He knew his end was close but he kept singing and filled his fans with hope before revealing that he had been battling an unknown illness for over a year before being diagnosed with lung cancer...

It's a bit of a pun I guess. In counting you usually go "One, Two, Three, Go!", but in japanese "Ichi Ni San" means "One, two Three" and then Go means "Five", so he did a pun.

Sorry to disagree but "5" in japenes its actually written "Gou" so he is right in the writting form but he did a pun in the pronouncing form.
