yes it is. I recommend learning redux, then learning the k4 because redux is pretty basic and introduces you to some concepts that you will use in k4. knowing cage will also help.
I used to use all a cycle that I came up with: first 6 gen then 4 gen, and then I solve the last two edges with an algorithm. But then I realized two gen was way faster because I started to get sub-2 minutes with 2 gen.

no it's a rubik's 4x4 with tiles and I lubed it with vaseline. I don't have silicone lol
