  • good for you!!! you're up to almost 90,000 views. Congrats Peter!!!! You Rock!!!

  • beautiful! I love the idea!

  • I would need like 20 years to collect so many bottles...

  • lol... nice nose ring DUDE...

Sorry it's the first thing I noticed.

    Nice plants too though.

  • I found the 'lecture' very informative and interesting! Thanks for sharing the idea (and the info!)

  • I wish you opened the door and you showed the inside. It is really cool, congrats.! : )

  • THAT IS AWSOME....THANKS FOR HELPING ONE BOTTLE AT A TIME .

  • Bottle Gardening Where? Greenhouse? Oh....I see it now....okay

  • u like like Hugh Laurie when he was younger!!!

  • This is not a greenhouse! The only thing this is a barrier to is kids and pets.

  • enough with those boring herbs, show us the 30 foot tall weed plant

  • erbs

  • your hot!!

  • You could create a heat collector for the North Wall of a greenhouse using whole bottles of water with a dash of bleach, but this isn't a greenhouse.

Try this. Snip off the bottoms of the bottles, put them on a PVC spindle top down and nested together, and caulk them watertight. Pump water up through the PVC and let it gurgle all the way back down.

Store the water in a large drum and circulate it at night to warm the greenhouse.

  • @Jkirk3279 you are a genius. i was thinking of the same thing, but didn't think about circulation or bleach (even though i saw a "window" made in a ceiling with a single bottle of water and a little bleach). the beach is for algae, i assume, but does it degrade gasket seals?

  • If you were going for screening walls I think you may have found something. As far as a greenhouse goes I don't see good sunlight coming though those walls. I was hoping you were going to open the door on that greenhouse so we could see if light really gets through or not.

  • I imagine the out gassing from the bottles would taint anything grown inside.

  • over time the plastic will break down and poison the ground

  • To really make use of plastic bottles you can cut off top and bottom parts of bottle and then cut resulting cilinder to make a sheet of plastic. Then staple these sheets to a frame and you will have a greenhouse with cheap "glass" (cheaper then polycarbonate or glass) but more durable then plastic film greenhouse.

  • The idea to utilize plastic bottles is cool, however unfortunately this does not work as greenhouse.

The idea of greenhouse is to capture warm air and don't let it escape while allowing sunbeams to enter. In this "greenhouse" the warm air escapes through the holes between the bottles. This is not likely to increase the temperature inside a single degree. The only effect bottles will have is diffusing some light (which can be both bad or good for plants).

  • just an idea but if you turn the bottles on your greenhouse upside down so the neck of bottle is facing down, you can harvest the dew/rain/Condensation from the bottom...?

  • Igrew up with mother teaching me gardening , today schools have to be parents....good for the schools and shame on the parents

  • Arbonac and petthekitty: We wrapped the greenhouse.

  • ARE YOU PEOPLE DUMB??? PLASTIC???? DO YOU FOLKS HAVE ANY CLUE WHAT IS IN THAT PLASTIC??? SO YOU START A PLASTIC BOTTLE GARDEN , SO YOU CAN PERSONALLY REGULATE WHAT CHEMICALS AN FERTILIZERS GO IN TOO YOUR FOOD. OK THATS GOOD BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE CANCER CAUSING CHEMICALS THAT LEACH OUT OF THE PLASTIC !!! WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY ..... TAPPED ...... HOPEFULLY SOME OF YOU FOLKS WILL WAKE UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • By Law we can not reuse food grade plastic. That needs to change. We can recycle food grade plastics into other products. ALL PLASTICS CAN BE RECYCLED!

  • over 99% of daily trash can be reused in productive ways, nice video

  • So bugs can just fly through? That kind of defeats the purpose of a greenhouse.

  • @arbonac Well actually, the purpose is to hold heat in the cold months, and control the environment year round, this is not a greenhouse, lol

  • love it carnt afford a green house think we should have a go at making one of these

  • boringggg i was hoping to hear about the efficiency of a bottle green house. i was looking to build one but now im going to waste more bottles out of spite

  • Most of those bottles end up in the ocean. I personally do not to buy products in pet-bottles.

  • What about Carcinogens and toxins that seep out of PET bottles? I find using any kind of plastic in growing food at best dubious.

Having said that, it is very difficult to get away from using them, be it PVC, PET, PE, etc.

    Great work!

  • Peter great idea, I totally share your hope for a better world!

  • Love your message :)
