Actually, it's not every 7 years. Most of your brain cells stay with you your entire life. I get the idea though. Connections being rearranged is still a change.
...
I'm still really tripped out by this. I'm taking an introductory philosophy class and I actually just read what you're talking about. I DON'T KNOW WHO I AM ANYMORE!
I'm glad you're making a video about this! As a matter of fact, for the last couple of years I've been promoting the reductionist approach to consciousness (like Parfit). The reason is, there are consequences, believe it or not... the must immediate one is that you can suddenly understand that what you though was 'the future you' is actually as connected to you as you are to other people. In this way, both altruism and a lack of fear of death can easily arise.
How do you get from the bundle theory to the claim that you do not exist? Why couldn't one reason as follows: A bundle of experiences exists. I am this bundle, therefore I exist?
That seems very different from the point at hand...or at least I would have chosen to do something else with my self having that realization. You sound almost as though you are a Skitzoid.
What's interesting, like you said, is that our old self dies every moment and is reborn the next. Our mind and body are in constant flux, there is no self.
I've gone back in time to see who Tina was during this video and the next time I see you, you'll be different! I've officially time traveled. :o
It's (Par-fit), not (par-fay) like the mcdonalds french(ish) style yogurt.
