I'm not even african American and I permanently straightened my hair in gr8, I had gorgeous curls that I couldn't accept. Not like your tight curls, but very bouncy beautiful curls. I was a moron and bought in to the straight hair shit. I lost my curls(it never grew back the same), I'm now 20 and I FINALLY have my hair back! I think everyone is self-conscious about curly hair. When I lost my curls I realized how much I loved them!

Yes thats how african Americans hair looks naturally >some of us have thicker and coarser hair and some of us fine and silky natural hair and when we come it out it forms an afro , and A LOT of us are in between those two textures...

and the curls you are referring to occur when when you wet or add some form of moisture to your afro. By adding the moisture whether it is gel ,water or some curling mouse, it defines our curl pattern and enhances it . to add the shine we put a little amount of oil or leave in conditioner >

@Thejazzylady1 becaues that kind of defeats the whole purpose of even having natural hair, you can transition for however long you want if you dont want to have a twa (you can get trims until you're all natural). but the point at where the last bit of your relaxed hair is trimmed or cut off is reffered to as a big chop or mini chop by most people. dont be scared tho lol it's a beautiful moment to be relaxer free :). but however you want to go natural is up to you.
