hey are you familiar with lightwave? im making a lightsaber for a school project and im having trouble making the saber part glow and all that stuff, if you or anyone else here can help me please do, thanks!
@Syn110 Select the object you DON'T want to be the "master" object (the one that, if you move - the other layer will) and then Shift+RMB (RMB = Right Mouse Button) the other object and then press Ctrl+P. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@Wireheadking hahaha thats because Minecraft rocks! And yeah, that would be great if you created a new tutorial about something cool with LEDs :P I am subbin' to you right now ;)
@angellobodj Thanks for subscribing :) I'll get on with the tutorial over the weekend. I have almost 5 tutorials that I'll be getting on with over the next few days.
@angellobodj I will! Thanks. Would you rather have a tutorial that will probably last 2 hours in 20 minute segments or just the entire tutorial all as one? I have a tutorial that is going to last ages and I can't figure out what people will like.
@Wireheadking Hmmm.. I dont know, but I usually prefer download entire video when it lasts more than 15-20 minutes.. I just downloaded this one too xD cause then I can collect them and watch them whenever I'm not connected to the net. So I'm not sure, if you want to watch it online maybe 20 min. segments, and if you gonna download it, 1 single segment with full video is more convenient i think...
I modelled the text by hand using a template I made in photoshop. Then I gave it a particle system, fiddled with the settings. Then I gave it an explode modifier. I then made another particle system to get all the little bits and set the render type to group and I made a group of little shards. I also made a transparent plane underneath the text for the collision. I could explan more but I have a character limit.
@tommycinema Haha, I'm glad you said that because I didn't really understand your last comment. I understood it was a compliment but I decided not to respond because all I could say is thanks.
But thanks for this comment. I will always make more tutorials :)
I tried once to learn how to use blender some time ago but gave up, and I just restarted with the new version, so even though I don't know much about it I think your tutorials are really good ( I made something that we could call a lightsaber, not that bad actually...) and should be viewed more ! I want to be a director, not much related to 3D (don't like it in cinema) but I really like it anyway, and your tutorials are really easy to understand, even for a beginner. I'm french by the way.
@Wireheadking you know you said on your channel you wanted to be a master of computers... I'm the same... I have learnt HTML a bit and I slight bit of JavaScript and some C . But I don't get java at all. Also, n00b question.. Is blender free and where do you get it ?
@miningmanic Hello there my colegue of computers :)
Yes, blender is indeed free :) You can get it from Blender.org. But be sure to check every once in a while for more updated versions as the latest one (2.5) is still in development. I am using 2.5 in this video. Hope this helps you out :) Happy blendering... or blending... or whatever the verb of using Blender is :D
Nice tutorial! I watched about 10 minutes of it and skipped through various parts. When you rendered the lightsaber you couldn't really see the handle that well because the background was black. Maybe it was just my dodgy iPod screen but yeah...
@RoastedMedia You are correct. The handle wasn't very clear. But, a little trick they do in movies like Star Wars is they get two of the lightsabers. One for the fighting (nice and strong) and one for the close ups / display (weak but good-looking). So the handle doesn't really mean much either way. Thanks for the comment though :)
Love your Lightsaber. Take your white glow in the center and make it a tight infused beam. By making your white glow thinner.
