No avionics suite, no radar complex, no fly by wire, no composites, please...for an aircraft with no avionics n no radar, Pakistan is paying 20 mi a pop, MIG 29 with no avionics cost 150000 a pop. design is great - but wouldn't the manoeuvrability be increased by moving the intakes forward and covering them with an extension of the wing. Then I guess that they'd have to make it so that the covers can move slightly, in some pics it looks like it is done though. I dunno

it dont have the range of so called raptor or su-30, but it got some of the best tech, to be a capable interceptor. Its primary purpose is to defend air attack from outside the country, which means the primary role is to defend the borders and airscape.

Remember TEJAS is only light combat; we need to finish at least 3 aircraft carriers (one by 2012 and a supercarrier expected by 2017), finish and outfit the ATVs, complete an anti satellite weapon system, build a heavy fighter, finish the ICBMs upto Surya - II at least. What we are looking at is more like a 2025 timeline. If you are 24 like me, or thereabout, great things are abt to happen in our lifetime.

Checkout the amount spent on foreign fighters and the time taken for the complete development.
Relatively, India has done a great job, considering all the facts and ground based realities..

it dont have the range of so called raptor or su-30, but it got some of the best tech, to be a capable interceptor. Its primary purpose is to defend air attack from outside the country, which means the primary role is to defend the borders and airscape.

It is classified as a Light Combat multirole fighter. Though considered as a force multiplier, HAL Tejas is a new generation rival to the Gripen in terms of size and designated capabilities.
F-22 is a multi role stealth fighter while Su-30 MKI performs same role minus stealth making it second to the former.
Tejas is a completely different aircraft and comparing the 3 of these would be like comparing plastic to fruit to metal.

Cool it friend; India has to go miles before that happens. Remember TEJAS is only light combat; we need to finish at least 3 aircraft carriers (one by 2012 and a supercarrier expected by 2017), finish and outfit the ATVs, complete an anti satellite weapon system, build a heavy fighter, finish the ICBMs upto Surya - II at least. What we are looking at is more like a 2025 timeline. If you are 24 like me, or thereabout, great things are abt to happen in our lifetime.

We might take time but we make excellent product, mister. For years whatever we made and whatever we imported was mocked by Pakistan as inferior and low quality but despite these "low quality" equipment, we won all the wars with them.
FC-1 is not being considered by PLAAF! Its a frontline fighter for PAF who are replacing their Chinese-made copies with these. The FC-1 is also a rejected design for the "MiG-33". Tejas will replace MiG-21 as an interceptor while Su-30 MKI is our main jet.
