I think this is one reason many foreign teachers don't give speaking tests. Multiple-choice written exams are far less depressing for both parties.
Seriously though, in my lowest proficiency/motivation classes, the text is too hard and administrative expectations too high, so in my one-on-ones, I just ask the student to recall 5 things they remember from the previous chapter (a mix of grammar, vocabulary and content). For those who didn't prep, it's over as soon as it starts...:)
@Elaina43 Question one was to use the present simple. That's all.. I mean, "everything!" He could have said, They usually wear shoes, they usually watch TV, they usually sit in the living room, etc...
Student English better than I Spanish talk. Now sorry for people hearing me talk Spanish ... It adds to the fun when one of your students comes to the US as a teaching assistant and has similar conversations while trying to help students with homework problems.
I would kill this man, after the first question!

I have a LOT of empathy for your student - I'm positive this is EXACTLY what my ASL conversations "sound like" to my teachers or deaf acquaintances.
Q: I'm not positive about what you were hoping to elicit from picture #1...
They usually "ignore each other in favor of media consumption?"

It was funny but also upset the teachers a bit, they should work harder on that.
