An automatic has a torque converter, R tronic transmissions don't have a torque converter. It has a hydraulically operated clutch...opposed to having a third peddle. It is a manual car at the end of the day.
There seems to be an argument here so I'll clear things up. Automatic is when the car does all the changing for you. Manual is when you have to change gears yourself, it doesn't matter how you change them (either with flappy paddels or a stick shift), it's still a manual. The car in this video is an automatic.
r-tronic is not a dual clutch btw. it IS in fact a automated MANUAL transmission and not a tip/auto. the r-tronic is similar to lamboc ggear and ferraris f1 trans. oh and you lil boys squaking and pissing in the comments...good god grow up!
ur dumb as fuck if u think its auto, its called R-Tronic and its an 11 grand upgrade transmission from 6 speed, the 6 speed 0-60 is 4.6 and the r tronic is 4.1, a human cant possibly shift as fast as r tronic because its dual clutch and run by computers, my dad has an 09 r8 r tronic with stasis exhaust and chip, the owner of southgate audi in edmonton has the same upgrades but a 6 speed, him and my dad r buddys so they race and my dad wins every time, r tronic is bettter

@tadhgbrosnan it isn't all the same. the foundation and principles a true automatic, dual clutch or automated manual are based on and designed from are completely different. if you want to be ignorant and say that not having a clutch pedal means it's an "automatic", then go ahead.
