@TideatMileHigh I don't know if you know this, but it is a retractable roof stadium. It's just that they keep it closed most of the time probably out of convenience for everyone because of the dry desert conditions.

I don't think ESPN can ruin the bowls, Fox is already doing a pretty good job of ruining it themselves. And I do think the BCS will be done away with at some point and a that a mini-playoff system will be installed.

Still I think there is a certain prestige that is lost when a bowl that was previously over the air gets bumped to cable, even if it is ESPN. The Cotton Bowl should have been up there with Rose, Sugar and Orange.

True. What I really meant is more that Fox is horrible than that ESPN should have them. CBS & ABC would be better for the major bowls than Fox. The announcers and game presentation on Fox is horrible imo.

The Bowl Alliance is the same idea as the current BCS, but didn't include the Rose Bowl. It guaranteed top 2 teams in nation to meet in an Alliance Bowl as long as it wasn't the Big 10 or Pac 10 Champ who would have to go to the Rose Bowl because they were not in on the agreement. In 98 current BCS was formed as the Rose Bowl finally agreed to let Big 10 Pac 10 champ to play in a now guaranteed 1 vs 2 championship game if needed and would rotate with the other BCS Bowls to host the champ game

the ill fated Bowl Alliance. I had almost forgotten that CBS had that deal for a couple of years that, if my memory serves did not include the Rose Bowl. I think that worked out as well for them as those few years they had the world series in the early 90's.
