Nice:) Though I'm more accustomed to play it in C, this version is good, too. Actually, I think, this song sounds better on tenor recorder, doesn't it?
oooh you are soo good at recorder... i have a recorder test tomorrow and im just looking this up to see if i got the notes right...but i made some mistakes..
A is when you cover the hole on the back side of the recorder and the first and second holes on the front side of the recorder. B is when you cover the back whole on the recorder and the first hole on the front side of the recorder.
C is when you cover the hole on the back of the recorder and the second hole on the front of the recorder.
D is when you cover the only the second hole on the front of the recorder.
If you need to know how to play any other notes feel free to ask me.
whats the baroque fingering for F? Can you do a lesson on it? Also how can you get a flat/sharp on the recorder? (covering a hole halfway seems to work but didnt you say it only causes a squeaky note it the hole is not cofered fully)
The baroque fingering for F is still LH on the top. All fingers down, including your pinkie, but your right middle finger is up. You are absolutely right about the sharps and flats using the half hole positions. Since I only teach low C up to high D to my third graders, I haven't gone over the sharps and flats in any of my lessons. Did your recorder come with a fingering chart?
No actually, no charts just memory and trial. Im a junior in highschool and i havent played since 3rd grade, I just still had a plastic recorder from that time and I randomly decided to look up lessons on it.
This is a German recorder. It is made by Emus. I tried as many recorders as I could, and this was by far the best sounding one. Unfortunately, they changed the recipe this year so they wouldn't fall apart as much, but they sound SOOOO bad. I will be switching to the Peripole Angle recorders for next year. They make both German and Baroque fingerings.
You may be more comfortable teaching your young students the German-fingered F (which is definitely easier for a young person), but that very much appears to be one of the cheap transparent Yamaha Baroque recorders.
I have an identical one somewhere...
I'm not aware of them producing a German recorder, please correct me if I'm wrong.
thats pretty good but I have one comment about when u play F. Here it is played Thumb, 1, 2, 3, 4, when it should be thumb, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 to keep it in tune. Just a heads up
NICE MAN! learned so much from watching this video.. I have never played any kind of instrument before, and i pretty much learned to play this song, in about 60 minutes of watching.
Thanks for the comment, but I disagree. I play many woodwind instruments and most of them use 3 on top and one on the bottom for F. None use the forked F that the baroque recorders use. If a person wishes to become a professional recorder player, they might look into the baroque, but for elementary players, the German fingering is better for getting them ready for a band instrument. As for sound, I think the quality of the instrument determines the quality of sound, not the fingering.
Then you probably don't play the oboe (for example) which DOES use the forked F (baroque and modern instruments). neilclarinet is correct in saying that the baroque fingering would be more beneficial in the long run. I play flute (both modern and baroque (which uses the FORKED F)), oboe, bassoon, sax, clarinet (which uses a forked fingering for low B akin to the F on sop rec) and recorder. Only the sax and flute use the three on top and one on the bottom for F. This is known as the Bohm system.
Yes! Its been a while since I have played the oboe. I teach beginning middle school students and after taking a year of recorder, some may move on to play flute, clarinet or sax (along with brass). Since most of my students only play recorder for one year, and none of them move directly on to oboe or bassoon, the German fingering work best for my purposes.
Glad to hear you are interested in learning recorder! I just posted a lesson on "Ode to Joy" and a beginning lesson that may help. Click on the "musicteacher44" link and they should be there.

I use a German recorder which fingers F "T 123 1." Your recorder is probably Baroque and uses "T 123 1 3 p."

Eek, German fingering recorder. Baroque fingering ones sound much nicer and do kids more favours in the long run.
Sorry.
