  • Lol u uninformed people the ev1 is pretty amazing especially at that time if it wasn't scraped we could have advanced it a lot more but oil companies probably paid the car producer to scrap this idea u can see that gm lies about this because they said no one wanted the car while people did and also they took the car from people who had it why not just leave it plus on too of that they scraped it !!!they said if was going to be recycled but it wasn't . Watch who killed the electric car

  • The problem with electric cars is that they build them to look like shit. Why can't they build them like sports cars.

  • @klb2000000 They can. Have you seen the Tesla?

  • @schuchnet No. I'm gonna check this right now.

  • 0:40 Led Zeppelin (:

  • Wanna see my Leaf?

  • omg...I remember this car back the days when I ;ived in Cali and they has charging station at those tree hugger super markets. It took us another 10 years to bring electric back again.

  • I believe GM killed the EV1 cause when california repealed the 0 emission rule, if they destroyed them all they could take a tax write for the billions they spent on the whole program. I was a cameraman on the funeral scene for "Who Killed the Electric Car"

  • In "Who Killed The Electric Car" a GM executive, ON CAMERA, plainly says that these cars are here today but they all went into the shredder when the leases were up; disgraceful.

  • Who cares if it's ugly, what everyone is doing to our environment is ugly. Have you seen oil mills? The pollution we are causing, and for what? So we can have attractive cars? Just like a teenager tanning, you're killing off what you have because of your vanity. I pity anyone selfish and dim minded enough to not accept these cars because of their appearance. If GM hadn't destroyed the EV1s, we would have more attractive and developed electrics by now.

  • Nice to see one of those babies escaped the crusher. That was an advanced car. Stupid Oil companies, lol if I was leasing one of those and GM wanted it back Id hide it somewhere in a storage garage and tell GM that it was stolen and that they can suck my left one! But very cool car for being elec.

  • TODAY WE WANT EV1 AGAIN - CLAUDE ITALY

  • Such an ugly ass car

  • @bigbradford69

for real? This was one nice car but being how you call it ugly, I'm guessing you won't be able ride it like you won't be able to ride a girl

  • @DrSurprise good one kid

  • EV1 LIIIIIVEEEES

  • If they had only developed the EV1 back then. GM would have been on top and in power, we'd probably have about 20%-30% electric vehicles on the road.

  • Hi everyone. I'm sure we all know what happened to the EV1. (Petroleum companies, money etc...) We have our own story about being pushed and pressured to a gas car and even being treated rudly by G.M. when insisting that we wanted an electric car.Now we have the power of social networking and I'm wondering if there is something we can do if we all pull together.I feel it is very important to do what we can for our environment and our children, and not whats good for our oil companies.

  • I didn't know Norm MacDonald did amateur YouTube video narrations.

  • The EV1 was NOT killed by the U.S. Government!! Get that in your Head!! That stuff is Balogniee. The EV1 was a first project car for testing and GM did not want any liability problems because the technology was still new. They are afraid of getting sued you idiots.

  • @heartlessvietboy

looks like someone works for GM

  • General Motor is a good company. Their building dependable cars right now.

  • @heartlessvietboy They are a bunch of mindless CEO's who care about profits and nothing else try putting bio deisel in your car fucker you know what will hapen it will fail PERMENANTLY yeah and it wasn't a coincidence there is a part that was PUT THERE so fuck you and your company that needs bail money fuck face. Oh and those aren't very reliable.

  • How did you manage to get one of these.. I thought they were all destroyed or sent to museums

  • The cesspit that is GM is saved(again) by the Government, under pressure from the oil-lobby who was deadly afraid Americans would start buying Japanese and European electric/hybrid cars.

Luckily, it is a lot harder nowadays to stem the influx from settled manufacturers (Nissan f.i.) with enough clout to foil any further sabotaging by the oil/GM cartel.

The best GM could do: The Volt..what a crock..

  • is that norm mcdonald holding the camera?

  • Oil is an important raw material for medicine and plastic. We should protect this raw material. The electric car is the only correct way!

  • I see that you have no idea where electricity comes from.

  • @moparmonster1965 Do you? So where does electricity come from? Mine comes from the 3 Honeywell WT6500 turbines and solar panels on the roof of my house. What about you?

  • And since your solar panels and turbines don't power a car, they're irrelevant to the point. If you use them to charge an electric car, however, more power to you but you're in the minority because on a large scale, it's not feasilble now, if ever.

At issue is the fact that, ultimately, electric cars pollute as much as gasoline powered cars do, and that's without considering the massive amount of fossil fuel it takes to manufacture the batteries that the electrical charge is stored in.

  • @normalais Of course I do, silly. It comes from burning fossil fuels that pollutes the same exact way that buring gasoline in a car's engine does. To be clear, I'm referring to the electricity that powers electric cars.

  • @moparmonster1965 No silly, I already told you where my electricity will come from for my electric car. And it sure as hell won't be fossill fuels.

  • @normalais I went back and couldn't even find the original comment that I responded to, but as I said last time, more power to you. That said, since you're in the extreme minority, China will make sure to pick up the slack and produce some really shitty cars that have exactly no emissions standards to fill the gap you've left.

  • @moparmonster1965 What minority dumbass? The oil age is coming to an end. By 2020 price of oil will be $300 a barrell. Everybody, including you, will crawl on their knees to buy electric cars.

  • @normalais The minority of people who are using alternative sources to power vehicles. Since that doesn't include some 99.9% of the world's driving population, yes, that puts you into a minority.

Electric cars may or may not be the future; since we can replicate fully synthetic oil, there's no reason why we can't do the same with a gasoline subtitute. But as for now, there are no electric cars that meet my family's needs, not to mention that they're underpowered, ugly, and feminine.

  • @moparmonster1965 I don't have an electric car yet. But the people who use alternative sources to power their vehicles will not be a minority for much longer. 5-10 years from now the world will look a lot different than today. Price of oil will only go up and price of alternative energy will only go down. After 2015 price of oil will skyrocket to the stratosphere. People will move to alternative energy in masses.

  • @normalais A bold prediction, indeed. Then again, scientists in 1955 were predicting flying cars by the year 2000, weren't they?

  • @moparmonster1965 Not bold at all. You have to live with your head up your ass not to think price of oil will skyrocket in the next decade. Summer 2008 with $145 a barrell was only a small preview.

  • @normalais I never said the price of oil wouldn't fluctuate, did I? My entire point is that people who drive hybrid cars have deceived themselves into thinking that they're somehow saving the planet and that when we run out of oil, they will be somehow immune.

And what happened after the summer of '08? The price of oil went...down, didn't it?

  • oh my god theres still on of those peices of shit running around it has nothing to do with our air we have no effect on that if u people could read u would no that buy the gas stop being a cheap ass god bless general motors corp.

  • Hello, I understand well that there is still a functional EV1? :-)

  • YEAH, I m so happy to see the EV1 again. Hide it, them useless f#$ks at GM. This is AWESOME

  • I would lose it if I happened to see this baby driving down the street to whatever this destination was. I would be running after that car in hopes of getting a closer look

  • What do you mean by "Reminded?" Is GM threatening them or something?

  • GM a bunch of cocksuckers

  • Where can I find an EV1 to buy? I want to put LiFePO4 batteries in it and get 400 miles per charge. I've heard rumors that the Volt will probably head down the same path as the EV1, leasing in only a couple of states, won't be very popular (as GM will perhaps say), and will be cancelled. It's so sad that oil ruins so many things, such as the gulf recently, the air, water, the ground, and this wonderful car that I'll never be able to drive. Do you consider the Volt an E-REV or series hybrid?

  • @MrTsolar Didn't you hear, EV1's were put on leases for a couple of year and GM has scraped perfectly working EV1's, now they're 5 left, 4 are in museums and displays ect....and only one left in the hole world that's fully functioning and owned privately. and to let you know GM has rolled the dice and payed the price they ma not make enough Volt's for the public and even though the Volt is also badged for Opel and Vauxhal but they're owned by GM.

  • Nissan, and Mitsubishi are both coming out with plug in electrics that run with lithium. Now there are motorcycle makers that are taking over the ev world. Brammo, Zero, Electric Motorsports just to name a few. You don't have to wait for the little 3 in Detroit to catch a clue. With a little research, if you have a garage and can turn a wrench, you can convert a vehicle yourself. Or there are companies that will do it for you.

  • "reminded" them to the effect that they better not do it again."

    FUCK YOU GM!!!!!!

GM is stupid, greedy, dumb ass MOFO's

They needed a bailout ? ... wonder why

  • efficient, silent, clean, 0 to 60 in 9 seconds, and it must have felt good knowing you could never had to stop at a gas station ever again

  • I wish they could re-release this sleek looking bullet of a car. It's WORLDS cooler than that ugly new Volt, and still looks brand-new! I bet its design could even run into the 2050's without the need to be changed!

  • Aaaaannnndddd that's why GM went bankrupt. hahahahaha!

  • @youloser21 They've slept all the time and Tesla Motors made the pace. STRIKE

  • Who ever owns that EV1 should let some engineers reverse engineer the car and post the plans online for every person to download. OPEN SOURCE is the best way to thwart GM and big oil.

  • @kaduisaui GM own's the patents to the car, im sure they would seek prosecution if that was to be done. Then again if i could salvage one... id do it,

If they were to lay a finger in my pie... i could be just a much of a prick back.

In the U.S.A there is a piece of paper that says "we the people"

"Not we the motor company's, oil company's", Now take a look at the oil spill in the gulf! Right now we ruining the water, Eco system+

THIS IS NOT ABOUT MAKING MONEY!!!!!!! Take part in the revolution

  • Why don't you keep that locked up until gm has no more control over it, and contact a car builder and designers and build it again after you completely map out the blueprints.

  • Someone report this shit to GM before this cancer spreads to the rest of the country. We don't want anyone to get any ideas know. Gas guzzlers only!

  • Does GM still retain any ownership of this unit? how can they contact u and stop u from using something they have no ownership over? and how was it reactivated how did GM deactivate them?

  • @hod05 Look for "Who killed the electric car" to get the whole story.

  • The best thing to keep this EV1 running would be to ship it out to Europe where it can presumably run free from GM's legal clutches in the US. Presumably GM didn't try to impose a worldwide ban?

  • "Nobody wants this car" LOL

  • if teh start making more attractive looking EV's maybe more people would buy them. The Tesla Sedan is impressive looking but most of the design aspects are borrowed from other cars. It needs to be revolutionary or atleast unusual.

  • Who owns that EV1?

  • Must be a pain in the ass if you have to replace a rear end spare.

  • I wanna the future now. I wanna this real EP fantastic car. GM, MAKE EV1 AGAIN.

  • nissan got some similar lookin to this, the leaf

  • @TheAveryEdwards

Only problem was that GM reclaimed and destroyed almost every one of the EV1s.

If they didn't, chances are that GM would probably be no.1 in the electric car industry right now.

  • probably, if they fix dat rear wheel thing, really that isn't attractive, the car looks plain, idk, i just can't find one thing on this car that i like, the leaf, however, looks good, gm wasn't at it's all time high in the year they made this, toyota did a good job, cause they are known for having good cars, the chevy volt is a vast improvement, i wouldn't buy it, but i like it, this will be a battle between chevy and nissan, i can see the winner already. N*S*A*-that's my opinion

  • @TheAveryEdwards: This car corporates a design as it should be and as it was described by Sullivan: "Form follows function".

  • The Ev1 one was from 10 years ago, we should get over it.

Right, well i will NEVER buy a GM as long as I live, you get over that GM. ;-)

  • Honestly? Given the state of affairs for GM, I don't really think they have any room to give you guys any guff. They're the ones that are on the brink of financial extinction. Another thing.. until the Volt is a true EV like EV-1, I'll never buy one. GM needs to take a long hard look in the mirror.

  • Come now, they won't do that because they don't care. They've lied over and over again and produced garbage all the while..

  • now i understand why GM stopped this project

this car is so fucking ugly

the front is oke ( looks a little bit like a Geo Storm)

but the back is so stupid designed

  • It's really too bad that GM, the oil industri and the other big players don't want ordinary people to choose for them selves. I'm sure that there are those who wants to continue driving a petrol / diesel car, but I wouldn't mind having an electric car at all. It's much better for our planet and I don't have to spend a small fortune on petrol and spare parts. These greedy big shots sacrifice our planet for their own personal gain.

  • @StuGFreak57 As sad as it is... if you wiggle enough money in front of someone's face most greedy bastards will sacrifice even their family and future for that damn cash... I totally agree with you tho, i would love to have an electric car, i know there's a man in ontario that managed to stash one away before they were all crushed, now he drives it all over and nobody seems to bother him... guess we should have tried harder to hide them away :D

  • It looks like GM made it in purpose to make this car really but really ugly...i mean come on...people's first impression is the look of the car how can they not know that?I really think they wanted this car to disappear from the market and try to kill the idea of the electric car...but to bad for them the blowback of depending on oil is coming sooner or later.

And how come the people who did the Tesla Roadster had a beautiful design.

  • @EyFmS The Tesla roadster is just a Lotus Elise, but less attractive.

  • Actually, GM "donated" disabled, gutted copies to various universities, in this case, WWU; WWU had to agree to certain conditions GM required, among them, that it NEVER be restored to full all-electric mode. GM apparently contacted WWU and now they can't show it or GM would confiscate it (unless they put in a gas engine).

  • I did not remeber ev1 was that ugly...

  • I can't believe everyone turned thier ev-1s back in...

Like they could have said it was "stolen".

Spine less drones who caved in. and gave them back.

At least this man has his honor.

FOR SHAME, ALL OF YOU WHO GAVE BACK YOUR EV-1s. FOR SHAME!

  • I know..... GM actually fucked everyone off and themselves in the process.

  • Actually, this belongs to WWU, and they caved in, too. GM has a legion of lawyers, and was threatening fomer lessees with unlimited damages, implicitly the threat of jail.

  • the problem with that car is that the design sucks really hard. It was crap back in 2000, and now just worst. Change the design and will be your first client :).

Who knows, maybe you guys will be next Ford :). Just play it smart. Get a designer to make a new shell, get a sponsor to make a prototype, and boom. The business will go on his own. Wish you luck and steel balls :)

  • @ eXWoLL

What do you mean that the design sucked? It is one of the most aerodynamic cars of all time!

  • that's the problem. Aerodynamic cars are great in racing , etc. But not in everyday life. This design was too far from the idea that people have about a "nice car". It is just too different from the car of they friends. And social "conditioning" make here a great pressure at the time of making the decision "to buy or not to buy".

Ppl need a car that is just like any other (in terms of looking) or better, but that is powered by green technology.

  • The size, shape and aerodynamics were at the heart of the car. People don't seem to realize the critical factor that weight and aerodynamics play in a battery only car, at least until the batteries get better (and they are). The battery pack is taxed to the absolute limits of design to provide what most buyers see as usable range and performance, and it is a tribute to the designers to come up with such a "real world" package given that limitation (at least as nice as msot Geo Metros or Storms

  • The designers of EV1 didtn take that in count, and many ppl just got a little scared with it when gm give them the car :).

If it had the design of a Mini maybe there would be some success, but the actual was rlly awful.

IMHO the fact that ppl could laugh of the owners, had a great impact here.

  • @crazyfooInc: Tatra already made aerodynamic designs in the late thirties and managed to make them very stylish as well. SAAB did something similair but slightly less aerodynamic in the late fourties. The EV1 fits in right in between the Audi A2 and Toyota Prius in terms of design even though you can tell they had a look at the SAAB designs.

  • hahaha i love the design, its new, exciting and very disapointing looking. Ive only seen one of those back in '01 on my first trip to los angeles. I love this car.

  • This is in the heart of L.A.'s "urban atmosphere" and the air is bad, sorry

  • @liveoilfree an ev1 just sold on ebay for $21,000. It was converted to a gasoline engine LOL

  • @TehSalaminizer wtf man show some respect towards Doug

  • I'd love to see them take that car into GM to get it serviced. But then again, there is nothing to service... No oil or anything

  • GM destroyed so many of them, I heard the people that leased them wanted to buy them. GM ignored them.

  • GodDAMN but I get so furious whenever I think about how GM crushed almost their entire fleet of post-3-yr-leased EV-1s. Esp. since they came begging to Washington, cap in hand, looking for a bailout early this year. F'kin BASTARDS. For several years, the US Gov. was subsidizing 6000 lb+ SUV's like the gas-guzzling Hummer for 10K. WHY couldn't they do the same with electric cars??? One of GM's lame-ass excuses is they didn't have a developed parts production system to keep 3 yr old EV-1s running!

  • Yeah bitch! ...and GM's broke, fat lot of good crushing EV's did 4 them.

  • this is your karma gm , for me i call it " dive justice" , nice to see you on bank rupt. yo want a watting list, i want in , that car is a dream , I WANT ONE

  • i want the same car !

that suck they are now struck in museums. shame on GM who killed the Electric car. imagine. maybe today any cars used Electricity (except Huge Cargo Vans....) this is a real shame to drive an Oil car. i can't unserstand why does Peoples buy an GM oil Car when they destroyed the future...

Chevrolet Volt ? Eat my buns, that car were perfect. they only needed to work for Upping Performances.

  • Serves GM right going under after pulling this crap. They wouldn't be able to make these cars fast enough to keep up with demand in todays economy if they still made them!!

  • It's such a shame that the few remaining EV1s are trapped in museums (one of which I was lucky enough to see; very eerie), so it's great to see this auto rebellion with it back on the streets! The head honchos at GM are such idiots for nixing this concept. I have family ties to GM, but I still don't agree with them. If they would have kept EV1s on the road, they would have been ahead of the electric car movement and might not be in the absolutely catastrophic place that they are at now.

  • It's even worse than that; GM tried to suppress NiMH batteries, and, when they failed to do so, handed over control to Chevron which then sued Toyota -- which then stopped making EVs. Toyota can only use NiMH for cars that cannot plug in.

  • its very easy to convert a toyota prius hybrid to a plug in vehicle, i guarantee third party developers will apear to provide that modification, and that will be the end of oils reign.

  • i wud rather convert a prius into a track car............. stick a v8 in it!

  • Bah!, teenager, what do you know about real budget sir, you cant afford a prius nor a v8. Stay with your xbox where you can stick whatever you want to your "virtual" cars

  • I bet you little sir, 10 years more and there wont be more gasoline cars!, instead of wasting your money on shitty experiments save your money and buy a tesla!, gasoline cars had their time, very long time, now its time for something cheaper, cleaner and quitter, we are a lot of people in the world, lets make less noise and less polution sir

  • Man, ive worked for bmw, ford motor company, for john deere and Land Rover, i have driven from a ford fiesta passing through all kind of mustangs (even old ones!, a shelby and a saleem) to a 410d front loader, dont talk to me about gasoline and petrol, ill teach you!, but im not a teenager anymore, i have real family, real budget and a real concern of what kind of world im leaving my children in, and believe me, an oil tirany world would be never for good.

  • Yep buddy, i know, its not about being green like an alien but the real thing is that we are more than 3 thousand millions in this small planet and it seems that we are running out dead dinosaur soup (aka, oil!), besides, enjoy your gas car until you can, i love muscle cars too as much as i used to love tobacco, but i dont smoke anymore. Good luck son!

  • Until you see real changes ?

    Damn OPEN YOUR EYES !

Brain washed into being ''gren'' ?

We just try to SAVE THE PLANET

But well, if you don't want to change,

Don't change, you'll end up dying anyways.... But maybe it will be earlier thant it should ...

  • @stiggywiggywoo Or you could try to learn how to spell Weber first...

  • @liveoilfree Its fine, we have Lithium Ion batteries now. lol. What assholes.

  • Why are these cars so f******g ugly!!!! GM did it on purpose, so that, even if they where foced to produce it by the californian government back then, nobody would have bought it... and they could continue to sello hummer-like polluting monsters... suckers!

  • Actually, the EV1 was beautiful -- now, we see MANY new cars that emulate the EV1, heartbreakingly recalling our lost cars. But more importantly, NO ONE could buy them, because GM never offered it for sale, instead, jailed would-be customers.

  • This was such a good looking and ground braking car. Such a shame. GM had all that technology, and then killed it off. GM could have taking over the world with electric cars. And now it's over with them. This is an interesting car tought. I wish i could drive it one day.

  • Damn straight. GM should have been allowed to fail instead of bailing them out. What they did with sabotaging the wildly-successful & popular EV-1 was criminal, a HUGE boondoggle that eventually the taxpayer got stuck for. IF backyard mechanics can convert gas-cars to electric, cost-effectively, then WHY can't the big 3? Sheer inertia, hostility from the oil industry, idioticly poor 'leadership', lack of imagination & lack of integrity. They've gotton lazy & afraid of innovation. FAIL!!!!

  • I think it's a cool car.. If you look at past automobile ( futuristic ) designes.. They emutate a small teardrop look. These cars Slip through the air at a level you won't find on 95% of vehicals today. They are extreemly low coeficent of drag and that was done to help them travel 150 miles on a charge.. Stick your air out a window of a moving car and Feel the drag your arm makes.. Imagine how much force the entire car is overcoming to move through the thick fluid we call air.

  • yup, and somehow America is the best country in the world. I hope the EV1 haunts GM into bankruptcy.

  • @guitarguy97 Well, you're dream came true.

  • When we buy gas, we're giving a big portion of that money to foreign countries. We're also paying taxes that our country uses for various things. The big thing is that with electric more of our money would stay in our country. That would provide jobs and also help to clean up the country's air. Think about it. A huge portion of the money we'd spend on electrics would stay in america - domestic fuel.

  • very true.

just under 70% of our gas comes from Foreign countries.

Someone could argue that while using electric cars were still burning coal.

however, if we were to use other resources such as wind, hydro(dams), etc. we could clean up our country.

    Both environmentally and economically.

  • Electric transportation definitely the future.

Hmmmz... and what about the batteries?

Do you know where most batteries are produced?

    And solar panels?

I think it should be possible to develop a small optimized and efficient ICE motor to charge the batteries of an electric car for longer distances (>250 miles or so). Basicly batteries are charged at home, but when they run low on a trip, the ICE motor keeps the car driving.

  • Actually, the batteries, like lead-acid, are completely recyclable. And the solar panels can be made in US, they are (Evergreen and Sharp); nothing stopping us except inertia and idiocy.

  • Chevey had this car...that what I heard can go 100mph on electric and they want a bailout...

    UNBELIEVABLE...

I have no words to how F**king stupid this car company is for not releasing this...

  • I want one of these, fuck OPEC!

  • Love it love it love it! Great to see it up and running!

  • The big oil machine would rather have Chevy sink then release their strangle hold.

P.S. CALIFORNIA GOT THEIR EPA WAIVER. CALIFORNIA CAN NOW REGULATE THEIR OWN EMISSIONS WOOOHOOO!!! :-)

  • I drive a 99 chevy metro.

45mpg average, 50mpg highway. roughly $10,000 brand new.

I'd still much prefer an EV-1

why they wont bring them back...

nothing breaks until 300,000 miles and the profits are small.

then there's all the money big oil would lose. And gasoline tax money.

it's more profitable to run a cartel then to listen to the market.

all Chevy has to do to survive and dominate the market is to bring either car back, or put out something similar.

  • I only wish that GM's cartel partners Chevron and Standard oil, would share GM's fate. .

    DOWN WITH THE MACHINE!!!

  • take it to the detroit auto show next time to remind gm they probably forgot the EV-1 and what could have been.

  • I understand GM is about to seek chapter 9 backruptcy protection. How could you mismanage a company so badly, after all, if your going broke or very close to it, why not take a gamble and re-release the EV1 with lithium ion phosphate batteries and the latest specs. What's the harm???

  • To hell with LiON of any chemistry...

Our 2000 Ford Ranger EV NiMH is IT...

NiMH...there is a reason Toyota is not going LiON in the Prius!

  • Man... I would of loved to buy one of these things if GM hadn't committed genocide and whipped them all out except for a few mules.

I use to thing this thing was just another garbage car till I watched "Who Killed The Electric Car" and educated myself. This poor car was almost like the fall guy, and it honestly makes me sad when I think of what GM had done and is now asking for hand outs from the people its betrayed.

  • There's no suprise that GM doesn't give a shit for the ev1s. I mean cmon. Their chairman and ceo Rick Wagoner said,"It's over 10 years ago. Get over it." What bastards they are. >:(

  • Now he is taking his CASH and relaxing on a beach...while we all wonder why he isn't in JAIL!

  • Yes it's 10 years old get over it and produce another Oil Free Car!

  • Well, if we try to produce another oil free car, the old fart bags will complain that it's a threat to them and will get rid of it, again. Besides, we must listen to the "honorable" bush for he had told us that a threat to America is the electric car. He'd rather go full blown out oil than go electric because he went with the hybrid. What a douche.

  • 10 years old with 100 or so mile range. i'm pretty sure after 10 years they can make an electric car go at least 500 miles. fkn car and oil companies and their power trips

  • 10 years lost of investigation, 10 priceless years and for what, the oil companies.. i am not American, well i am :) but not from the United States of America, but i care about the U.S.A its where im living and its my home now. Sadly people who dont love their country do whatever they can to avoid progress for people. Money is all they care about, like president Bu... and i do care for this country like if were my hometown

  • LOL @ GM dying! If you twits had marketed this correctly, (pronounced "AT ALL") we would all have one for our daily commutes, and the larger V6/V8 cars for our longer trips. Talk about cutting your nose off despite your face.

I hope you go broke you greedy b@stards. I'll probably just convert my old 2 door '71 Torana to an electric beast.

  • YEAH! SUCK IT GM! if you guys had sold this car, then we wouldn't have to bail your ass out now.

  • man GM sucks for killing something so good so do the oil companies they suck too! hey liveoilfree hav ya heard about the fisker karma and if you have you got any thoughts on it??

  • The Fisker is a big disappointment; instead of being a serial hybrid, it is a gas car that relies on occasional boost from an electric motor. Tesla is good, Fisker is bad.

  • oo ic now on wiki i dint read the part where owners of the car still needed fuel

  • i still don't understand why some car company doesn't just put out a serial hybrid, such as the VOLT...guess there's some sort of agreement

  • OMG! If I ever come to California, me and you will have to meet and hang out so I can finally see a Rav4 EV, and a GM EV1!

  • Continuation of previous comment~

I am 18 and live in Minnesota by the way.

In this video I saw some protests in front of the GM gates about someone making a 1.9 million dollar offer to get the cars back.

Anyways, if I could have been part of these protests I would have in a heart beat. We need to advance our transportation method in a bad way, that was our chance.

Emotion doesn't help, but I'm mad.

  • I was unaware of such advances like the EV1, until yesterday when my Teacher showed a video about electric cars, mostly about the EV1, a little about the Rav 4 EV and the Ford Ranger EV.

To be quite honest I never really thought much about electric cars, I knew the cons far before the pros.

But seeing how the big 3, and others, covered up this advance in cars really makes me quite angry.

Think about it, if they stuck to it we could quite possibly be making 300+ mile trips in electric cars.

  • I could use a hybrid of even a low range electric car 5 days out of the week, maybe all week, the gas car could start becoming a just for fun kinda thing, and imagine if fuel demands were down, then we maybe able to run our gas cars cheaply, because i will never give up my 5.0 mustang, but even right now i have to admit i havent driven it in 2 weeks

  • I want a electric car, and i want to keep my gas car too, is there anything wrong with that?

  • No problem, of course. In California, most families have one car per person; while that may be stupid, it makes sense to have a commuter car for getting around and, if you like long distance trips, a gas car or serial hybrid.

  • don't get me wrong, i'm all for electric cars, i want one myself, i care for the air, and i want to save money while cleaning the air...but man, the ev1 really is an ugly car. well, the front looks alright, but the back looks dumb... but its not as bad as those stupid 3 wheeled electric cars

  • ahh bless, the EV1 does look like a car from its era, not too sure on the back end of it though, but thats personal taste.

the GM reasoning and the common concept is that as long as the americans pay 1/4 the european costs for gas then its shleved.. OK seeing sence, if GM want to not go into liquidation why not use the EV1, which they claim as a loss and rebuild them shipping them out to europe? money is here and the timing is right!!

  • I think the electric car revolution will take place quietly in garages across the country. People will simply take the drive train out of their cars and insert the electric drive train and control systems. Its going to be a black-market-cottage-industry and civil disobedience that delivers the electric car.

  • After gross corruption and mismanagement they now want a bailout from the taxpayer they betrayed...

  • Garbage Management =GM put its bet on the suv

now look where they are now General Morons=GM....

they said there is no demand for the Ev-1

i say there is no demand for the HUMMER last year 2008 and will there be any demand in 2009 either

  • Just watched "Who Killed the Electric Car." It's an interesting story. I think recent history has shown just how greedy, stupid, and backward GM truly is.

  • Maybe, this car is sole EV1. Other ones got crushed.

  • There are about 40 that were gutted, wires torn out, motor/controller taken out by the roots, battery pack gone, it took a LOT to restore this! EVBones, GM experts, spent a week volunteer time on it -- now it can't be shown or driven.

  • when U go into an auto dealership, they're not looking for your flag, or how blindly 'patriotic' U are to the point of buying an inferior product, just because it's made in the USA. within days of junking the EV1, GM upped its production of Hummers. they don't care about us; why care about them? if the best car on the road is Japanese, buy it!! your flag won't take you to your destination. if American automakers want our business, they should build better cars!

  • NO AMERICAN AUTOMAKER should be bailed out...

They had what it took to be the dominant player in Hybrid and Electric cars nowadays, but to the contrary, they slashed great projects like the EV1....

    RIDICULOUS!!!

  • Unfotunately, the line UAW workers are suffering for the sins of Wagoner and Klutz; the former EV1 assemblers are laid off, the plant is empty, according to GM insiders.

  • best bit is when they killed this off they sold the patent rights for the batterys to texaco, who are now chevron who are making a ton of money off the batteries for the prius

  • Unbelievably, GM once owned control of the patents for Toyota's Prius!! And for all other successful EVs or hybrids, even those that can't plug in. Chevron claims to be losing money on "cobasys", Chevron-Ovonics BAttery SYStems.

  • SCREW GM. i would keep driving it - what are they going to do, come steal it in the middle of the night?

  • fujifrontier, I wouldn't put it passed them.

  • no american automaker should be bailed out!!

    They destroyed the electric car!!
