The truth is this song was written by a Christian (Franz Schubert) to praise the Virgin Mary, but it was also written beautifully for the enjoyment of all ears. There have been several variations of Ave Maria by different composers even before Schubert. One should not attempt to bend the truth of these things to suit their own purposes.
