  • That was rocking! Great playing, awesome guit, tasty amp...great combo!

  • @GregN456 Cheers! I really should get the strat back out again soon... for the last year or so i've only been playing and building spanish guitars, and the electric has been sat in its case.

I'll do a new video - that'll get me practicing again! Thanks for the reminder

  • very nice man! Keep it up!

  • @RDB71171 cheers fella

  • such sweeet guitar, and delicate sound!!

  • @HMHMHMHMHMHMHMHMHM cheers! I appreciate that.

    have a good one

  • what guitar?

  • this guitar is one i built out of parts from Warmoth, it has an ebony fingerboard on a rosewood neck and a walnut body with the pao ferro top. Fender CS fat 50's pickups and 13 - 54 guage strings. for anyone experimenting with wood combinations, i highly recommend the rosewood neck! it has quite a deep sound for a strat but also nice clarity from the ebony fingerboard.

  • nice

  • thanks for watching.

  • dude, you didn't murder it

this is one of the best SRV covers ive ever heard!

  • thankyou for your very generous comment! i just tried to mainly copy the album version, albeit from my slightly sketchy memory of it... of course he probably never played it the same way twice!

  • does it have nice clean tones? or is it just good overdrive tones? can you tell me something about it?

    nice cover btw..

  • Thanks. Yes the clean tone is superb. This mk1 gets crunchy at around halfway on the volume control, and sags like crazy due to the valve rectifier.. But yes, shimmering warm cleantones abound. infact I didn't discover its overdrivability till recently when I got a power attenuator. Before that I always used my Selmers totally clean with a marshall preamp infront.

    Sacriledge...

  • oke thanks for you comment,

i asked you because i can get one for 800 euro's. and i asked myself if it's worth.. if i have the head. can I get warm clean tones? but loud enough for a small gig. And can a TS808 make a bit crunchy tones then? because i think it can only have loud over drive sound or not-loud clean. excuse me for my bad english. because i'm dutch.. appreciate your comment very much!

  • It is pretty loud clean, after half way it doesn't really get any louder, just crunchier.

These were rated for 50 clean watts, and more when overdriven - there's actually a sign on the back that says if distortion occurs, turn down. .. yeah, as if!

The sound clean is fantastic, you won't find better. 800EUR sounds about right for a very good condition example - i've seen some rough ones about... don't forget they stopped making them in '64 !

  • ok! so if i play clean i use the full power, if i like overdrive i use less watts. and it's a good looking amp. but if i buy it. i don't know anything about amps so maybe i buy a crap thing, where do i have to look at when i am going to try it?

  • It is a bit of a minefield, to be honest. If you aren't versed in fixing/maintaining valve amps, I would definately get a qualified tech to check it over.

The electrolytic filter caps could well need replacing - these parts are past their best after 10 years, let alone 45... Mine worked fine after 30 years of disuse but I changed them anyway cause I wanted to use it, not sell it.

The valves WILL need biasing properly - it was set at stupidly high current and not adjustable. Needed modifying

  • I should have first said - ! Do Not attempt to work on a valve amp if you're not fully qualified.

Absolutely lethal voltages are present at the valve sockets and in the large capacitors, even after being switched off, so please get a tech to look it over.

Don't let me put you off though. Tone Heaven is worth the effort! All old valve amps need care, thats all. My 70s Selmer has been a workhorse for 20 yrs.

In fact just get one of those, They're cheap and sound even better if I'm honest

  • Ahhhh that's much better, now i can see your mutton chops in High Quality!! boooyaaaa Sick playing as per usual Digger!

  • A very nice combo :)

  • ive got one of these, an old lady i used 2 work with was throwing out some stuff, and said she had an old amp i could have if i wanted, she came in work the next day with a mk1 truvoice treble and bass 50 head in mint condition, fully working, needless to say i did keep it!!

  • What is the song called ? are there tabs around for that ?

Looks like you had way too much coffee ;-)

Could you post a kind of presentation on the Selmer TB how each chanel sounds at different volumes. That'd be great

  • The tune is Scuttle Buttin' by Stevie Ray Vaughan. There are a few tabs out there for it.

I did think about giving a run down of this amp.. I Have 3 Selmers now - a 70's mkIV, a late-60's mkIII and now this 1963 mkI.

I use them with a power soak enabling me to crank them up into overdrive, which is where they sound greatest. I might try and do a comparison on here soon.

more coffe is in order, I think!

  • Do it! I have a Tn'B Mk III and I'd like to hear how all 3 of the sound at the same settings. I feel like the SS rectifier on the MK III keeps it from overdriving at low volume.

  • Seriously impressive...SRV would have been proud of you...Just for the record, this is [or was, apparently] my selmer amp., gruv's modifications notwithstanding..., so no prior claims acknowledged, whitehunter...!!!

  • Matey!! sounds like all the hard work has paid off big style!!! :-)

  • pop my guitar and amp back when youve finished breaking it in cheers. ha ha !!
