  • Congratulations! A great assembly, and your desktop is fairly complete.

You have a great professional and technical teaching.

    I think you're a professor of electronics.

  • well, if u have AM station within range of 10 km u can built radio on 1 germanium diode and high impedance headphones.. but u must connect long wire anrtena as long as better (10m min) and ground to other side. Diode is connected paralell to headphones. My local AM station had 30kW TX and it work very good but of course not loud.

  • Atractive radio. BTW, what camera did you use to video this?

  • the 555 does fuck all

  • I cannot understand why the fuck people push dislike button in video like this...

  • Fantastic mate ... well done ... I miss my work bench ... I need to remedy that ;) ...

... and to Mr. Anti-intellectual ... for someone who knows everything ... you know sod all ...

  • China is walking all over us. Are you kidding man. Jesus Christ in a bird basket. I can buy a raido for a quarter the cost it took you to make that hunk of junk. Get back to flipping my burgers ,

  • @2012goingNutz

You can buy it. But you don't understand it! Weiste was ich mein?

  • @2012goingNutz: Sorry, Mr. Anti-intellectual,but this lad is typical of the sort of folks that make the technology that folks like you demand be cheap. And that is why the jobs of folks all over the developed world have been outsourced to China. Maybe, if you and others like you, voted for folks with more than a political agenda we would not be where we are. This kid, China and everyone else you blame for our problems are not the real source of our problems. Look in the mirror.

  • @2012goingNutz I don't get people like you.

Do you think this was constructed as some alternative to buying a radio? It's clearly done for a hobby... not even a hobby really in this case as it's an entry to a competition about 555 timers.

What you have said is like telling using Usain Bolt "Flip my burger because I can ride a bike faster than you can run".

I'm not sure of you get it and are thus are a troll... Or you are so stupid as to think he built that sole purpose to listen to AM radio.

  • Have you put your 'scope on the audio output from the IC?

I wondered what sort of signal level difference you'd get with a bipolar 555timer & what value of bias pot is necessary then.?

Is the coil wound on a wood dowel, or is there a ferrite rod?

It seems unusual that there is so many turns of wire and a low value tuning capacitor.

To tune the AM band you usually have approx 50 turns of wire on a ferrite rod with a variable capacitor of 300-500pf.

Maybe then feed the audio to a LM386 IC?

  • that's a beautifull radio. you did a god job man

  • i like the ic in the middle

  • Nice radio !

  • hi nice

can you display the radio's circuit diagram

  • AWESOME I HOPE U WIN!

  • nice

  • that little substitution effect in the beginning freaked me out the first time...clever!

  • i like it

    it's verry nice

  • So very cool.

  • Pure awesomeness!

  • what capacitor will i need to pick up 49.960 Mhz? as i made a very simple crystal transmitter @49.960Mhz

  • Is there a circuit diagram avilable?

  • I like the EF Johnsson cap and the Phthalate standoffs. Very old-school.

  • This video makes me feel all cozy like when mommy makes me chocolate milk right before bed time. You should be careful with your next video because this one is bordering on pornographic.

  • cool

  • That is AWESOME!!

  • Please make some web page about details!

  • sweet!!

  • Great construction!

  • Very cool hack! Nice physical construction too.

  • Neat
