he completely changes the rhythm... thats not interpretation thats what my guitar professor yells at me for. COUNT man... this sounds silly especially at the end.
@xXConfuocoXx That sort of dotted quarter note sound he gets on the main melody line isn't technically correct, but then again Segovia played the piece that way, so I think it's acceptable. He's a maestro, so he's free to takes some liberties and make an overplayed piece interesting again, I'm sure he could play it slowly and a tempo if he wanted to.
@QGfk1 i have issues with the way segovia played as well. in my humble opinion people give segovia too much credit - they look at him as though he could do no wrong. Listening to recordings of him i find he has pretty sloppy technique in his right hand especially. he plays with it bunched up like a paraplegic, his tone isnt that grand often getting too bright and scratchy (the improperly shaped nail sound you get on the strings.) for his time segovia was brilliant, but times have changed.
Est-ce qu'on pourrait se limiter à ne faire ici que de commentaires concernant l'interpretation de l'oeuvre de Villa-Lobos, au lieu de venir poster des conneries totalement déplacées? Merci.
@ally451 "I prefer a bit more rubato". Are you crazy, this version has more rubato in it than all the other versions put together. Open your ears, it's brilliant, a completely fresh look at an old war horse.
@Jitpring its odd to say that 'usually its a catastrophe'. If guitarists focused their attention on the score alone instead of copying their favorite recording, many performances would be quite 'quite different' . 'All the same' stems from the arrogant idea that one guitarist got it right and from here on out we should bassically base our interpretation on theirs. The Glenn Goulds and the Paul Galbraiths will be rememebred, not the imitators.
Villa-Lobos was perhaps the greatest guitar composer ever.

I cant't disagree, It is a very nice interpretation, however it's not for me. I just feel its a bit rushed, I prefer a bit more rubato.

Quite different than how I've normally heard it performed. Yet still wonderful coming from the excellent Azabagic.

"Quite different' is a good sign; it shows original personal musical insight. Azabagic is enlightening.

"'Quite different' is a good sign."
Not necessarily. Usually, in fact, it's a catastrophe. In this case, however, it's interesting.
