This was the first year I started watching baseball as a kid. Followed the Mets all year until they lost the NLCS in 7 to Orel Hershiser and the Dodgers. I had to wait 11 years for them to make the playoffs again. I still miss Darryl Strawberry.

He was saying how the starters were the best pitchers on the staff in the old days, and - by and large - they would decide if a team won or lost. He said that these days it's the guys in the bullpen who decide the majority of games, so you put the guys with the best stuff out there. I thought, "What about Carpenter and Wainwright??" Enjoy your retirement, Tony!
