Also, if I recall this correctly from my European History class, Kaiser Wilhelm pushed your lines pretty far back did he not? While US soldiers at that time were indeed pathetic, being improperly trained, they gave the rest of the forces ample time to recuperate and return to the front lines where we worked together for once. Yes I understand, but what 630MillionZombies is saying is that the amplitude required would be too high for a set of headphones. I'm not sure I agree with him though... Because you could use the headphones firstly as a set of ear-protectors, and then you would only have to supply the same amount of acoustic energy as was being transmitted through the ear-protectors... You could use extra-aural protectors with in-ear cancelling transmitters. Hell I don't know, but it's possible.

This in no way changes the effectiveness of the LRAD. Even if a terrorist group/cell wore this... I wonder how easy they will be to stop... Or i don't know, spot out of a crowd? Even on the water, a vessel approaching a US ship wearing huge helmets like that, there would be no hesitation to blow them out of the water. We may need this. The San Diego Sheriff's Department has at least one LRAD for crowd control and any rational citizen would have to ask why they'd need such a thing. The answer can't be a good one.

There's an easier way than THAT getup, though. Noise cancelling headphones, in a closed motorcycle helmet, with 30 dB in-ear fitted earplugs, will give more than enough protection against an LRAD and it's not bulky.
