That's crazy.. Nothings for free.. Ambulance drivers and medics have to be paid along with equipment needs to be replaced ambulances need to be refueled.. Some places charge a dispatch fee.. You should never say you won't call 911, there will be times when u need us.. And regardless of what I put on you tube we will come and be there for you and provide you with the utmost care and customer service.. Please don't ever refuse to call 911..
aviation fuel costs, wear and tear. then the trauma center, equipment used meds, trauma room and the staff,x-ray,C.T. scans being admitted to I.C.U. use of critical care nurses "equipment ie ventillator, cardiac monitaring use of the icu bed, meds, and not to mention a portion of all this money will be used to further educate current ems and personal staff and educate new ems personal and hospital staff ,and also the slack for non paying or uninsured patients, in life almost nothing is free.
@cdffirefighter Thanks for the long reply, it's more than I have gotten from AMR so far. I don't expect to get anything for free but I still think $1,800 for a 400 ft. car ride is a bit extreme, especially considering that I would have gotten the same service from a cab. Keep in mind, that is JUST for the ambulance company, the ER, x-ray lab, and meds were all billed separately.
By the way, I have a good friend who is also a firefighter/paramedic and I really respect what you do.
look at it this way.......when divided up you're paying for the cost of all of the equipment used by the ground ambulance, A.L.S. fee use of the medications, payroll for the crew insurance of the company and of the paramedic fuel costs wear and tear on the ambulance, then a fee for the use of a medical facility their treatment, supplies, meds and e.r. staff. then for the medivac, use of their services, flight time equipment meds, flight nurses and crew, faa, registration fees, insurance maintance..
by a medivac or a helicopter and say it's 25 to 30 miles to a trauma center the medivac will be about 15,000$ once you get to the trauma center they asses your injuries and treat you accordingly and move you to an intensive care unit floor of the trauma center and you stay two weeks lets say your looking about 25 to 30,000$ just for the I.C.U. stay , the trauma center er assesment will be about 3,000$ so in general an accident like this will run about 80 to 100,000$. But you have to look at it
or motor vehicle crash, you roll your car numerous times and are ejected out of the vehicle unconsious with head injuries along with other injuries, the equipment we will use on you, medications we will administer to you will be costly along with the transport say 5 miles to a hospitial will run about 5,000$ say you get to the hospital and it's determend you need to be transported to a trauma facility, the first hospital will charge about 10 to 12,000 for their care usually you will be transfered
well working as a firefighter/paramedic i also work for a privateized ambulance company, and the private sector makes up over 90 percent of the ambulance transport service in the u.s. there are also ambulances who are county and city owned and they also charge a fee, most runs are basic "non advanced life support" granted a basic transport will run about 900 to 1,000 now A.L.S. could cost up to 10,000 or more depending what your medical condition is for ex: say your involved in a M.V.A.......>
Don't know much about California except that my 200,000 home in Missouri might cost $600,000 or more in CA. With that being said, the ugly truth is each transport has a cost associated with it. It's a matter of math. Take the annual cost of operating the service and divide the number of tranports you're going to actualy get reimbursed for. The answer is the price to charge for every transport. Even here in the Midwest the cost per transport are in the area of $800.
@KevyNova I was just wondering, what was the song you were talking about, that the guy made about his guitar getting broken at an airport? I couldn't find it.
Last May I got a 12-mile ambulance ride, complete with being strapped to the body board, vital signs checks, etc, and it was $1,900 and change. I guess the charge is fairly standard and has nothing to do with the distance or service provided.
You should definitely write a song about it, would be pretty cool.
$1800, that doesn't even make sense. That's about four dollars for a foot. Doesn't even make any sense, they fucked something up, either on purpose or it was an accident.
You should just march in there and just ask what the hell happened.
They never want to talk about it over the phone. And usually, the people who answer the phones don't know anything about it.
California is a crowded state. You have high inflation there. Ambulances in your state transport lots of welfare bums who don't pay their ambulance bill. Those costs are passed along to you. You're paying for people who can't or won't pay.
