This set of fourteen pieces explores the possibilities of imitative counterpoint in full (as does other music by the same composer)..

  • @gr0mithtimon Wow! Thanx for the info. I knew it was some kind of counterpoint and I am aware of the fact that counterpoint isn't used just in baroque music, but I was really stunned to see that improvisation headed in that direction. You know, first they are playing bebop and I visualized myself a jazz club full of cigarette smoke and black people drinking hard liquor, and then...BAM!...I found myself in a evangelic church, somewhere in rural Austria (it's the fall of 1735)...

  • @gr0mithtimon As for that book recommendation of yours,I've already heard of it.It is just I'm not yet ready for it.You can't "study biochemistry before you fully master the organic chemistry",if you know what I mean.I tried to write a baroque style contrapunctal piece once and I couldn't get pass the third bar...It just "jumped" into more of a romantic style of composition...Nothing strange, since I'm not much of a composer, but still...To write a fugue is a master craft. At least for many ppl.

  • Fascinating this dialog between Philip and Biréli!

  • real good jazz guitar, i love it. the reason is that both have to do with django's heritage and both have gigantic talent.

  • Deux formidables guitaristes. Un pur bonheur !

  • I saw Philip Catherine in a jazz festival here in Belgium. That was just breath-taking.

  • whenver these guys team up, magic happens

  • A couple of the really greats. I do not know how this post escaped me.

  • OMG! 3:20 Bach style duet! Brilliant!

  • @kingofskateop

    hardly

  • i dont know why but i think this bireli has some really special sound......

  • @bonifazius45 yeah, I read somewhere that when Django's brother first heard Bireli play, he broke into tears on the spot.

  • @RailroadBill76 and he should =)

  • ooohhh yes!

  • Awesome (comment ;-) and) musicians !

  • ;))
