How long did it take for you to get snowball to sit on your arm? and also how do you tell if it's a lesser or greater or whatever kind of sulphur crested?
@joker4reality Although he enjoys dancing with me, he dances on his own. If you look at his other videos, there is no way I can do the moves that he does...I'd end up hurting myself if I did.
Irene, your Snowball is just adorable and precious. But wanted to point out a couple of things.....You forgot to mention that COCKATOOS are Australian. and secondly, its not CAKATOO, its Cockatoo!! its the american accent but being on such a big show being watched by millions, one must use the correct name and pronunciation!!
@DInfinity I didn't forget to mention that cockatoos are from Australia. I was told to answer Dave's questions and nothing more. Also...I'm not sure what you mean by Cakatoo? I don't see anything in print with that incorrect spelling. I am fully aware that Snowball is a cockatoo. I'm a bit confused by your comment.
@Neithie Yes, I think he/she is talking about pronunciation also, but it's a very odd comment to make. Even within the United States, we have several dialects but no one criticizes the other for a slightly different pronunciation.
He did great, considering the interference from the audience. Too bad they couldn't have understood that he would have done a lot more if they had been quiet.
David Letterman is an ass. Can't stand his show. He makes it out like the bird mean because of his own incompetance, wildly gesturing toward the bird in strange surroundings. Moron should have told the audience to hold applause if he was only going to let the bird dance for 10 seconds.
Well, hopefully you got some decent money from your appearance on the show to spoil Snowball a bit. :)
@TheAliakorayem Snowball is definitely NOT shy. He loves to have an audience. However, it is a distraction for him when people applaud or laugh in the middle of dancing. And sometimes he stops dancing just to look around and see if everyone is watching him...then he goes back to dancing. LOL
@17CrazierThanUWannaB You can only trademark goods and services associated with a name. For instance, we may trademark plush toys under the Snowball trademark while no one else can. However, someone else can come along and trademark ski clothing under the Snowball trademark. As long as the goods or services do not overlap or infringe on another existing trademark.
@Ibhenriksen Yes, we did need to go through a rehearsal because we had to do a sound level and make sure that the chair that Snowball was dancing on wasn't made of slippery material.

Heck, everyone gets stage fright at first. Especially in front of a live audience.
Why not get a little boom box, take him out now and then to, say, a park for instance, set him up on the back of a park bench (or whatever), turn on the music, and let him get used to those sudden bursts of laughter and applause when he starts dancing.
Then, next time he hits the big-time...he'll be a seasoned public performer. :-)

poor snowball he wanted 2 dance but that bloke kept scareing him, snowball is a sweetie, i love the way he was dancnin wen u were walkin off bless him,,,, by the way wot does it mean wen the crest stands up??
I hate david letterman's show, it always sounds like he doesn't care about what's going on and like he just wants them to get off the show already, and he's not funny at all. Now Craig Fergusson, there's a good late night host
@RICbass78 i LOVE Dave. it's that sort of humor that makes me laugh the most. but craig is pretty awesome too :) Dave just tells it like it is. but he obviously loves his job or he wouldn't still be doing it.
Question, what do you mean by going through adolesence. I have a two year old rose breasted cockatoo. When is adolesence and what do they do, they dont turn on you do they.8i
Birds go through adolescence at different ages. The smaller conures may go through adolescence around 3 or so years of age, whereas an African Grey may go through adolescence around the age of 5 or so (these ages are approximations). Hormones kick in as they go through adolescence and their personalities begin to change. They become more selective as to who they want to be with and may even become aggressive with those that they don't want a relationship with.
Letterman was scared of Snowball it showed he doesn't know Crap about Cockatoos!! Snowball still Rocks and was much better then that old man and will Out live him as well lol!!
Excellent show Snowball!!!!
Ooodeeebird sends her luv too!! (lesser sulfur crest cockatoo)
He's an awesome bird. :-) They should have shown a clip of him dancing at home. Being in a strange environment, in addition to all the noise of the audience and Letterman's cackling, of course he was going to be nervous. Great show, nonetheless!
What's the deal with letterman wanting to touch him and the fast hand movements? I guess some people are just not quite in tune with some creatures. He should have known better, but maybe I am being harsh. It's kinda common sence no? I think he did pretty good considering the noise level and all the action there on stage!
Thats comical that David Letterman, Paul, and the entire freaking audience is lacking the intelligence to notice that their own laughing and clapping every single bloody time the bird starts dancing is what is causing the bird to thus STOP dancing and wreck the show.
It's a shame that people cannot buy smart, at least ya have a big house though eh Dave?
@Stiletos i have a bird...i just don't think people even most pet bird owners -- don't know much about birds and their behaviors. you can't really blame them, i doubt Letterman knew much about birds. he's not an avian vet, he's a talk show host. and i freaking love both birds and DAVE. in fact i think he is very intelligent. he's just putting on a comedy show, the bit with the stool was hilarious.
Oh, looks like he got shy in front of so many people. Letterman wanting to to poke him didn't help either... I've read somewhere that the crest going up means that bird is startled or surprised.
Snowball doesn't get nervous. He doesn't like strangers poking fingers at him and then hovering over him while he's trying to dance. Snowball was quite leary of Dave after that.
Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc.
Yeah, poor thing, he looked destructed and confused when audience was laughing and clapping. So annoying and abrasive of Letterman to poke fingers and hand at him, it's obvious he's never had a bird: P That would've disturbed Snowball for sure.
This isn't the first time he upsets animals, I've seen it a number of times with other species he's had on his show, he once got bitten by a dog even. His whole energy and respect towards animals seem so off, you see it instantly. Either he is very uneducated in basic ethology, or he wants too much. I mean, who can not love animals?
Apparently Snowball doesn't like a lot of people watching him....either that or he doesn't like the talk show hosts, lol. I can see on the expression on Snowball's face that he was very disappointed and upset - especially when he heard everyone laughing at him. No surprise that he pooped on the chair.
Birds dance to the beat. Laughing is not a beat hence it confused the bird which was trying to find the beat in the laughing. The bird was probably also trying to take in the visual element of the audience too. Birds are easily distracted.
I just love Snowball with all my heart and soul. And the other thing, Snowball is really a beautiful cockatoo..... Also I think fondly of Irena's generosity and for her love of Snowball and especially for her causes of helping birds who are in need of help after their habitat are being threatened by illegal logging and developments. Other birds are being caught and sold as pets by poachers as an attempt to raise quick cash. These activities are illegal and must be stopped.
Letterman is not an idiot , he has a very cool sense of humour n joking, but here he screwed up cuz animals ..they ar like ppl/ That bird just was freaked out of the another inviroment, atmosphare n a bunch of ppl laughing around.
Interesting, I have an 11 year old Cockatoo named Smokey who dances. Unlike Snowball he doesn't raise his claws while dancing, but instead incorporates his wings a lot more - who would have thought that cockatoo's would have different dance techniques :)
I love your bird! Can he dance on his own or do you have to dance in front of him? Because I guess if you have to dance then he is just imitating you. If he can dance independently it proves that animals can have a sense of rhythm.
Snowball was just intimidated by the crowd, I think. He looked kind of freaked out when the audience reacted. He's just used to doing this with a small audience.
I'm amazed he did so well, I assume he is used to dancing in a house, surrounded by other birds and in a comfortable environment. The fact that he was rockin it out - even a little bit - on TV, after being transported from Britain and placed in unknown surroundings is AWESOME!!
Letterman doesn't know very much about birds otherwise he wouldn't have been waving his hand so close to the bird's head. Really, would have been doing that to a dog's face? You could tell that Letterman wasn't impressed, but those of us who have seen Snowball in action in other videos know that this was NOT representative of his abilities. He was obviously uncomfortable, being in an unfamilar place, watched by many strangers.
Dave ruined Snowball's appearance by flipping his finger in Snowball's face and standing behind him during the song. His people should have showed him the dam video before hand. What a waste.
so cute =) .. only the crowd should've been informed not to applause during the performance so Snowball gets not irritated. make sure you tell them before at his next TV-appearance which I hope he gets very soon :o)
At 2:40, I can see that Snowball pooped on David's chair! "No wonder the bird is angry!" he said. The show's editors used the slow-motion replay to cover up his defecating. Man, did David's crew get upset with you about that?
oh the timing was perfect! look how snowball gets right in front of david like "and this is what i think of your tv show."

Apparently Snowball doesn't like a lot of people watching him....either that or he doesn't like the talk show hosts, lol. I can see on the expression on Snowball's face that he was very disappointed and upset - especially when he heard everyone laughing at him. No surprise that he pooped on the chair.

he didnt dance very much probably hearing the audience cheer.. and laugh...may be
gutrp 2 years ago 2
Birds dance to the beat. Laughing is not a beat hence it confused the bird which was trying to find the beat in the laughing. The bird was probably also trying to take in the visual element of the audience too. Birds are easily distracted.

He didnt dance that much weird, Snowball ROCKS

I just love Snowball with all my heart and soul. And the other thing, Snowball is really a beautiful cockatoo..... Also I think fondly of Irena's generosity and for her love of Snowball and especially for her causes of helping birds who are in need of help after their habitat are being threatened by illegal logging and developments. Other birds are being caught and sold as pets by poachers as an attempt to raise quick cash. These activities are illegal and must be stopped.

Its just too damned bad that Snowball didn't bite Letterman...now that would have been funny!

Letterman is an idiot. He didn't even give him a chance to get into it.

does it matter we can watch snowball on youtube maybe someones else is an idiot for caring so much about something so little!

Interesting, I have an 11 year old Cockatoo named Smokey who dances. Unlike Snowball he doesn't raise his claws while dancing, but instead incorporates his wings a lot more - who would have thought that cockatoo's would have different dance techniques :)

what an idiot, who shoves their finger at a bird like this?? i'd have slapped him.
jnicholson061905 2 years ago 5
I dearly wish Snowball had bite Letterman once with that rude, poking finger of his.
emanzeme 2 years ago 3
I love your bird! Can he dance on his own or do you have to dance in front of him? Because I guess if you have to dance then he is just imitating you. If he can dance independently it proves that animals can have a sense of rhythm.
larryrael 2 years ago 2
He dances on his own, but prefers encouragement from an audience.

A scientist has actually investigated exactly this question. Go to Irena's blog, there's a link to a magazine article describing the research.

lol, he gets into the music a lot more than most people do

Snowball was just intimidated by the crowd, I think. He looked kind of freaked out when the audience reacted. He's just used to doing this with a small audience.

Letterman is an idiot. This is about the time I switch to channel 4 and watch Jay, or soon to be Conan.

I think the bird has better sense than the host!

You must watch the "Snowball and Stevie Nicks" video (on top of the "More From..." column :)
Wowbagger86 2 years ago
I'm amazed he did so well, I assume he is used to dancing in a house, surrounded by other birds and in a comfortable environment. The fact that he was rockin it out - even a little bit - on TV, after being transported from Britain and placed in unknown surroundings is AWESOME!!
verticalsmurf 2 years ago 7
I don't think it's the unfamiliar surroundings... I just think that he has developed a proper taste in music ;)
Wowbagger86 2 years ago
you can definitely see how he stops when the people starts clapping. The owner should have mentioned this...
petarro 2 years ago 3
Letterman doesn't know very much about birds otherwise he wouldn't have been waving his hand so close to the bird's head. Really, would have been doing that to a dog's face? You could tell that Letterman wasn't impressed, but those of us who have seen Snowball in action in other videos know that this was NOT representative of his abilities. He was obviously uncomfortable, being in an unfamilar place, watched by many strangers.

LOL poor birdie was so nervous he shat on David's chair! xD
myboomstick 2 years ago 3
Dave ruined Snowball's appearance by flipping his finger in Snowball's face and standing behind him during the song. His people should have showed him the dam video before hand. What a waste.
peregrine11 2 years ago 2
Agree.. He cant behave round animals and he should have known "who" the parrot is in advance.
caroline4323 2 years ago 6
Leterman tries waaay to hard to be funny in this video and just comes across as a pompous jerk.

This bird is awesome. (And Letterman continues to be the most overrated personality in the history of television).

Oh my gosh, he is sooooooo cute!
I never knew he went on TV!
He looked so nervous, the poor little thing. That's probably why he has a little "accident" on David's chair :P

I looove him! His dancing is just such a joy to watch. Poor guy must have been so nervous though with the audience there.

so cute =) .. only the crowd should've been informed not to applause during the performance so Snowball gets not irritated. make sure you tell them before at his next TV-appearance which I hope he gets very soon :o)

At 2:40, I can see that Snowball pooped on David's chair! "No wonder the bird is angry!" he said. The show's editors used the slow-motion replay to cover up his defecating. Man, did David's crew get upset with you about that?
Halpin2006 3 years ago
Everyone on the show had a great sense of humor. No worries.
