can someone please tell me why you changed your North American made cars and turned them into our European cars any specific reason can someone please tell me I really want to know.

I like some American cars but mostly the classics and as an American I have to say 5.3 liters and all you get is 300 horsepower very disappointing. In this day and age your starting to see 300 horsepower come out of 4 cylinder motors or even 330 to 400 out of v6 motors. So 5.3 liter 300 horsepower is nothing to brag about then the American auto industry wonders why Americans are buying foreign cars over domestics well more fuel efficient better mpg and more power out of a smaller engine.
its only possible to get 300 hp out of 4 cylinders by adding at least one supercharger and a turbo. even with a high displacement of 2.4-2.6 liter 4 cylinder engine with high compression ratio and supporting valve technologies: AVCS, VTEC, MIVEC....
Very true but even still you probably get better fuel economy and because its mostly a small car that 4 cylinder motor is going in whether turbo powered or supercharged 300 horses is a nice amount to cruise around on. Compared to a larger car with equal horsepower but has more weight and a bigger motor which means more fuel its no mystery why people are switching to smaller vehicles and clearly that is the direction the U.S. automakers need to head towards if they want business to pick up.
I'm pretty sure that they could have gotten WAY more horsepower from the 5.3 than 303. Remember, the car is front wheel drive. my guess is that it is significantly detuned not to mention that AFM cuts 20-30 hp.
@crush, maybe you haven't heard about your oh-so praised jaguar and the company's destiny, it was sold as a bargain to an Indian company and jaguar engines now power indian cars such as the "mahindra" , i guess that is why your european cars are "oh-so much better" than anything else i believe ! :D hahahahah my oh my, get some facts straight first before you start bashing&talking , as for VW, they overblow their small engines with turbos which fail on a regular basis! so get real my friend!
yes and the engines say toyota lexus is a waste of money they even tell you that at the lexus dealer If your not buying a LS then they tell you to get a fully loaded camry or avalon
Yes, it does make 300hp. Now lets look at torque. With small motors making decent hp, its ok. But you MUST have big transmission sets to take advantage of all that RPM. Its a design stradgety. Would you say the 300hp - 14L diesel engines are weak. They "only" put down 1600 ft-lbs of torque.
well, since i mentioned the 1998 Lexus gs400 earlier, lets compare its torque numbers to Buick's. Buick = 323, Lexus = 310. Please understand that Lexus displacement is only 4.0 but even so... by the way I also doubt this Buick would match lexus' 0 - anything , (0-60 5.4sec.) My point is that no matter how you look at it the technology of this buick cannot match that of a 10 year old jap
Sure i'd be happy to match an older even more outdated Buick GNX against the 310? Sure less HP and 50 ft-lbs more torque (even stock numbers which were underrated and stock times which were underated) It would run high 12s in stock form. And dynoed made 335 to the wheels and 350ft-lbs at the wheels. Add high octane? Well its a forgone conclusion.
crushceeper - its a 5.3. and us "noobs" over here in usa also have a 6.2 with 638 hp so whats your point. the 5.3 is the 327 originated from the 1500 trucks gm makes that are damn good trucks. better than the tundras and titans.
these cars are nice as hell, look good and very luxurious. i wouldnt mind having one. i throw a supercharger on it and call it a day.
The 5.3's actually only have 324 cubes to be exact, get on there web site and pull up crate motors, and it clearly says 324. But none the less, great engines.
you amerikans must made some nice cars that's all suck
a buick lucerne 3.9Liter V6 have only 239HP :s
we in europe a normale V4 2.2 - 2.5 liter have even more HP noobs and the view is mutch better buy a german car BMW audi Volkswagen Mercedes our a car of UK jaguar .... that's are car's not that amerikan shit
you know what its the problem? you are only focuse on the hp, most of the american car are really reliable, and actually not as expensive as some of european cars that you mentioned. Well yes some american cars may not have the technology of the european, but they are reliable and cheap to fix.
One thing I believe we can all agree on is the fact that "crushceeper's" grammatical skills suck even more than the engineering quality of American cars.
traditionally americans like torque...that why it has a 5.3 v8 with 300hp it has 330 torque way down low. besides, who really needs 4 camshafts?! I'll take just one and a set of lifters and pushrods please.
Its called Direct Injection, and the HFV6 LLT engine from GM which debuted in the 08 Cadillac STS does utilize it, it is a 300 HP engine. so much for Americans not being able to do it...
Well it had potential. Buick had the chance but fell short... Hopefully someone from BUICK is reading this and says "hey, maybe we should get at least a manumatic in there!"
Well it had potential. Buick had the chance but fell short... Hopefully someone from BUICK is reading this and says "hey, maybe we should get at least a manumatic in there!"
i'm sure if someone from buick read you comment they are saying " we passed lexus for the number one spot for most reliable car"
you know they must be making a good car if they have most reliable and the lacrosse is the number one sold car in china
But it's front wheel drive, no strut tower brace, halogen headlights (no HID), pushrod engine, no manual or even e-shift. Seems like just a V8 Lumina to me.
Another domestic that falls short. I hate when cars are made to appeal to sport enthusiast, but there is no 6speed manual. Well, at least the Cadillac V series does.
I do like the new 5.3 super lacross but i also own 2 turbo regals,a 1998 3.8 supercharged regal grand sport,I fill that G.M. could have launch a retro Buick grand national for 2007-08 and made alot of people take notice and look at the grand national badge again. Why doesnt Buick have a kick ass car?Pontiac has the GTO.Chevy has the new Camaro,Even Saturn has a hot rod.Why doesnt buck have one? the public has been asking for it for 20 years now but your just are not hearing them.
Hey GeneralMotorsRules, I have alot of respect for your loyalty to GM. I feel the same way. I can tell you & I are alike when it comes to cars...They are my life lol I can tell you know your stuff & only being 17 that is very impressive. When I disagreed with you I meant no disrespect, I just wish they had these options I like available. I really like what GM has done with their interiors, they are really getting it together & I'm excited about their future vehicles. Later Man
Oh I forgot to mention, I used mapquest three different times and two out of the three times I ended up having to cross out most of the directions they gave me due to mapquest taking me the longer or wrong route. Alot of people I know said the same thing & there right, mapquest sucks.
That's better than nothing I guess. Ever since I bought a car with a built in nav system I wouldn't want it any other way. I like to see what roads are around me, gas stations, resteraunts, parks ect ect. I will not buy GM again until an auto/manual shift & a full screen navigation are both available. Xeon headlamps are a close third on my have to have in a car options. I understand this stuff costs money but, atleast make this equipment optional.
As posted above... I said auto shift feature, what I meant was "Auto Manual Shift" or whatever they call it. Another car that I love that doesn't have either features is the Impala SS V8. The G.P GXP has both of these features but I don't care for that body style as much. Ford needs to add an auto/manual shift into their cars too.
They ruined a great car by not having a Nav system & an auto shift feature available! How in this day and age can you not have these features in a nice car like this. Such a shame, same goes for the G8, Aura, & Malibu. They atleast have the manual shift feature but no nav! Many sales will be lost because of this. OnStar is not a nav system, I don't care what anybody says. I don't wan't to have to call to get directions. I'd be better off with a regular map. These changes need to be made GM!
Maybe you'll care what I say. OnStar is a navigation system; standard on all models as well. Did you know that instead of calling, you can send the vehicle directions from mapquest? The vehicle then displays the info on the radio screen and reads the directions to you as you go. A unique feature not offered by the competition; especially not at $20K.
I love how he says "additional lateral support for the aggressive maneuvers that you are capable of doing in this vehicle." I've got an Impala SS, and let me tell you, you need a ton of lateral support because you can do some pretty aggressive maneuvers in these things considering they're huge sedans on a 20 year old platform
4:38 beleive the speedo!!!!!! and a great review. i like buicks. im 18. u dont see that much. but hey they got power! its the old people that dont know how to drive them is what gives them their bad name.
benz4life : first of all, go fuck yourself and your family, and second i am not an American , but a Dutchman u bonner. And yes Jap-cars have no disign ! And yes go go with the flow white the American carshow
Uh.... they say it is FWD. Other than a $130,000 Maseratti or a $60,000 BMW roadster what portholes are real these days again? This is a $33,000 sedan.
Ford/Mercury/Lincoln as well as all the Chrysler/Dodge divisions with the exception of Jeep are having the same "muddled" image. Luxury-oriented Chryslers are looking sporty. The Dodges look like they're meant to appeal to men going through mid-life crisis. Do I even need to mention how there is basically no differentiation between Ford/Mercury/Lincoln? It's a joke. I think people are catching on to American generic-ness and buying foreign where there is more differentiation between brands.
I think it's a very attractive, unique look. Problem is it's FWD. Hardly sporty. Plus, IT'S A BUICK! This is GMs problem. They don't differentiate enough between their divisions. Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, they are all making sporty vehicles now. It's like different looking versions of the same cars. Chevy should be budget/family-friendly. Pontiac, the sport division. Buick, entry-level luxury. Cadillac, top-tier luxury. GM divisions are way too muddled and all blend together.
this is pretty much a pontiac grand prix GXP with a slightly different body, same engine and both of the models are used interchangeably in crash tests. the best 0-60 for gxp was clocked at 5.7
this car is going to embarrass many sports car drivers.
I hope this car isn't front-wheel-drive. If it is, then I'm afraid it won't perform that well. A V8 engine is just too heavy and powerful for a FWD architecture. Granted, I do like the styling.
This car IS a front wheel drive and, despite that, there is almost no torque steer present. This is one of the most settled rides on the market today - a truly "best kept secret"..... It is a lightweight aluminum V8 and provides 300 horsepower. Despite that, it also provides VERY decent fuel economy (mid to upper 20's on the highway). Drive it gently and it's sofa quiet - punch it and HOLD ON! IT PERFORMS!
That's very good then. Because I've always liked the looks of this car. I was just afraid it would drive bad because of the FWD V8. Europeans usually go RWD with V8 engines. But we can never underestimate our nation's ability to build good cars to match the best of Japan and Germany.
YOU ARE RIGHT! 10 years ago I wouldn't have dreamt that General Motors could build such a quality car. LOOK OUT TOYOTA - We're BAAAACK! I would HIGHLY encourage anyone to drive one of these. It is the most amazing car out there. VERY unique for certain.
I did and somehow didn't pay attention to the part in which it says it's FWD. And double-posting isn't going to double people's chances of noticing your posts.
Did not mean to double post. Only the video owner can delete it, so there is nothing I can do about that.
One of the guys at work has one and it is a great vehicle. Jewel Red Tintcoat looks great. Although, I prefer the LaCrosse in black to show off the chrome trim the best.
Agreed. I stopped by the Buick dealership and looked at one of those Supers in black. It looked a lot classier. It sure was a comfortable car. Didn't test drive one, though (I knew the sales person would've harassed me for the rest of my life had I shown some interest in it).
This is the HOTTEST car I have driven in 20 years. This poor guy isn't doing it justice AT ALL. I sell these and they are the COOLLECT things EVER made and that's from a LONG TIME car guy. This car is awesome - period.
The outside of the car is still so old fashioned...nothing different; same in regards to the interior. However, they make it seem as if the car is something new and different. The car appears to be a copy cat of several different cars. I hope they (GM, Buick) develop something original. Anyway, I wish GM well.
The 2008 GS350 starts at $44,000 before options (some of which run $6000.). You get a loaded Super for $34,000. It is a great vehicle for this price point.
I ordered mine in July (with the Red Jewel Tintcoat color) and took delivery in August. So far, I'm very happy with the car's performance. I made three 0-60 runs on a seldom used frontage road and measured 5.5, 5.7, and 5.8 seconds with my stopwatch. So the car is very quick! I did notice some torque-steer while mashing the gas pedal, but wasn't overly concerned. The seats are very comfortable and the interior looks nice too.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Pushrod V8 with only 300hp? Front wheel drive? Macpherson struts (4)? And only 25MPG? Jeeze! Toyota can get 303hp from a 3.5L V6 (DOHC) and 29MPG in a rear wheel drive true sport sedan with the proper suspension. Not to mention the quality build associated---GS350!
FWD V8 buick what a stupid design.

:D hahahahah my oh my, get some facts straight first before you start bashing&talking , as for VW, they overblow their small engines with turbos which fail on a regular basis! so get real my friend!

dmelkumo 2 years ago 3
yes and the engines say toyota lexus is a waste of money they even tell you that at the lexus dealer If your not buying a LS then they tell you to get a fully loaded camry or avalon
bighorse215 2 years ago
Yes, it does make 300hp. Now lets look at torque. With small motors making decent hp, its ok. But you MUST have big transmission sets to take advantage of all that RPM. Its a design stradgety. Would you say the 300hp - 14L diesel engines are weak. They "only" put down 1600 ft-lbs of torque.
biscuitninja 2 years ago
well, since i mentioned the 1998 Lexus gs400 earlier, lets compare its torque numbers to Buick's. Buick = 323, Lexus = 310. Please understand that Lexus displacement is only 4.0 but even so... by the way I also doubt this Buick would match lexus' 0 - anything , (0-60 5.4sec.) My point is that no matter how you look at it the technology of this buick cannot match that of a 10 year old jap
dmelkumo 2 years ago
Sure i'd be happy to match an older even more outdated Buick GNX against the 310? Sure less HP and 50 ft-lbs more torque (even stock numbers which were underrated and stock times which were underated) It would run high 12s in stock form. And dynoed made 335 to the wheels and 350ft-lbs at the wheels. Add high octane? Well its a forgone conclusion.

Well, then if you like japs and china men so much, then go live there.

my regal gs beat a lexus ls 430 (i believe) from 55 too 110 and it was a later model than my regal.
and the 5.3 in the 2000 sierra i thought was a 327, i was 3 off whoopdie fucking doo. same technology as the lacross super.
buick must be better, thats why they past lexus for the #1 spot for most reliable.
larson1647 2 years ago
crushceeper - its a 5.3. and us "noobs" over here in usa also have a 6.2 with 638 hp so whats your point. the 5.3 is the 327 originated from the 1500 trucks gm makes that are damn good trucks. better than the tundras and titans.
these cars are nice as hell, look good and very luxurious. i wouldnt mind having one. i throw a supercharger on it and call it a day.
larson1647 2 years ago
The 5.3's actually only have 324 cubes to be exact, get on there web site and pull up crate motors, and it clearly says 324. But none the less, great engines.

you know what its the problem? you are only focuse on the hp, most of the american car are really reliable, and actually not as expensive as some of european cars that you mentioned. Well yes some american cars may not have the technology of the european, but they are reliable and cheap to fix.

When I disagreed with you I meant no disrespect, I just wish they had these options I like available. Oh I forgot to mention, I used mapquest three different times and two out of the three times I ended up having to cross out most of the directions they gave me due to mapquest taking me the longer or wrong route. Alot of people I know said the same thing & there right, mapquest sucks.
IrishChris1979 3 years ago
That's better than nothing I guess. Ever since I bought a car with a built in nav system I wouldn't want it any other way. I like to see what roads are around me, gas stations, resteraunts, parks ect ect. I will not buy GM again until an auto/manual shift & a full screen navigation are both available. Xeon headlamps are a close third on my have to have in a car options. I understand this stuff costs money but, atleast make this equipment optional.
IrishChris1979 3 years ago
As posted above... I said auto shift feature, what I meant was "Auto Manual Shift" or whatever they call it. Another car that I love that doesn't have either features is the Impala SS V8. The G.P GXP has both of these features but I don't care for that body style as much. Ford needs to add an auto/manual shift into their cars too.
IrishChris1979 3 years ago
They ruined a great car by not having a Nav system & an auto shift feature available! How in this day and age can you not have these features in a nice car like this. Such a shame, same goes for the G8, Aura, & Malibu. They atleast have the manual shift feature but no nav! Many sales will be lost because of this. OnStar is not a nav system, I don't care what anybody says. I don't wan't to have to call to get directions. I'd be better off with a regular map. These changes need to be made GM!
IrishChris1979 3 years ago
Maybe you'll care what I say. OnStar is a navigation system; standard on all models as well. Did you know that instead of calling, you can send the vehicle directions from mapquest? The vehicle then displays the info on the radio screen and reads the directions to you as you go. A unique feature not offered by the competition; especially not at $20K.
GeneralMotorsRules 3 years ago
I love how he says "additional lateral support for the aggressive maneuvers that you are capable of doing in this vehicle." I've got an Impala SS, and let me tell you, you need a ton of lateral support because you can do some pretty aggressive maneuvers in these things considering they're huge sedans on a 20 year old platform

I think people are catching on to American generic-ness and buying foreign where there is more differentiation between brands.
palebeachbum 3 years ago
I think it's a very attractive, unique look. Problem is it's FWD. Hardly sporty. Plus, IT'S A BUICK! This is GMs problem. They don't differentiate enough between their divisions. Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, they are all making sporty vehicles now. It's like different looking versions of the same cars. Chevy should be budget/family-friendly. Pontiac, the sport division. Buick, entry-level luxury. Cadillac, top-tier luxury. GM divisions are way too muddled and all blend together.

pfo335 3 years ago
yeah american cars these days are all cheap knock-offs of the original, with obsolete technology... they really dont have any guts anymore
caudice 3 years ago
I hope this car isn't front-wheel-drive. If it is, then I'm afraid it won't perform that well. A V8 engine is just too heavy and powerful for a FWD architecture. Granted, I do like the styling.
superauctionstar 3 years ago 2
This car IS a front wheel drive and, despite that, there is almost no torque steer present. This is one of the most settled rides on the market today - a truly "best kept secret"..... It is a lightweight aluminum V8 and provides 300 horsepower. Despite that, it also provides VERY decent fuel economy (mid to upper 20's on the highway). Drive it gently and it's sofa quiet - punch it and HOLD ON! IT PERFORMS!
tcp2150 3 years ago
That's very good then. Because I've always liked the looks of this car. I was just afraid it would drive bad because of the FWD V8. Europeans usually go RWD with V8 engines. But we can never underestimate our nation's ability to build good cars to match the best of Japan and Germany.
superauctionstar 3 years ago 3
YOU ARE RIGHT! 10 years ago I wouldn't have dreamt that General Motors could build such a quality car. LOOK OUT TOYOTA - We're BAAAACK! I would HIGHLY encourage anyone to drive one of these. It is the most amazing car out there. VERY unique for certain.

The outside of the car is still so old fashioned...nothing different; same in regards to the interior. However, they make it seem as if the car is something new and different. The car appears to be a copy cat of several different cars. I hope they (GM, Buick) develop something original. Anyway, I wish GM well.
