you did watch the video right. There absentee ballots were REJECTED. Now think before you say something. Its sad really most REP. on the internet dont know wat they really are talking about half the time and result to name calling and lies about the DEM. lol
Always baffles me that our country as great and advanced as it is still has problems counting ballots, or doing the right thing after it makes an obvious mistake in counting.
Well...why am I not surprised? Voter fraud is as inherently Republican as apple pie is American. When are Democrats going to stand up to the Republican shenanigans?
We need to hear a statement from Obama saying something like "The pillar of democracy is elections with honesty and integrity. Absentee ballots must be counted." That would do it. That would probably put a stop to the Republican dirty tricks. But I don't know if Obama is really the fighter we all thought he was.
Paid actors every one of them, Al the Turd needs to come to grips with the fact he is so unelectable he wasn't able to latch unto Obama's CHANGE train and hitch a ride to DC, in a landslide DNC election he lost to a crook hahaha. FAIL! I predict he is gonna call a conference and pull a "Bud Dwyer"
Finally if you are too stupid to follow simple directions perhaps you are doing democracy a favor by having your vote kicked out.
Looks like Coleman is trying to pull a GEORGE BUSH and illegally propel himself into the Senate...every vote needs to be counted, and all the stupid Republicans who don't agree must not care about their country as much as they profess!
Democrats are tired of Republicans stealing close elections. Every time it's within a few thousand, votes start mysteriously disappearing. We're going to stand up to your dirty tricks from now on.
Republicans are tired of Democrats crying "fraud!" whenever they lose a close election. Everytime it's within a few thousand, voters start claiming some vast right wing conspiracy. We're sick of this victim mentality.
i dont feel its a vast right wing conspiracy, sadly there are enough suckers out there to still vote for the republican party after eight years of bush. if you are very rich, it makes sense, if not, you are being played by someone more clever than yourself.
That sucks for the people this happened to. But unless these rejections can be shown to be specifically targeted at one particular group or demographic (like in Florida in 2000) there's no reason to suggest that it would change the result.
When the number of ballots being rejected is more than three times the margin of votes between the candidates, there's no reason to believe it WOULDN'T change the result. With small numbers like this, you don't need structural biases to change the outcome. Random chance does it just fine enough.
when the difference is as small of a percentage as it is, the law of large numbers does not apply. a random error could change the outcome of the election.
Of course the rejections can be shown to be specifically targeted at a particular group. They're targeted at "absentee voters". Democrats got a higher portion of the vote in absentee ballots than on Election Day, generally.
now thats a REP. thinking (at least i think you are) but yea at least some of you can at least come up with a better reason the "OH AL is calling it a dirty trick because he lost"
(If your are a DEM. then sorry bout calling you a REP.)
Votes aren't counted every election! Is it right? No, but it happens. I am sick of both campaigns challenging every other ballot! As a republican I am disappointed in how this election has played out on both side but I still hope Coleman wins because I believe checks and balances are healthy. And some words of wisdom Democrats... start putting electable people on your ballots. You all got yourselves into this mess. This would have been a piece of cake for ANY OTHER democrat to win!
Six more votes . . . still not enough! I think it is disgusting that Franken is pimping these people. What's the point? The election is over and now the courts will decide if the rejected absentee ballots will be rejected. In addition, Franken fails to acknowledge that there are probably an equal amount of improperly rejected absentee ballots favoring Coleman. I guess Franken will be asking the courts to only count the rejected ballots favoring him.
For every example of a vote for Franken that is not counted as shown in this video there is just as many for Coleman. Are we really supposed to believe that all the errors were only Deomocratic votes. This is grandstanding at its very worst. He may be a comedian in real life but in this case the joke is on him.
I'm from MN, so I'm close to this matter (geographically speaking.) People can say what they want to about how dumb certain people are, or whatever, but there are laws in MN called "Voters Intent Laws" (which I don't entirely agree with.) in a state where some idiot who can't fill out the ballot correctly can get their vote counted, then these people should too. Especially in this situation, where we can clearly see the intent of the voters.
If the Republicans could bring back poll taxes they would. Al Franken should fight this all the way to the supreme court where Justice Clearance Thomas can save the election for his buddies again.
Hey Pat, give up trying to steal the Minnesota senate race. Scumbag Harry Reid won't help you because you don't matter any more. Step aside and then go away forever you ugly failure.
Don't worry Franken supports. I'm sure your Democrat Secretary of State will continue to do recounts and print, er, I mean FIND, ballots int he back seats of cars until Franken wins. Doncha know that the Democrat way, you becha!
If the Franken campaign reps had come to my door asking how I voted I would have kicked their butts across my lawn. Shame on the judge who even released these records in the first place.
Wow how wonderful we have those fascists GOP who wants throwing away the votes. Shame to them for blocking Bailout Auto bill. I hope they will go to jail and will learn the lesson.
Getting rid of this cancer of Conservatism will be tough. Coleman was for all practical purposes Ted Stevens' errand boy, yet the Conservative, Kool-Aid drinking Michele Bachmann voter types, prefer to overlook things like this.
but if he got the most votes?.... I guess, um, what's your point. The point of this video is that votes are not being counted. Your point seems to affirm the importance of campaigning for Franken. Is that particular to Franken?
Did you watch the video? The people in the video, along with the 62 people that Franken has affidavit from had their absentee ballots rejected, because a Minnesota election employee made a mistake. The voters did know how to vote and properly voted according to the rules, but because some employee screwed up, and made a mistake their ballot was rejected. Apparently, like Coleman you don't believe properly cast absentee ballots shouldn't be counted if a state employee made a mistake! Amazing!
Not having a driver's license because you are disabled is "not knowing how to vote"...? Your arrogance is showing, and nearly eclipsing your ignorance.
As a Minnesotan (whose vote--I believe--was counted), I'm appalled that any of this has happened. In the Star Tribune, Coleman's campaign is quoted as calling the posting of this video by the Franken Campaign as "a new low." I can't even fathom what the Coleman people think they mean. Hurrah for Franken for fighting with youtube fire. Pass this link around! And get this: Coleman is being investigated by the FBI for taking $100,000 in inappropriate gifts. He could end up in jail.
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."
- Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948
Well it better hurry up because this country is still full of brainwashed right-wing nutcases who think that socialism is some sort of evil. Even with a moderate President-elect, America seems more right-wing and filled with Neo-Nazi attitudes towards treatment of the middle class than ever. A lot of very socialized societies are experiencing economic growth and prosperity far greater than the US. It's not a new trend and it's an established statistical fact that is beyond opinion.
Yes properly cast absentee votes are rejected by mistake on a small scale in every election. In most elections the vote difference for a state wide race far exceeds the total number of all rejected absentee ballots, making it no harm no foul. However, here the total # of rejected ballots (both proper and improperly rejected absentee ballots) is 56 times greater than the vote margin between the candidates. Only someone whose afraid he'd lose would oppose counting legal ballots
More Coleman votes were thrown out then Franken votes and he's still ahead. I, and millions of people could vote just fine. If you are tossed out, there's probably a good reason so shut your F@#king mouths!
It was bad enough that we elected a all-star wrestler as a Gov.... Please for the love of god don't let bad comedian steal this election! We are finally not the laughing stock of the nation any more now that Jessie is in Mex. This would me 10 times worse!
Keep fighting Al! The Rethuglicans stole the election in 2000 leading to an attack on our nation, a war of choice, torture in our name, and financial disaster. Keep fighting!!!
Al Franken exploitation at its best. Trying to exploit the weak to get the canvassing board on your side. What a sham. Hey Al did you find any Coleman voters that wanted to be part of this video or was it just one sided?
this video is one of the reason why a)we all have to vote and b)never let an election be a close election. 'Cause close elections are waste of time and money. For the candidates, the state and, ultimately, our country. I hope every is aware of that now and will never ever let it happen again.
Will Al defend the rights of those who had their absentee ballot rejected regardless of who they voted for? Like every other Democrat, he wants every vote to count so long as that vote was for a Democrat. His politicking after the election is rather shameful when his bias is so obvious. Franken lovers: please feel free to assail my comments. You'll be talking to yourselves as I will not be coming back to this page. Peace!
Given the corruption that appears to be coming to light in the other persons campaign finances, it is extremely important that that ALL votes count. This is truly becoming another state such as Illinois if we allow this corruption in with election officials rejecting votes because the voter did not vote for "their" candidate.
Not every vote counts... Every legit vote counts. This notion that any ballot sent to election officials should be counted is absurd. If Franken got enough VALID votes then he is fine... if he is looking for a way to count invalid votes then there is something wrong with him.
Your lack of skills & brains to complete a ballot, indicates your choice of the people who should be our leaders isn't an "intelligent" one. Maybe we should IQ test to determine abilities to make a thoughtful, intelligent, independent choice. Emphasis on "independent" - how easily manipulated would someone can be if he/she is not capable of following directions for completing a ballot? Really, how much intelligence is required to follow simple instructions for filling out your ballot?
how can any vote be thrown out? republicans hate it when everyone votes...coleman in office only because of a plane crash..norm you are no paul wellstone
Except now Franken doesn't want ALL the votes to be counted, only the ones that favor him. Of the 6000+ absentee ballots rejected 55-60% are for Coleman. So now Big Al only wants the absentee ballots for him to count. That's Democracy?
It's my understanding that the rejected absentee ballots have not been opened, so we really don't know who they favor, and neither do the candidates. But apparently they both believe those ballots will favor Franken, or Franken wouldn't be working so hard to get them counted, nor Coleman to get them excluded.
I can't wait to have Franken as my Senator. If by some fluke (God forbid) that does not happen, than so be it. We Minnesotans will work forward to create the promise and dream that Franken, Wellstone and so many others stand and stood for. The truth shall set us free. The truth is free.
captkirk999, you act like there's no difference between not believing election fraud happened, and committing it. If fraud happened to Ken Blackwell or Tim Griffin, that would be karma.
Working on a campaign during election day is not a valid reason for getting an absentee ballot by state law...so boo hoo to you maam. Maybe you should have check your mare Mary Legris! Al Franken is disgusting!!!
As a voter in Minnesota, I don't know that I will ever be able to look at the results of this election and not see fraud and disenfranchisement for all parties represented in this election. The voters are being screwed; Mr. Coleman, Mr. Barkley and Mr. Franken are being screwed around and I would really like to have some explanation as to why some election officials are so unprofessional about something as important as our democracy. All in all .. it is just pissing me off.
So Franken is demanding that the law be ignored and votes be counted that were not properly cast. Nobody is "arbitrarily" discarding ballots. How stupid can these people be if they can't even cast a vote a vote properly they shouldn't be allowed to vote in the first place. This is a transparent attempt to steal the election. Why have rules if you don't follow them? Let YouTube decide who wins, izzat right?
If you actually *watched* the video, you'd know that they weren't arbitrarily discarding ballots, they were mistakenly rejecting the absentee ballots - and I can understand a thousand ballots being handled mistakenly out of 2.9 million at the end of a long 14-hour day for election Judges. No one's trying to steal this election. This is just MN State Law playing itself out.
Why can't any state let people with the proof their votes were incorrectly rejected challenge the error and have their ballot counted? What would that take, 2 minutes per ballot? Come on, what is the big deal here? That is the least a democracy should be capable of doing. Rejecting the corrections is like....Burocratic ANARCHY !
Doesn't matter if they were arbitrarily discarded or not. If you are an American citizen, and vote properly, there is no possible explanation or reasoning as to why your vote wouldn't count.
Quit whinning. If you are so retarded that you can't correctly fill in a small circle on a ballot, you shouldn't be allowed to vote. There was an election. Coleman won. There was a recount. Coleman one. Period.
Franken will just sue until he generates enough illegal (these votes were rejected for a reason folks) votes to win. If you can't win fairly, just cheat and sue until you do.
Cory089 "Franken will just sue until he generates enough illegal (these votes were rejected for a reason folks) votes to win. If you can't win fairly, just cheat and sue until you do
if you had opened your backwards-idealogical eyes for a second you'd know that it's Norm Coleman who always SUES FIRST! And he never wins bc they are usually frivolous actions based on greed. Franken is in the race to change policy & the culturee in D.C. Norm is in politics to make money, like most Republican'ts
Dear Al campaign. Thanks for putting these folks on YouTube. This video demonstrates why fairness and deliberation are exremely important during this stage of the recount they have been from the beginning.
Check out "The Real Al Franken" video also on YouTube.
Al will fight for every vote, as long as they are votes for him. If he cared about the "Voters" like he pretends, he would support voters that didnt make the mistake of voting for him with the same zest. He is a fraud.
Well IcyKitty, let me give a little lesson on absentee ballots. The voter fills out the absentee ballot and puts it into Envelope A. On the outside of this envelope the voter enters his or her identifying information and signs it confirming that this was the voter intent. A witness would also sign this envelope. Then Envelope A is inserted into Envelope B, which is then sent to the appropriate election office.
Maybe do a little research next time . . . just a thought
deuce4224, maybe you should read a little more carefully next time, and be a little less condescending. IcyKitty simply said she would NEVER put her driver's license number on the outside of her envelope. I also voted absentee and didn't put my driver's license number on the outside of my envelope, either.
If these complainers had voted before - they would know to do all this!! I've heard people say that they were turned away by Repubs at the polling place - so they could not vote. EVERY polling place has people that take your name/vote by the Party you say you are! In other words - Dems DO NOT take the votes of people who are Repubs and Repubs don't take Dem votes. Your OWN party takes your vote! So if your vote was not counted - either YOU or Your party election judge messed up your vote!
Clearly you might be the one lacking the brain power. Maybe you are not familiar but thousands of idiots incorrectly filled out voting ballots. How you could look at the morons who could follow direction and then ask that question proves you are not paying attention.
WOW...the world's first "Whinefomercial"!!

You are right. It is baffling.
However, we have done such without rioting in the streets or violence: see Kenya, Zimbabwe, Greece, Thailand, etc. ... and the list can go on.

That sucks for the people this happened to. But unless these rejections can be shown to be specifically targeted at one particular group or demographic (like in Florida in 2000) there's no reason to suggest that it would change the result.
freemind13 3 years ago
When the number of ballots being rejected is more than three times the margin of votes between the candidates, there's no reason to believe it WOULDN'T change the result. With small numbers like this, you don't need structural biases to change the outcome. Random chance does it just fine enough.
ostroffj 3 years ago
when the difference is as small of a percentage as it is, the law of large numbers does not apply. a random error could change the outcome of the election.
Philq02 3 years ago
Of course the rejections can be shown to be specifically targeted at a particular group. They're targeted at "absentee voters". Democrats got a higher portion of the vote in absentee ballots than on Election Day, generally.

This would have been a piece of cake for ANY OTHER democrat to win!
laker6690 3 years ago
Six more votes . . . still not enough! I think it is disgusting that Franken is pimping these people. What's the point? The election is over and now the courts will decide if the rejected absentee ballots will be rejected. In addition, Franken fails to acknowledge that there are probably an equal amount of improperly rejected absentee ballots favoring Coleman. I guess Franken will be asking the courts to only count the rejected ballots favoring him.
jpmitchell333 3 years ago
For every example of a vote for Franken that is not counted as shown in this video there is just as many for Coleman. Are we really supposed to believe that all the errors were only Deomocratic votes. This is grandstanding at its very worst. He may be a comedian in real life but in this case the joke is on him.
alwaysbmeyer 3 years ago
I'm from MN, so I'm close to this matter (geographically speaking.) People can say what they want to about how dumb certain people are, or whatever, but there are laws in MN called "Voters Intent Laws" (which I don't entirely agree with.) in a state where some idiot who can't fill out the ballot correctly can get their vote counted, then these people should too. Especially in this situation, where we can clearly see the intent of the voters.

because the rules provide that every vote has the right to be counted unless it somehow violates state law.
BristolPalinsBabyDad 3 years ago
Did you watch the video? The people in the video, along with the 62 people that Franken has affidavit from had their absentee ballots rejected, because a Minnesota election employee made a mistake. The voters did know how to vote and properly voted according to the rules, but because some employee screwed up, and made a mistake their ballot was rejected. Apparently, like Coleman you don't believe properly cast absentee ballots shouldn't be counted if a state employee made a mistake! Amazing!

Only someone whose afraid he'd lose would oppose counting legal ballots

bobhardball 3 years ago
Will Al defend the rights of those who had their absentee ballot rejected regardless of who they voted for? Like every other Democrat, he wants every vote to count so long as that vote was for a Democrat. His politicking after the election is rather shameful when his bias is so obvious. Given the corruption that appears to be coming to light in the other persons campaign finances, it is extremely important that that ALL votes count. This is truly becoming another state such as Illinois if we allow this corruption in with election officials rejecting votes because the voter did not vote for "their" candidate.
MsMoppet 3 years ago 4
Not every vote counts... Every legit vote counts. This notion that any ballot sent to election officials should be counted is absurd. If Franken got enough VALID votes then he is fine... if he is looking for a way to count invalid votes then there is something wrong with him.
UWBADGER1 3 years ago
Your lack of skills & brains to complete a ballot, indicates your choice of the people who should be our leaders isn't an "intelligent" one. Maybe we should IQ test to determine abilities to make a thoughtful, intelligent, independent choice. Emphasis on "independent" - how easily manipulated would someone can be if he/she is not capable of following directions for completing a ballot? Really, how much intelligence is required to follow simple instructions for filling out your ballot?

Except now Franken doesn't want ALL the votes to be counted, only the ones that favor him. Of the 6000+ absentee ballots rejected 55-60% are for Coleman. So now Big Al only wants the absentee ballots for him to count. That's Democracy?
RPMenefee 3 years ago
It's my understanding that the rejected absentee ballots have not been opened, so we really don't know who they favor, and neither do the candidates. But apparently they both believe those ballots will favor Franken, or Franken wouldn't be working so hard to get them counted, nor Coleman to get them excluded.

DaMav 3 years ago
If you actually *watched* the video, you'd know that they weren't arbitrarily discarding ballots, they were mistakenly rejecting the absentee ballots - and I can understand a thousand ballots being handled mistakenly out of 2.9 million at the end of a long 14-hour day for election Judges. No one's trying to steal this election. This is just MN State Law playing itself out.
schmoo2x 3 years ago 4
Why can't any state let people with the proof their votes were incorrectly rejected challenge the error and have their ballot counted? What would that take, 2 minutes per ballot? Come on, what is the big deal here? That is the least a democracy should be capable of doing. Rejecting the corrections is like....Burocratic ANARCHY !
VJnumber1 3 years ago
Doesn't matter if they were arbitrarily discarded or not. If you are an American citizen, and vote properly, there is no possible explanation or reasoning as to why your vote wouldn't count.

Every vote counts and should be counted. Keep up the good fight Mr Franken...
IcyKitty 3 years ago
Well IcyKitty, let me give a little lesson on absentee ballots. The voter fills out the absentee ballot and puts it into Envelope A. On the outside of this envelope the voter enters his or her identifying information and signs it confirming that this was the voter intent. A witness would also sign this envelope. Then Envelope A is inserted into Envelope B, which is then sent to the appropriate election office.
Maybe do a little research next time . . . just a thought
