When Fleischer moved from New York City to Miami, FL, the sappiness of Popeye clearly escalated to be imitative of Disney; WW2 made Popeye a lot "slicker" more in the mode of Warner Bros. cartoons and I actually view this as a big improvement.
Paramount fired the Fleischer bros. in the middle of 1942 but there were still enough cartoons in "the pipeline" that kept up this new-found energy and revitalization; I love this stuff!
Now, on to the cartoon itself. I found it humorous. Then again, however, I am looking at it knowing the social and historical context of the time that it was made and not trying to impress our modern social beliefs on it. Japan really did deserve being bombed twice. God got them back for pearl harbor with a surprise tsunami of his own. Japan did start it when they first invaded our beautiful country and then bomb our U.S ships and kill many of our Naval men. If a trade partner that offers you a very good deal breaks trade relations with you, you're not going to take it kindly. Especially if you think you're entitled to be the dominant power in the pacific, and especially if you need as many resources at minimum cost possible to achieve that.

Watching this reminds me how I used to love my grandpa's old cartoons. They had teeth.
The one thing that people don't understand was that during the second great war, propaganda was like this because we needed not only soldiers, but materials like metal (thus, comparing our manufacturing to Japan's).
Regardless, its still enjoyable cartoon, despite being racist by today's PC society. Maybe its because I am an art nerd, but the animation style rivals today's cartoons.

I could say that what you've said is not 100% accurate. While I agree that some Americans behave like the US is the top of the world, not every one behaves in that manner.
And if you've lived in Japan for a time, you'd see that the country is not AS impressive as you seem to think.
There is still a bit of racism (although fading out abit with the younger generations), unwillingness of many younger people to hold a steady job,social welfare etc

It was NEVER banned in the USA. !st Amendment wouldn't allow that. TV Stations did opt not to play them, but they weren't played at kid's movies at the theater when they were originally shown

@haitipi lol i know. i saw this south korean cartoon, which was just one long, brainwashing, commercial on how the rest of the world is evil. The Koreans were cute fluffy animals living in a paradise (with guns and a huge ass army-_-) and Americans were evil badass wolves who flew in space crafts, with laser guns, and all kinds of crazy mess that'll make you wonder if cocaine was involved in the making. What will the chinese be in that cartoon? Giant tigers with chainsaw guns? XD
