She's not in any of the new games because she has grown too powerful in between. It's obvious that Mima's power grows disproportionately fast, during her first appearance she's an early boss, next thing you see she's a final boss, and Touhou Soccer gives us the world-destroying TWILIGHT SPARK. What would happen were she to reappear now? No one could stand against her. She knows it, and she thinks the world is not worth her time.

Which is exactly why I think ZUN should bring her back in the final game he makes.

I'm not saying he should stop, of couse.

But inevitably, he will. And on the last game, I think mima should be the final boss, or extra boss. (or both)

I remember the first time I visited the Hakurei Shrine. A lonely shrine somewhere in Gensokyo. I laughed at the fact that it was a Godless shrine. I laughed at the fact that the shrine maiden was a lazy woman. I laughed at the fact that its once powerful God was no more.

Now I regret laughing. For I'm afraid. Afraid of the Twilight Spark. Afraid of the greatest and most powerful sorcerer in Gensokyo. Afraid of her return. Afraid of death. Afraid of destruction. Afraid of Mima.

that, combined with the plot point from Mountain of Faith of gods losing power due to lack of faith, gives me one theory of why Mima seems to have vanished. And makes for another amusing drawing I don't have the motivation to even start.
