The first time I saw RR I was BLOWN AWAY! His band is awesome and the music really comes to life when they play live. Walked past the autograph line line after show & said "Robert Randolph! your a badass mutherfucker!" and he said "Thank you very much brother." One cool cat.
Robert is one of the best musicians of his time. The man kills every song and an amazing pedal player. His live concerts are just incredible. Love this band
Especially when they pause and Robert give the audience the opportunity to finish with (...scuse me, while I kiss the sky! & ...that girl put spell on me!)
I discovered his "I Need More Love" on my "Media Center Edition" of XP (Kool!)
A steel guitar singing "Purple Haze", just like Jimi's Stratocaster....
@SSwadis I saw him on 4th july 2004, opening act for Clapton in Massachussets. He opened the concert with Purple Haze. I felt like I was about to explode on happiness. I have to admit that I didn't know him till that day. I was one of the first 20 people that bought his cd (strawberries) and we (me and my wife) got his autograph on the concert program and took pictures with him. Such a great guy!
i saw these guys live when they were warming up for the Allman Brothers band. That was an incredible show both by A.B.B. and Robert Randdolph & the family band
Every time I've seen these guys live, it's been amazing. You never know what they're gonna do. They love music so damn much, they could take you to church, to the 70's, to the the birth of blues and ragtime, God, you never know!
One show I saw, for their encore, they all did like, freakin' musical chairs with their instruments, AND THEY WERE JUST AS GOOD! Plus, they always get someone from the crowd to come up and play! Ain't nothin' wrong with that!
yyour in for a hell of a show, these were amazing and clapton jsut left me speechles afterwards, it was my first live music concert and i odnt think im ever gonna see one better!
I saw RR and Clapton in 2004. At the time I had no idea who they were, but they were awesome. For one song the entire RR band rotated instruments (in the middle of the song).
I just recently ran into this band and all I can say is, this man is BAD!!!!
HANDS DOWN!!!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
he is either a big fan of hendrix, or he is trying to show off by comparing his skills to the greatest guitarist of all time. maybe both...
not disrespecting him, just a thought,
lovebichix 2 years ago
Have you ever seen him in concert? Robert Randolph doesn't need to show off.. he's just taking Hendrix's song to a different place musically.

yea like when you do a cover, you don't really want to do it the exact same way cause thats bullshit.

@HippieBr I know people who have met him and they all say he's a really nice guy..

He harnesses this overdriven sound very cleanly, and that is VERY hard to do. He' has brought a different take to the instrument,
and while not as strong a player as some of the better old school players, yes tis true, but he has a completely different bag, which he has mastered.
I play steel and realize what he is doing, and liking this style from before I played, I can appreciate both sides of the arguments about him.
I wish him all successes into the future.
