  • Now, Andy Griffith there with Elvis...they should have done a two man comedy skit. Are those Korean subtitles?

  • How embarrassing! Elvis must still be in shock!!!

  • yes and who did make Elvis wear a tuxedo? while singing Hound Dog?

  • @Thissipit He, Steve, embarassed Elvis so much.

  • Thanks for sharing I love this...Elvis is so adorable in this.

  • Elvis is in great company here. When we got our first color TV, I always watched the Steve Allen Show that shown in black and white. Steverino is so talented, this silly sketch doesn't do him justice. Wow ! Imogene Coca from Your show of Shows and Mayberry's Sheriff Andy Griffith !

  • i read in a book that elvis hated this , it was said he found this to be embarrassing,

  • OMG... yes theres Elvis on the far right... wtf

  • Great footage.

    Thank you.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • AWWWWWWWWWWW ELVIS!!

  • Imogene wants more cowbell.

  • I grandpa, Papa Jeff, looked exactly like Andy Griffith when he was younger and even now!

  • And Andy Griffith on the left with Imogene Coca

  • And Andy Grifith on the left with Imogene Coca

  • Steve Allen was 6 foot 3 according to film bug/c o m and Elvis was 5 foot 11.75 according to army records. When they stand side by side Elvis is 3 inches shorter and they both wear low heel shoes. Elvis would appear almost 6'-foot 2" on stage.

  • THis sketch is utter crap

  • The lawyer show with Raymond Burr was Perry Mason, and he matched wits every week with prosecutor Hamilton Berger. As for my knowledge of Elvis, I'm an Elvis Tribute Artist, and we feel it's important to know as much about our subject as possible.

  • Actually singing to the dog in the tux was a joke, aimed at the fact that certain people thought his dancing was too risque, thus forcing him to be filmed only above the waist in his next appearance. From what I understand Elvis got a kick out of the joke.

  • thats Andy Griffin on the left and Elivis on the right.

  • @rickserafino yes!! that's what freaked me out the most! it's andy griffith before he was andy griffith!! i was only about a year old when this came out and thus, never saw this before! what a treat!!! (rattlesnake griffith) and imogne coca according to KRCreech.

  • Not only is Elvis Presley (Tumbleweed Presley) in here, it's Andy Griffith on the left (Rattlesnake Griffith) and Imogene Coca (Cactus Coca).

  • I cant see his face, but I can recognize his movements! I Love you Elvis!!!

  • isnt the other guy on the left Andy Griffith??? i think it is

  • And that comment about Elvis not writing or prducing his own muic. He was an interpreter, like Sinatra, Como and Bennett. No one got on their case about not writing music. Elvis never had a chance to write anyway between the movies being shoved down his throat and thw whirlwind concert tours. BUt, he did do much of the arranging of the music for the concerts, including cramming three songs into one medley so he could do more numbers.

  • @kidgalahad55 well you seem to know a lot about elvis, tell me if i'm right, because i was only 3 in 1957, but wasn't the bugs bunny show first on in prime time? because i remember it being dark outside the very first time my mom set me down to watch it. then after wards oh what was the name of the famous lawyer show? damn. raymond burr? remember? that show would have come on at 8 or 9. so bugs must have been on at 7pm remember??

  • Second, Elvis was a blonde, born blonde. He saw a movie with Tony Cirtis and liked him a lot (Elvis always wanted to be a serious actor, and admired both James Dean and Marlon Brando, and befriended Nick Adams, who starred with Dean in Rebel Without A Cause. That's also how Elvis met Natalie Wood, who he dated a couple of times). With Curtis as inspiration, E dyed his hair black.

Finally, did anyone notice that Rattlesnake in the skit is actually Andy Griffith?

  • @kidgalahad55 i did! i did!!! that's what freaked me out the most! ole andy griffith before he was andy griffith!!! what a treat this was!!! wow! i am so stoked right now!! i always thought he was natural black, i didn't know. and didn't he start his singing in church? as a gospel singer?

  • I se a lot of misconceptions here, and don' have time to read all the comments to see who got them right. First of all, this is an early Elvis television appearance on the Steve Allen Show, and was pre-Ed Sullivan. He did sing in another portion of this show, and did a duet with Steve Allen.

  • @kidgalahad55 yes and who was the one who made Elvis sing a song to a dog...wearing a tuxedo...the dog and Elvis too. But heyyy....who made it such fun and who came out ahead? 34 years after Elvis is still the best ever.

  • It makes me cringe to see Elvis in a cowboy hat,and outfit. He doesn't fit in.He doesn't seem comfortable.WHY,OH WHY?!

  • this can't be elvis.elvis was blonde...

  • @acmulhern ....-__- God have mercy. Elvis dyed his hair black! How can you not know this?!

  • @InvaderSak yeah, but this is him as a child, i doubt that he died it back then. if you watch his early videos as a performer you can clearly see that he was blonde. the reason why he died it was that many people thought that his hair was black due to the bad quality of the black and white image, which is the reason why he died it dark in the 1st place

  • @acmulhern OH MY GOSH! YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ELVIS!!!!!!!!!! Elvis dyed his hair black because he wanted to be like a famous actor who had black black hair! Learn your Elvis stuff before you say stupidities like that you idiot!

  • @InvaderSak how sad are you? why call me an idiot, that's just rude and offensive. and if you're mentionning intellect, you will know that there is no such thing as black black. there's the colour black and you can't have anything blacker than black, because it will still only just be black...

  • @InvaderSak omg..... elvis had blonde hair when he was a KID, then his hair was light brown... like on this VID. He didnt die his hair jet black until after the movie "love me tender"

  • Is that the guys who plays Andy Griffith on the left?Or was his name AG?Thanks

  • @yogi1707 Sure is, also Matlock

  • lol I love elvis as much as anyone BUT this wasnt even good ELVIS HATED IT!! ------>The Steve Allen Show," all Steve Allen was doing was mocking the sensation of the Berle appearance by having Elvis dress in a tuxedo, and sing Hound Dog to a Basset Hound!!! Steve Allen HATED ROCK N ROLL!!!!! as he did ELVIS and his rockin roll ways Elvis was on Stage Show hosted by Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey Then The Milton Berle Show.....B4 Steve Allen Show....

  • Also..Andy Griffin...

  • I have this video also and many other rare. Its great! I love his cute sarcasm :) thanks for posting!

  • I had to come back...this was FUNNY!!!! "Tonto" Bar....lol

  • That was Elvis!!! Listen to his voice...Anyway, this skit was FUNNY!! I recognized Steve Allen, Andy Griffth, and Elvis but who was the woman?

  • @dlastqueen Not sure of the spelling, but that is Imogene Coca.

  • @dlastqueen That was Imogene Coca (1908 - 2001) - one of the most hilarious and multitalented comediennes of the 20th century.

  • I think Elvis just wanted this job over as soon as possible!

  • @Dblwayne no, if you pay close attention to him he's actually having fun. He's just acting.

  • He is Not Elvis please... This Man is a dwarf... is not Elvis...

  • @nerio123 dude i HAVE THIS VIDEO ON A CD! it IS Elvis! Obviously YOU dont know anything about Elvis, trust me im only 17 but im an Elvis expert. it IS Elvis!

  • @InvaderSak Is this Elvis Costello?

  • @dahoss65 ..no this is Elvis PRESLEY. The only Elvis who deserves the name Elvis.

  • @InvaderSak Hmmm. This may be an Elvis impersonator, but it definately isnt the REAL Elvis. Why would the REAL Elvis stand off to the side while some bozo does most of the singing? The REAL Elvis would have been center stage doing the singing.

  • @dahoss65 um no, this IS Elvis. It looks blurry here. You guys are just getting annoying, IT IS ELVIS! I REPEAT I HAVE THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:( This is when Elvis was not so famous just yet! He was barely starting off his famous career. NO ELVIS IMPERSONATOR NO NOTHING. ITS ELVIS! Geez!

  • This is so good -loaded with cliche's !

  • They sure put Elvis through some crap on USA TV in the 50s.

    Thank God for '68.

  • I don't understand half of what he's saying T__T And I get ten in english -__-' Oh well it is american so guess I just don't understand the little diffrent accent :/

  • hey SuperGamerboy. Elvis born be shy in his childhood

  • SuperGamerboy. Elvis born be shy in his childhood

  • what yr was this? anyone know?

  • wow... steve allen, andy griffith, imogene coca, and elvis presley on one stage together... definitely the golden age of television.

  • the fucking gooks are so obsessed with americans

  • Emma Jean Coca, Andy Griffth, Elvis Presley and Steve Allen

  • Beautiful capture of Red Necks...but E kept his cool

  • the name of that chord is E7#9sus4

    they are so nervous

  • FYI: the other cowboy is Andy Griffith.

  • So cool!

  • So how tall was Elvis ? 6' 2" as was commonly communicated ? Or, 5' 11" as according to Albert Goldman ? He looks pretty short here, when he's not up front, all by himself.

  • @JSavic he was 6'0" he does look pretty short :) it may be the outfit that makes him look a little wider than he is, but in most vids he looks pretty tall :)

  • This is great!

  • probably the only time ever that Elvis had to perform a "comedy" sketch, but Steve Allen liked to involve his guests that way. Maybe Elvis wasn't aware then that Allen was one of the most outspoken rock & roll haters, and probably had Elvis on there just to mock him.

  • @rickis58 remember when steve allen made him sing to a basset hound?

  • I loved that. Swweeeett!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is that steve allen there ..??

  • Is this the show that Woody starred in?

  • OMG! LOL

  • Andy Griffith, Imogene Coca, Steve Allen, and Elvis doing...something.

  • cuz every man on or ranch is a big sissy,,,,, hahahahahaha

  • hehehe little did they know a hurricane was brewin!!!

  • Andy Griffith and Elvis Presley together! And the ultra-ubiquitous Imogene Coca. Too bad Steve Allen wouldn't get out of their way. Wish Griffith and Presley could've sung a duet.

  • at the end...blue seude shoes...yeah!

  • Steve Allen, Elvis Presley, Andy Griffith and, who's that girl??

  • What year was this?

  • Early Andy griffith as well.

  • Rare??

    I had this 1989.

  • Looked like they didn't take themselves so seriously and just had a lot of fun.

Steve Allen by the way could go from something like this take -off to playing jazz piano in the background while Jack Kerouak read his poetry.

I think it was the times. War was over. Things were breaking out, a new era had begun.

  • man they sure idolized the wild west, and totally whitewashed the whole, you know, land grab and genocide.

  • Yeh what ever happened to good television??? No wonder we are breeding mindless wonder children. When the world finally does go to the crapper none of them will be able to survive without their ipods and such.

  • Oh my god. who knew. The boy who would be King. Excellent.

  • How rare can it be? Its right here on youtube!

  • Tonto = Spanish for "fool".

    great vid.

  • WOW..in all the years I have known Elvis, I have NEVER seen this video. It is AWESOME!! Even then Elvis had his moves!! Thanks for sharing.

  • i wonder what elvis ratings would be if elvis were alive and had a reality show lol

  • Mannnnnnnn!!!!!!

I wonder Elvis was thinking during this segment? But it looks like he took it in stride.

All I can say is "My Boy, My Boy!!!"

  • The Steve Allen Show with Andy Griffith, Imogene Coca, Steve Allen, Elvis Presley

  • Left to Right: Andy Griffith, Imogene Coca, Steve Allen, and Elvis Presley.

  • so long ago.. so what if he died a drug addict? that short life was worth because he had made otheres happy through his music (though he slowly got bored wiht his own music). its better than living a long lonely life.

  • just like being on Hee Haw or Saturday Night Live. Ya just go with it...I Love this clip.

  • everyone one this stage was a big star. notice Andy Griffith one the left? Steve allen knew tallent when he saw it. and he knew what people like to hear back then. Elvis bought his parents a new house by being on this stage.

  • The Ultimately sad & pathetic fact that this video proves [as if anyone who has read about Elvis Presley & reflected on his early years as a performer] --- Elvis was just another share-cropper on the Plantation]. Elvis had no pretensions of being a recording artist. He cared nothing - THEN -- about what he sang or what the songs meant.. He was a just another singer who got lucky [he thought] hit it Big. That he died as a drug addict & destroyed his family? Elvis could not have cared less.

  • @tomthumbtoo

You know nothing about Elvis, clearly.

  • When TV was good. All we got now are stinking cop and reality shows. Sigh!

  • @Ragrog105 STEVE ALLEN was embarrassing and silly. NOT FUNNY. LIKE DAVID LETTERMAN "dumb"

  • @Ragrog105 lol how old are you.... certainly too old to be commenting on youtube videos

people like you are so incredibly stupid because you cant see that it's all subjective and in fact tv has gotten much better you are just old and set in your ways. And Lost is on tonight and don't you dare tell me that is a shit show

  • @frylock48 How old am I? Well over 40 years ago I was spilling my blood on foreign soil so snot nosed little boys like you could say shit like this. And I do mean BOY. Lost? Bwahahaha. You fucking mental reject little piss ant. Too old? Come to Milwaukee LITTLE BOY. I eat cowards like you for a snack. Parasites like you are a fucking dime a dozen. You are nothing but bottom feeding scum. You ARE a spoiled little BOY, and your comment more than proves that. Fuck you you fucking fuck.

  • @frylock48 And I saw your channel, What a fucking joke. Not even one video posted. Yeah, you are an expert alright. Once again little boy, fuck you you fucking fuck, I'm calling you out, little boy. Or should I say, big chicken shit COWARD. You're a fucking sorry excuse for YouTuber, you stinking scumbag noobie. 19 years old? Bwahahaha, Nothing but a LITTLE BOY. I repeat, I'm calling you out.

  • @frylock48 who said, "lol how old are you.... certainly too old to be commenting on youtube videos".

I take offence at that, frylock.

Since when is there an age limit for commenting on YouTube? Actually a lower age limit isn't a bad idea now you mention it... get rid of some of them pesky kids.

  • @Ragrog105 This is good TV?

  • @visaman yes it is good TV. not the shit thats out now a days.

  • @Ragrog105

  • This isn't rare.

Elvis did this at the same time when he sung "Hound dog" in tuxedo for that dog (The dog with that hat). Why did he do this? Because there was sooo much commotion for hi's performence of "Hound dog" at "the Milton berle show"

  • this is the tonight show steve allen was the first host

  • That's why god send us ELVIS to stop this boring "Yipiyahey" Hillbilly Country stuff ;), ROCKABILLY RULES! MONEY HONEY!

  • This is so Wonderful too see Elvis in his Prime ! They are all so young..But Elvis always shines through no matter where !

100* for this Great rare vid !

    Thanks for posting gfgfm..

  • I was 5 years old in July 55 when I saw Andy Griffth and Elvis in Tampa Fl.

  • Andy and Elvis. This is great. I Never though I would see them together.

  • If "Steve Allen was a prick" it's okay because Elvis had the last laugh. He got to blow Steve Allen off as unimportant soon after when everyone competed to get Elvis on their shows.

  • Andy Griffith show started in 1960. In the first year of the Andy show he based his character loosely on this character here.

  • yea thats elvis

  • OMG...thats Andy Griffith at 3:49. Andy didnt start the Andy Griffith show until 1961.....Andy and Elvis...what a trip !

  • Fantastic footage!!! thanks for posting.

  • Haha, this is great even if elvis wasnt in it.

  • Steve Allen was a prick. He did nothing but try to humiliate Elvis on this show.

Scotty Moore said they were all so pissed for a week after the dog skit.

  • Relax - it was 50 years ago and it didnt exactly hurt Elvis' career in the long run, did it? In fact, he probably benefited from the criticism, made him more interesting.

Steve Allen is very funny here, enjoy it for it is.

  • @Pippin76 HOW THE HELL DO YOU FEEL ALLEN IS FUNNY. YOU MUST BE ONE GOOFY SOB YOURSELF. STEVE ALLEN WAS EMBARRASSING. LIKE HE WAS "LAUGHING INSIDE" AT OUR STUPIDITY FOR FALLING FOR HIS CRAP" him and JERRY LEWIS TOO

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 You're mighty angry for a 70-year-old, no?

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 WTF everybody is a critic. What is it to you if someone enjoys steve allen?

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 your are one parnoid mofo mojo.laughing inside at u what a smuck

  • Hello out there in television land...

    Love it!!

(never thought I'd see Andy Griffith and Elvis Presley together on stage before!!)

  • Steve Allen didn't like Elvis. He tried to make Elvis look like a fool. But it's Steven Allen that time has proven is the fool.

  • My god, this is brilliant. thanks for posting.

  • Andy Griffith, the woman who played Aunt Edna on National Lampoons Vacation, and Elvis. I don't have a clue who the guy with the glasses is.

  • SWEET!

  • HD :)

  • Andy Griffith, Imogene Coca, Steve Allen

and 21 year old Elvis Aron Presley.

What a treasure. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us.

    TJ

  • Tumbleweed Presley! Too cute. Love the way you can see his hips twitching at 5:47

  • Priceless! Before executing the move that brings his knees closer together, Elvis drops his head down to initiate the move in his inimitable style, bang on cue to the beat.

  • tv producers tryed to put down EP with this program

  • Wow-I've been a FANatic for life and I've NEVER seen this before. THANKS SOOO much.

  • Watching TV back then must have been bad for the eyes. What kind of focus is that?

  • I have this on DVD and it looks clearer than it does here!

  • Holy cow, I think I remember this! Love Imogene, she was wonderful. What a find Thanks so much.

  • i love this clip since i saw it long time ago... thanks for sharing it

  • Very funny although I kinda need a trnslation fro part of it as the Southern accent is strong. A great find.

  • This was a very cute video. Thanks for sharing it.

  • HELLO THERE IN TELEVISION LAND

  • Extremely low def tv ! Good upload...

  • Did you recognize the other cowboy?...its Andy Griffith no less!
