This is bittersweet, seeing the very places where movie magic happened and so many childhood memories were born. So sad to see what the past 30 years has done to some of them though. It's a reminder how nothing lasts forever in this life even us that remembers such things will all be gone in time and all will be left is this film for future generations to see what once was but will never experience it like us that lived in that time did....
Some of the pictures sort of have an eerie, but whimsical feel about them. Frozen in time. So close and familiar, yet so distant and far-gone. Kind of reminds me of the countryside near where I grew up. :)
i miss the old days its all punks and no good movies and cant just go to corner store and buy a pop for couple coins and now the world is filled with killers and pussys
Thanks For posting this!!!!! Im from Scotland and own a 1981 Turbo Transam and grew up watching this great movie!! You've just given m,e a Great idea for my 40 th Birthday next year!!! I was planning on Having 2 or 3 days in Florida(near Daytona)then heading to Boston for 2 nights then New York for 7,Im just gonna have to squeeze in a Smokey and the Bandit Tour en route now!!!!!
This has to be one of the most beautiful flashbacks of a childs history in film. Our first VHS cassette was Smokey And The Bandit , im 36 now, and while movies are great now, they just arent made the way they were.
I loved this movie as a kid then in 1995 I moved off of 85n and pleasant hill and never knew the gas station scene was filmed at what is now gwinnett place mall
you ever watched an "in memory" video of someone you never met, but feel as tho you knew? and even tho you never met them, you have that feeling of loss in your chest like when a relative dies? thats how i feel seeing how "progress" has destroyed america. ive never liked burt, or trans ams, but ive seen this movie at least once a month since i was 8 or 9 (22 now) and i watch it on the original beta. you gotta love fast cars and crappy acting, right?
this is awesome, love this movie. its so weird to see how much things change. near the end of the video it was really wierd to see how some things looked the same just overgrown and whatnot. amazing video!
If Jonesboro wernt so close to Atlanta, maybe like a 100 miles away, alot of those locations would still look the same. Thanks to big cities period, alot of beautiful, open & quiet country landscape like that is forever gone. Progress sucks.
Some of those trees in the scenes really got tall in 30 years.
I actually bought myself a 1978 TA 6.6 litre Trans Am after watching this movie in 1977.Same exact color---black & gold trim special editon with the gold "flaming eagle" on the hood-----one truly bad ass car. Brought back a lot of memories!
I don`t have the TA anymore.I wish i still had it though. At the time in 1978 i was driving 120 miles a day to and from my job at General Motors in Kalamazoo Mich.I was making the equivalent of $28 an hour in todays dollars. One day i was driving in and i fell asleep behind the wheel and rolled Trans Am 6 times according to witnesses.I did`nt have a seat belt on and how i stayed in the car is a mystery to me.The car was totalled. It broke my heart.I loved that car.
One of the things I LOVE about that movie is the look of a "simpler time". Today things are so out of control with development, everyone has forgotten who they are and where they came from - Seemed like a much different time back then... Soooo much quiet land, too.
This is my home.. OMG I am in the North East now, I just never thought I could miss pine trees, back roads, swimming holes and fishing holes. I went to so many in this area and thought it was so boring. I am so home sick right now.
All my favorites are in this video. Thank you Sir.
Thank you so much for this video. We lived in Jonesboro, off Mundy's Mill Rd. and saw some of the filming. We also grew up going to the Lakewood Fairgrounds and even rode the old roller coaster that was demolished in the filming of the 2nd movie. You brought back a lot of memories for me.
This video is just proof of how America is fallign apart. My dad always talks about how fun my town use to be, how they use to cruise around in his GTO. Now all of the furniture factories are gone and the town is dying.
I just like to say how this movie inspired me so long ago how 30years on life is gone in blink of an eye but burt and sally remain young as do our hearts and the trans am will always be trigger and how we yern for yeserday well done wha an adventure guys to follows the steps of bo
waw man nice clip rely thnx for thes video clip pls have a look to my car its 1980 trans am i am from saudi arabia you can see it in you tube ( trans am alyoubi ) and pls i need the name of song to down load it from the net
Alot can happen in 30 years you can see new buildens up around old ones that were there trees that were real small now Big trees, add ons to the old buildenings there were very few Rare pictures they were about the same as 30 years ago, Nice video from way back then must have been alot of hard work and research too find the right sopts too take the pictures Thanks :D
Excellent video!! I grew up all over the south side of Atlanta and it brought back a lot of memories for me! Every time I watch Smoky and the Bandit I would try to pick out places I recognize. Quite a few surprises in your video too for me! A++
Truly sad about the bridge jump place, if u just came across taht spot u might never even know there was a bridge there or the epic jump that occured there.
Somebody please build me a time machine! I need to escape the hell that is 2010, & return to the simple, carefree pleasures of 1977! Life was so much better & simpler back then. It's sad to see the fairgrounds reduced to practically nothing!
This was just an incredible video. I was stunned how much things have changed in just 30 years in some of the photos. Some of the buildings look like they've been abandoned for 100 years, the earth eventually reclaims all.
Yes, some buildings were either completely gone or were in the process of reclamation. However, like many parts of the south, many places were still there and looked the same from 3 decades ago.
The end of the video was truly sad though. The fairgrounds have pretty much gone to waste and it was so strange to see total abandonment in a place that was once bustling with people and activities.
Great video, great music. I loved that era and I remember it like it was yesterday . . .
im 25 and watched smokey and the bandit hundreds of times. love that movie. just watched it last week again along with 2 &3. unfortunately 2&3 were pretty much a waste of time. only watch them for the cars and stunts. trans ams are my favorite cars. love the 77 T/A, but the 78-81 is my least favorite. that front end ruins the look. how cool would a remake be? not to replace the old one tho. nothing can do that!
That was awesome , Thanks .... It was my favorite movie it the whole world . I got my own trans am now and it was just really nice to see ALL THAT . They have a Bandit Run every year now and I think that would be a great idea for the run , go to all the original sites ...... thanks again , great job ... Loved it ....
What a touching video. How its changed so much since the time of the great smokey and the bandit ruled those roads. Incredible differences. Life is life, always changing. I'm pleased to see some areas remained as is, and not timbered down. Great video.
@wildbill0088 Sadly we did not know it then, we all lived thinking of the future, not what we had. Never dreamed it would get worse instead of better. I mostly think of the freedom, but must also remember there were millions less cars on the road then.
Thanks for the memories, I grew up in Jonesboro when this movie was being filmed, I attended Mundy's Mill Jr. High and watched a lot of the scenes being filmed, this really took me back...Thanks Again!
Great Video. I remember grow up in North America in the 70's. Car was simple in which you can work on before computer control was install. They were simple & fast!
Im a big bandit fan,,and that was a great job on that video you made man,,nice job again,Im in cincinnati ohio and i think im going to try to do my own video like yours sometime ..but better..
My favorite movie of all time,, even though it was made 4 years before i was born!!, lol,, gotta love it,, RIP,, Jackie Gleason,, Jerry Reed,, and Last but Definately not least... RIP FRED!!!!!!!
Great video but a sad testament as to how urban sprawl can drastically change the landscape of a city. However, I was relieved to see that some buildings and scenery were left intact after some 30 years.
Progress is something that we will never stop. It's amazing how some of the locations haven't changed at all. Seeing the fairgrounds which once attracted lot of people is sad reminder of what change can do.
It's surprising to see how often things like telephone poles change and are replaced. You'd think they'd have longer lifespans. A lot of trees/shrubs next to buildings were removed, too. Just funny. :p
That was awesome, Its weird to see how things are so different now. Life was so much better then.. 5 star video thanx for giving it to us, CHRIS... =)
Oh, man! What a trip down memory lane. I was raised in Jonesboro, lived on North Main St from 1963 to 1980. Was working at the DQ when the trailer with 3 Bandit TA's pulled up to park in the lot across the street where Kent's grocery had been. We used to go hang out on the old bridge off Flint River Rd (it was intact before SATB, they wrecked the middle out of it for the movie). You know, for a lot of us, we really do think of SATB as a documentary, hehe. Thank you SO much for the slideshow.
Great video . Love watching videos like this. Now and then wow a lot of changes from the good old days and not allways for the better i think. Miss those years so much as life is such a rat race now with so much death and destruction now. Thanks for this video its really good.
Thanks so much for the trip down memory lane. My parents took me to that movie when it came out (I was 8). I still remember all the guys in their TA's peeling out of the parking lot afterwards. When I remember my youth - this is the movie that defined it. Thanks again
You did an excellent job, thanks. The music was perfect. Its a little sad to mark the passage of time, but also comforting to see that most of the scenery hasn't changed much. I did find it funny that the general store (next to the beer storage place) that was there in 1976 is now a gourmet coffee place. See 2:21.
I was 8 years old when this movie came out, and have been addicted every since. I own a '77 SE T/A, my wife says I'm insane over smokey and the bandit! Great video, well done!!
Great Video!! I used to go to lakewood for the Nopi Nationals in the late 90's before the show was moved to AMS. Lakewood has changed alot in the past 10 yeaars
I was born the following year I can't remeber the first time I saw it but I remeber it was on tv I have seen it 1,000 times since I have seen 2 and 3 as well but the orginal was the best of the all and my favorite movie of all time thanks for posting it I remeber then how I wanted a trans-am I still do but I want the 78 verson for my birth year of course but it has to be black with t-tops maybe one day I can get one that was a bad car back then I wish pontaic still made it in that style.
I was born the same year the movie came out. I saw this movie for the first time when I was 5 with my parents...and I loved it from the beginning. It's still one of my all time favorite movies. And for a couple of years now I'm a Mom and I watch this movie with my son...he really loves it... he like to be a truck driver when he's grown up ( sooooooo like me when I was 10 :D )
I hope that people realize how a goofy little road trip movie,(one of my all time favorite movies period), can be a staple of history. And for you to have then and now'd it so immaculatly. God bless you and your realization of the effect this movie had on all of us who were teenagers when this movie came out.
Thanks for video. When I get to US again (from Finland) I want to make a road trip too see some of these places. Too bad almost all tends to look nicer back then than today. maybe it is just for having got used to the movie scenes. But I quess ´70s was nice decade (was born then). :-)
Damn good video. My father was a State Trooper who was hired by Reynolds to work security on the set. They wound up being in the movie as extras, and drove in the big chase scene at the end. I really enjoyed seeing the scenes and what they look like now, kinda sad to see Lakewood in the shape it's in these days. That used to be the place to be back in the day.
Wow. I was born and raised in Riverdale, and I almost forgot there used to be a fruit stand at the corner of 85 and 138. And a flea market. And 138 was two lanes, not five then.
The Lakewood photos are sad to me - a place once teeming with life, now abandoned and forgotten like a lot of old Atlanta area landmarks. Mundy's Mill comes to mind, too. My brother still lives across the street from the old mill, which I think was burned down, but never rebuilt.
amigo, you are the king. that was awesome. while i did live almost 5 hours southeast, away from atlanta in georgia, at brunswick, you made me miss home really bad. this movie inspired me to get a '78 trans am. i hate my exwife thouroughly, and even more now. memory lane is an amazing road.
This is bittersweet, seeing the very places where movie magic happened and so many childhood memories were born. So sad to see what the past 30 years has done to some of them though.

Just funny. :p
Good show. Nice work.

Thanks again

its a shame to see the scenery all change and become derelict but still a great video
captjackgrizzlybear 2 years ago
You did an excellent job, thanks. The music was perfect. Its a little sad to mark the passage of time, but also comforting to see that most of the scenery hasn't changed much. I did find it funny that the general store (next to the beer storage place) that was there in 1976 is now a gourmet coffee place. See 2:21.

Back in 1977/1978 the Black SE T/A with gold stripping was the hottest ticket around.
Next one down was the Camaro Z/28 that you could buy brand new under $9,000

I was 8 years old when this movie came out, and have been addicted every since. I own a '77 SE T/A, my wife says I'm insane over smokey and the bandit! Great video, well done!!

Thanks for the memories!
