Hello, great video, so clear. One question, but long question, you explained about the center of the home page being the "component", I have large green areas on either side of my main component. I have a purchased template, can I utilize the left and right spaces on either side of my main component to place new positions? If so, how do I do it, look for the "left" user position and place a new, named user position to the left of it? Thanks already. Lois -
@laketillerynews Hi Lois, I answered your email so check that out. Short answer: It doesn't look like your template has positions available for those areas but with some elbow grease you can make some.
Thank you -- this has been a great, I didn't realize how easy it would be to just add a module to the template. None of the other tutorials that I've watched have shown the modification/ maintenance side of Joomla . They all seem to be catering to just installing the template and custom plugins, modules, etc. Keep 'em coming Thanks again.
Great video, but I got lost somewhere with the codes thing. I want to create a rotating image of a size different than the banner size so that it appears right about all my articles.
@molaken Hey there. so you want it above your articles? or to the right of your articles?
If you just want an image showing above your article it sounds like what you need is the random image module where you can assign a specific width and height to the image right in the module. if it's smaller than the banner area it should be fine, if it's bigger you might have to adjust some css.
message me on here if you want to give me more details
Thank you very much, great guide m8... Im new to Joomla, and i was exactly looking how to do this because i cant find a template that fits my needs, and if i find one, it will cost me money. Thank you
Btw, how do you make your positions names show with yellow background/ :) Mine ones are white background and pink letters or in other words - sometimes I cant see what it says :P
@TheBlunt011 sorry i sometimes don't get notified of these comments so I don't get back right away. Anyway I wrote up a post about styling the menu positions on my site. I don't think I can post the link in these comments so I'll shoot you a message. thanks for watching!
Really good video thanks mate. People might want to try NinjaExplorer to edit the index.php file, it doesn't have a search feature but ok for occasional use. Thanks again
Great tutorial but i still don't get how to put 2 modules side by side horizontally if i follow your example they go inline vertically. any ideas? Maybe I am diong something wrong - I have messed around with CSS and the inline function but to no avail
@benbear1966 If you don't have spots set up automatically in your template, then you'll have to use the css "float" property to make them line up horizontally. I got your email so I'll respond there too.
@Hypertransitory I also want to know, how can i position a module next to my logo. I was trying it. But i just can position it above or below the logo. But how to place on the right side of the logo. Anyways, great tutorial. Thanks.
Your tutorial is great! You have explained in easy terms what even sites like Lynda.com could not. Keep up the good work!
Do you know if theres new way of adding the position to the position list so that I can just call it up from the position menu when I am placing another module from the back-end?
@verled5 well this is embarrassing, I never got any notification of your comment so I'm sorry to take so long to respond! I'm sure by now you probably found that you must add your position to the "templateDetails.xml" file that is placed in your "templates>YOUR TEMPLATE NAME" folder.
after doing this then the position will always be available from the pulldown list.
@Domo4eva Hey Domo4eva, sometimes when you have a specific template they may put all that stuff somewhere else. There might be a file called "template.php" or something similar.
If you still can't find it hit me up on my contact form on my site with details and I'll take a look.
Hey John, How can I change the size, height specifically of a module.

Hey I have a problem. there is very little code in my index file so I'm guessing to change the positions they are located elsewhere?
