So if you eat low carb and no junk food.....it's ok to consume more than 300mg of cholesterol a day with no ill effects? The Mayo clinic says to keep it under 300 per day
I tried to RAISE my otherwise normal(158-160) cholesterol level. over last year I consumed high fat diet including saturated animal fat, that means, lots of sour cream, butter, whole milk, hamburgers, red meat, whole eggs. I followed the diet now for exactly a year, and a few days ago had my lipid panel done. I failed. My cholesterol is virtually the same at 154. My LDL got lower 98 from 108 a year ago. My HDL("good chol.") was always low 43 versus 39 last year. This was uncontrolled study.
Hi! Have you considered intellectus 424 diet (do a google search)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my cousin lost crazy amounts of weight with it.
@Esoparagon Absolutely right - A high carbohydrate diet gave me a stroke, heart disease and cancer. I stopped the carbs. drank a bottle of cod liver oil everyday and took high doses of Algae. I am cancer free, have no heart disease and my brain is 100% recovered - PROOF!!
Gary Taubes changed my life with his 2002 article, "What if Its All Been a Big Fat Lie". I lost 60 pounds easily, my cholesterol has always been great - stayed around the 150s the entire time and I enjoyed it and felt great.
Lesson -- we are all different and have to pay attention to what works and doesn't work for us despite the conventional wisdom. I am grateful to Taubes for taking the time to lay out the science so that those who are willing to listen and learn can save their own lives
I’m very worried about his theories. I went on this low carb, high fat diets that he preaches ( i ate lots of cheese) and now my cholesterol is high for the first time ever........
@cyprusxxx Have you always know what your cholesterol values have been at? I have heard its normal it goes up in the beginning, its quite a shock for a body used to a lot of carbs.
Also do some research on what cholesterol is and what its purpose it has in your body. Just search the cholesterol lie here on you tube.
@Anwell100 it isnt a health problem? but my docter said that fat will fill in my arteries and i will get a heart attack when i get older, im 21. are u sayin he is wrong?
@cyprusxxx it could be that you werent very fat to begin with. Usually people who are fat excel on a low carb diet. If you want check out metabolic typing its a pretty cool book
@cyprusxxx you have to know that cheese has carbs, it depends also on what kind of cheese, if you where eating cottage cheese it has about 4 grams of carbs per serving. Dr atkins said only to consume 3 - 4 onces of cheese and no more. Also your bad cholesterol might have gone up but that don't mean anything if your good cholesterol also went up.
Thank-you Gary Taubes... after reading gcbc I have finally started to lose weight the last two weeks after slowling putting weight the whole year. THANK-YOU! the best if I feel i now have the facts to defend myself when people start attacking my low carb approach
@lazur1 You are absolutely correct. As long as we are preoccupied by trivial nonsense, the truth about health, or ANYTHING ELSE, will stay obscure to the masses, even though it is readily accessible. And the tragedy of it all is that this truth is more accessible to this generation than any generation prior to it, because of the Internet. Unfortunately, this tool is used to indulge in juvenile nonsense, more than it is used to learn information that can free us from the maladies that afflict us.

@cyprusxxx And if high cholesterol mattered that would be something to be concerned about.
Worrying is dangerous enough it itself, raising your cortisol and adding unneccessary stress to your body.
