  • R.I.P BEN

  • @RR5GUITAR indeed... he was amazing, I wish I could do something as great as he did.

  • @RR5GUITAR What? he's dead?

  • When you become blind, your other senses become hypersensitive and so they can perform much more efficiently. Added with the fact that his body and brain were still developing his brain grows in a unique way that allows this use of his extraordinary senses to perform echolocation.

  • WELL PLAYING BUDOKAI TENKAICHI WITHOUT EYES IS AN AMAZING SKILL

well he will never have to buy a newer console cos he plays by sound only

  • Comment removed

  • I sense dare devil!

  • they should put him on wipeout

  • rest in peace

  • incredible

  • Amazing!

  • Guys, they have software that reads text out for blind people, and braille keyboards. And the video has sound -- its just like listening to a radio report. You just watched a video about a blind kid able to play video games -- a blind person using the internet isn't exactly rocket science. Lol.

  • :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • this is not echolocation. he`s just hearing. echolocation is completely different.

  • @scuzzulus If that were the case, then he wouldn't be able to "see" things that make no noise, such as immobile plastic bins or fire hydrants.

  • Fuck yeah Daredevil.

  • See us blind people we can do anything that sighted people can, except drive cause is agonist the law

  • @Mikki11S ''us blind people''? you are obviously watching this video and writing a comment. thats very blind.

  • @Mikki11S

how are you on the computer?

how did you find this video?

  • @cydiaguy curious, how do you even work a computer. does it read? and you speak?

  • Ok my is there a middle finger cursor in the beginning and why is this on mucho sucko.com lol

  • "How can you even seperate the sound"

"Cause they got different voices (gtfo noob)"

    *lol*

  • Unbelievable

  • thumbs up if you believe that the 11 people who don't like are retarded....

  • @ageevito onna put my thumb in your ass

  • i got a few words for you you are a fucking dipshit sons of basterds nigga

  • @skater123267890 you are a bloody son of an asshole, i hope you loose your sight as well, retarded bastard

  • @MegaSantos1991 : Lose* .. Learn English you Mexitard.

  • @skater123267890 *bastard.

You don't seem to be able to spell, sir.

  • I f i was crippled I so would so give him a robotic face after smashing it in a billion pieces! THAT would be a heartfelt moment.

  • Awwh, are u 4real, he passed on?

  • sadly he died at the age of 16 from the same cancer that took his sight :(

  • This motherfucker is a OG, shit nigga

  • Fucking button mashing whore. Learn to play the game dipshit.

  • this is just unbelivable

  • Ben passed away on January 19, 2009 at age of 16. He was taken by the same cancer that claimed his sight and leaves behind a legacy of inspiration few will ever match.

I offer my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

  • Well he'll surely get some sex lmaoo

  • I have no words... Awesom boy.

  • i hope to meet him some day

  • @masmotors he is dead :( but maybe in you'll meet him in heaven (:

  • a real x men i remeber watching this on tlc i think what special person and i use that as a good thin g wow thats cool

  • Problem, sightfags?

  • Echolocation is actually easy to learn, just hard to master. Walk to a room in your house slowly with your eyes closed and make clickigng sounds while facing the wall at about 5 inches away. I guarantee once you reach the door frame of the room, you will hear a different echo.

  • one thing i dont get his how HE CAN PLAY VIDEO GAMES

fyi he was playing DBZ :P

    kid buu vs sayiaman

  • @iamtrash123

i think its ssj4 goku vs ssj gogeta

  • @GOHARDSWorld ye second time you see him play and ye it was buu v ss4 gogeta. but still dont get how he plays.

  • @GOHARDSWorld ye second time you see him play and ye it was buu v ss4 gogeta. but still dont get how he plays. cause he was against the elite 4 in one of the vids

  • he's Daredevil! seriously he might rollerblade better than me and i can see perfectly :(

  • ahahahahahahaha he's so dead now

  • This kid was so full of himself, and for a blind person was very self conscious with not wanting to use a cain, and putting 99% of everyone else at risk for hitting him in the streets when he "knows where he's going" and walking in circles in a intersection. Seriously this kid got way to much credit.

  • @jcostello117 He died. About a year ago.

  • @frizzylexi .....and?

  • @jcostello117 ... I don't like to speak ill of dead people unless they did something legitimately wrong. But that's just me. AND. I'm not going to start an internet battle with someone I have never met before. LALWZ

  • @jcostello117 Obviously he knows what he's doing, if he's able to rollerblade in the streets fine and play sports.

You're just jelly that he can see while being blind.

  • @Shortkid110 are you KIDDING me?? they showed him skating right into parked cars AND getting lost because he was too busy showing off for the cameras! He could not rollerblade, if I lived on his block I would have the cops called so I wouldnt have bother screaming at him to get out of the damn street, maybe I would hit him just to teach him a valuable life lesson.

  • @jcostello117 I just watched the whole video, and I didn't see him almost hit a parked car. Please, elaborate, just show us where he almost hit a parked car.

  • @Shortkid110 damnit ok, if its not in this one its in another one as I watched a few of these vids on youtube. I'll try to find it but I swear, I may talk shit about a dead blind kid, but I DO NOT lie! He didnt almost hit it either, he nailed it. =D

  • @jcostello117 Oh wait nevermind, just looked at your comments and you're trolling every video you go on. Pathetic.

  • @jcostello117 Jesus, you're ripping on a dead blind kid. Do you honestly not see what's wrong with what you just said?

  • @Lazy0Waffle um....thats the point, "lazy-o-waffle".

  • @jcostello117 What's the point? To intentionally be an asshole?

  • like real superheroes with powers

  • Ben and his family are wonderful people

  • What exactly about this video did 8 people not like?

  • @MazorKuziaki your right wats wrong with you people i just learned aout him in science since we are learning waves

  • @MazorKuziaki maybe the middle finger at the bottom left corner x)

  • @MazorKuziaki hes black

  • @MazorKuziaki probably the middle finger on a video that doesn't deserve it? 0_o

  • He died in 2009 at the age of 16. God Rest his soul, but he can see now. :)

  • Wow, an amazing story! Seriously this is mind-blowing and I've seen this before!!!

  • @NeyoScooter I NEVER seen this before...but this is a mind blowing video.... wow!

  • man, who the fuck gave this the thumbs down? c'mooooon man.....

  • Wow, he is amazing! And not just in his ability, but his attitude!

  • Rest his soul.

  • damn the cancer must have pimped his auditory cortex somehow or something but of course sad he cant make sound frequency above 20K Hz like bats and hear the echo

  • @FreeeeS well he pimped it himself lol i think you could learn it. if you like stopped using your eyes and concentrated 100% on just the sound you could prolly learn it too.

  • What a wonderful Mom and she raised a wonderful son. So sorry to hear that Ben died of cancer. My thoughts are with his family.

  • DareDevil

  • My god, this guy is fucking amazing.

  • 7 people have no hearts.

  • Incredible! It is a good video and also quite touching. I like how Ben's mother and the ophthalmologist comment about Ben's attitude. Also, kudos to his mother. She is such a brave and positive lady.

May Ben continue to inspire many people.

  • To bad they have to make a cheesy show around it like that. . . But yeah that's America.

  • he went to sheldon high school in sacramento, ca. this is so amazing. i go to sheldon

  • i can has echo location plawx!?

  • @rapierwon yer u may be right about the video game thing. i dont get it either. but everything else seems definitely possible.

  • @hardstyle905 One possability is the use of stereoscopic surround sound...with enough sounds around you the young man may well be able to detect the sounds clearly than a person with sight as his hearing is more hightened. If this is the case...credit to him and the game creators for getting things spot on.

  • This mom is amazing, she said everything right to him after he had his surgery.

  • He died, that's horrible. Makes me wonder if there is a lord. He seemed like a person who I'd love to befriend. Wtf.

  • R.I.P i cant believe he died of a reoccurance of cancer.he was such a amazing person

  • he was playing a fighting game. each moves has its own sound.

  • WOW, a new friend of mine has the same condition, but he uses a cane. How can I pay attention and utilize echolocation??!?!!

  • This kid has an amazing sense of possessing. It seems he can processes 10 fold of the average human

  • It's not hard to play games. Im blind but play grand theft auto

  • R.I.P. Ben......

  • @joshuapunks he died?? if so what happen

  • @killerxzero

youtube search: Teen Who Used Echolocation Dies Of Cancer

    RIP Ben

  • everybody uses echolocation but the blind have it magnified a thousand times

  • R.I.P.

  • man rest in paradise lil cuzzo.. il see u soon

  • I WAS JUS IN THE STUDIO WITH HIS BROTHER...THATS AMZING MAN RIP BEN UNDERWOOD

  • I can't fathom this. It's insane. This is incredible.

  • Let me tell you how you can tell where a person is located on a tv? Yeah they have different voices but dude there is no way to know where they exactly are. I can see playing some games but nah.

  • this is absolutely amazing

  • He must have evolved over millions of years, huh, evolutionists?

  • @kermitdfrogz no. he is an anomaly. if everyone became blind tomorrow, only he and others like him would survive. then they would procreate, and the human species would all have the same abilities. evolution at work.

  • @sugarkang

That's the problem: Everyone else would have to have that change for a trait like that to excel; and a sudden change, in the species or in the environment will never leave viable candidates to ensure that those traits will thrive, even if the anomaly or mutation is transferable in the first place. Traits have already been "pre-engineered" (for a lack of a better term) in organisms. You can get any breed of dog within a few generations of a wolf when you use beta wolves, for example.

  • !xile

  • Why arent there people, who arent blind but still developed echolocation? I think developing some technology to make people with eyesight to also have echolocation would be one of the most important things on earth.

  • Haha. You know, the real significance behind this is that he uses the chi-sensing seen in Dragon Ball Z(as shown, him playing the DBZ games).

  • very very sad that he died, people don't deserve to be treated like this by life he better be in better place seriously if someone deserves to then its him.

  • So amazing! RIP Ben :(

  • Way to go, BEN! You too, MAMA!

  • yes, I used acoustics to tell how big the room was, how far from me the wall was, whether something was full or empty, what it was made from etc... I have meaning blindness, I saw fine but couldn't recognise what I see and couldn't see rooms or objects as a whole.

  • FIRST!!!!

  • cant believe hes dead, same cancer that took his vision as a child returned when he was 16 and killed him :(

  • R.I.P

  • This is touching, and saddening and inspirational all at once. Wow

  • rest in peace

  • when did he pass away?

  • he died from retinal cancer on january of 2009.

  • How does he play a video game with echolocation? That part is rubbish.

  • Respectfully, however, I am sorry he died of cancer.

  • @JaceySquires Its cuz he isn't using echolocation. He is just listening to the sounds, like the sounds of punches and getting hit.

  • No, he explains it. That particular fighting game always have the characters facing each other and they make sounds when performing certain attacks.

  • @JaceySquires He didn't. The video game developers put in different sounds for different actions. Surely he couldn't play all videogames.

  • That. is. awesome.

  • He was in my world history class. He was the most incredible person I have ever met in my entire life.

  • you know that he is dead now right?

  • This is inspirational and it is so sad he has passed on.

Peace and love to his mother and family and may his soul rest peacefully. He was an example of what a strong will can accomplish.

  • rest in peace man. god bless.

  • How easy is it to develop echolocation for a person who is not blind as an additional sense ?

  • i really cant belive how amazing he is playing the playstation i dont know how he does that when the tv is the same distance away

  • its not hard to button mash and win in a fighting game.

  • All the things that boy could do and you chose to comment on him playing a computer game!?

  • And from the serious point I was making, you chose to pick on my games console not being entirely accurate.

And yes I understand a computer is more than a games console.

You are a moron. That is - was - an exceptionally talented boy who never gave up and managed to do things other people in his situation would never have dreamed of doing. The PS2 is not the point.

I'm not arguing with you any more: it's an insult to his memory. He's an inspiration. RIP.

  • This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

  • i know right? its seems imposible

  • I hadnt realised that Ben ha died. My heartfelt sympathies to his family. From the little we saw of Ben here in the UK, it was obvious just what a special boy he was. RIP Ben I hope in heaven you will be seeing all the things you werent able to on earth. Bless you and keep smiling!

  • @JCAquarius2009 do you know how he died?

  • same cancer that took his eyes

  • that's terrible :(

  • Oh, I thought he got hit by a hybrid.

  • lol

  • This is amazing.

To deal with your hardships and still be smiling in the face of it?! Wow!

God sends us people like Ben to remind us all just how slack we are. I needed to watch this video - u inspire me, and so sad to hear that you're no longer with us.

Ben's mum - if you ever read this, I think you're amazing.

    Peace

  • @istheemcee

Good thing god put cancer in his eyes then hmm?

  • Yes its a tragedy, but I find you need to pose the same Q to the person with the disability.

When I spoke to a disabled person a while back, he didn't look to anything -ve about his condition & was a firm believer in God. For me it was a tragedy, but he was having none of it!

If the person ACTUALLY GOING THRU the condition is a firm believer in God then who am I to tell him God is bad?!

I can see where your coming from, but different individuals choose to view things differently.

  • @istheemcee

    You make a good point!

The thing that put me off was this sentence: "God sends us people like Ben to remind us all just how slack we are." I respect your beliefs, but I think you should state that you THINK god send him. Remember that these days their are a lot of people that do not believe in god, and will see this as religieus crap.

Anyways, I think your replay was good, so a thumbs up for you.

  • @BroLucardo

Thats a fair point, nice one.

Plus I think our converstaion is proof that on Youtube you can actually have a discussion without resorting to insults like soooo many other people do!

  • god didn't send him... he was just unlucky.

  • may he rest in peace.

  • Such a fantastic inspirational person and his mother a true

Queen of a person. So sad he died so young, when he had so much to offer the world.

  • The real story is...the mind has no limitations and by hindering our children and telling them what they can and can't do is the limiter. The mind has a capacity that we cannot comprehend.

  • You know what I think.

    Cats.

  • did he really die?

  • Yeah he did. Such an inspiration too. RIP.

  • there was a kid on this morning they sed he was the only kid in the world that can do this ???

  • he died of cancer in january of this year.. =( so sad..

  • Ben Underwood

Though at first resistant to using a cane for mobility, seeing it as a "handi-capped" device, and considering himself "not handicapped at all", Daniel Kish demonstrated to Underwood how he utilized his white cane combined with echolocation to further expand his mobility, though Underwood never adopted this method.[12]

Underwood died on January 19, 2009 at the age of 16, from the same cancer that took his sight.[17]

  • Uum- not being funny, but how would echolocation help someone playing a video game on a static screen?

  • i was wondering that? if anyone knows please tell mee

  • Watch the vid again and pay attention...he uses the sound from the game to know what he's doing. to quote him, "they have different voices". Plus you can see he's playing a fighting game. I can see how voices and sounds would work there...punches hitting or not...etc. but theres no way in hell this kid could play say...need for speed or call of duty or something of that matter. Actually, now that I think about it...fighting games would really be the only way this kid could play anything

  • I bet with a surround sound system this kid could could have been mad good at a whole bunch of games. After learning a level layout sufficiently from rumble in the controller he would have been near unstoppable because sound can position anything... I tip my hat to his fearlessness... stupid cancer

  • tfsahaodj, he did not use echolocation for video games..He had several ways of ''seeing'' and one of them are sounds. Thats how he played videogames
