Wilhelmina: the last great Queen of the Netherlands. She opposed (national) socialism and fruitless parliamentarism. She knew all too well that rights are nothing till they have established themselves as mights. She also knew that a true monarch should be above the people and lead the common man, who needs someone he can look up to, towards a more noble cause than a simple state handout. We still miss this extraordinary woman.

The present Queen who is on the throne since 1980 till now, has her birthday on January 31. The lightful holiday stayed on April 30 because they didn't want to change it to the Winter. Her coronation was also on April 30 1980, the 71st birthday of her mother. She was on the throne from 1948 till 1980 and they decided to keep the Queensday holiday on that date.
Since 1898, the portrait became with her hair in a bum and a crown. In 1890 I believe, the national holiday: Princess day was introduced on August 31, in 1898 it became Queensday. Since 1949 Queensday is on April 30.
This was the Dutch Queen grandmother so to speak, she ruled the Netherlands the longests of all (1898-1948) born in 1880 and died in 1962. Her father King William the 3rd died in 1890 and his daughter should already become Queen when she was 10 years old. But she had her real coronation when she was 18. Old Dutch coins from 1890 till 1898 have the portrait of the young girl Princess Wilhelmina on them with loose hair.

Het grote kleine vrouwtje.
Toen zij in de late herfst van 1962 overleed begreep ik als klein jochie niet waarom moeder en grootmoeder zo huilden.
