Ah classic!TFI friday was a great show, slipknot, napalm death, at the drive in, faith no more etc etc when would you see any similar bands on primetime tv now?sad really with all this
he's a funny guy is our Chris..he didnt get the song name wrong it's just usually ppl with no sence of FUCKING HUMOUR! I actually remember this and taped it too but dont think i have the tape now..i remember being sooo fucking excited though. I'm in a metal band myself now...who'd a thunk
I was at that gig in Portsmouth!! Got hit in the head with the arm of a chair thrown from the balcony while the crowd chanted 'Fuck You' waiting for the band to appear!!
Big respect for Chris Evans giving Slipknot genuine props when many others in his position would've just made a joke about it, I'll let him off getting the name wrong!
you will either be gagging for more or you will have the task of explaining what happened to health and safety officials.. these guys dont fuck around when it comes to rocking out!!
Backstory for how they ended up on TFI Friday going out at 6pm: TFI producer Danny Baker's son Sonny was very into nu metal and Slipknot in particular. Baker lost a bet with his son and the forfeit was to book Slipknot on TFI.
Everyone who watched the broadcast that night would have been able to tell how happy Chris Evans was with messing with C4's watchdogs - he read out letters of complaint the following week.
Brilliant, I remember I had just bought the album after hearing it in school!! couldnt believe it was on tv so early!!! wats happened, metal needs to be on tv more!!!!
@matthewhortop well only ppl who love real music can enjoy it, u cant switch music types it dont work like that so thats y we dont show it on tv, metal is to precious, we cant just show strangers lol
@whydoyoueventry fair enough mate, haha. Keep it in the metal circle, although I heard system of a down on the scott mills radio 1 show last week at about 5pm!! awesome!! haha
This performance always gives me the gosebumps! Man, TFI Friday was such an amazing show as well. TV sucks nowadays, its all X-Factor and Britain's Got AIDS.
I was at the front of the mosh pit at this show - was crazy. I knew the band at the time and was guest listed, so went down to the Portsmouth gig after as well. This was an awesome day! Never seen a crowd riot like they did at the Guildhall - not even at an Atari Teenage Riot gig. hehe
i was in the portsmouth crowd and yes it was a mental night!. i was in the pit and saw one of the security guy take a bottle the face from the balcony and personally laughed at him as he went back backstage. the person who puked from the balcony was not so cool though
@haggard182 haha, yes he did. Well, kind of. It was the week after when Chris Evans announced they had secret backstage footage of Slipknot without their masks, and when he showed the clip it was Lionel Blair taking off Corey's mask and smiling at the camera. Good times.
i remember watchin this, i actually remember anticipating it! and then chris even " that's slipknot with bleed and wait" you just dont get that on tv anymore?!
I have this on vhs back home. I remember recording it, there were little previews every few minutes.....it was a 'big' event for TFI.
And for the record: I don't think it was a mistake with the presenter saying Bleed and wait.....i think it was a joke of sorts.....i remember him introducing some dude called David Lydon Hall as Lyndon David Hall.....just taking the piss i suppose.
@RobTheBuilder Napalm Death were on the show, and while unintentional, Shaun Ryder appeared live on the show twice and said 'fuck' both times. The second he said it several times while performing a cover of Pretty Vacant. While that was unintentional (Chris Evans' face after the latter was priceless), it made TFI Friday an interesting show! All of this at 6PM. So yes, fair play indeed.
@RobTheBuilder umm... he didnt get the name of the song wrong?! was a great night, i was in that crowd! hanging off a camera man who then fell on his arse :)
@TheAktivision actually no they didn't. Corey came first and Josh still did the guitar for the self titled album. then Jim joined after they recorded it.
Oh I love Bleed & Wait ;) lol, he is clueless, if this happened today you'd get all the clueless chavs going "hang on mate, what ua chattin, this ent darren styles" its a shame :(
wow, it sucks that I missed out on this and only became a fan during the subliminal verses era. it sucks that they don't do this kind of stuff anymore.
remember this so well watching this on telly. me and my mates were about 16 and not the biggest metal fans in the world but all we thought this was so cool and rebellious to be on telly at half 6in the evening- it just wouldnt happen nowadays!! television needs to grow some big hairy balls again!!!
I was there and remember getting told very sternly that we weren't allowed to boo the other shit artists or slipknot wouldnt perform. Also didnt Blink 182 perform afterwards for the same crowd, they were prerecording for the next week's show. Good day, good times =)
What year was this? I just want to work out how long I have been a Slipknot fan? In fact I suppose I could work it out in years, months days and minutes if knew the whole date!
I remember watching this at the time and thinking, "That's a cameraman down! And another!" I had goosebumps cos here on my TV was the kind of stuff that'd happen in pits across the country in the mainstream media. How could Top of the Pops survive? Saw them in the pit at Reading Festival with Rage Against the Machine, and Daphne and Celeste (remember them?). It was menacing. There was no way they could keep that intensity up and not self destruct, as Joey predicted in early interviews.
" I saw them at Portsmouth Guildhall 3 hours later. They were late on stage, and the anxious crowd to rip up the seats and get the police waiting outside. A good night all around then! "
I was there too man! Remember the crowd chanting fuck you , fuck you , fuck you to each other? Epic bottle fight, epic band!
FUCK YEAH! I was on the balcony, throwing stuff down at the people in the pit. I remember seeing some girl throwing her bag from the floor to the balcony, and also a chair bouncing off of someone.
I could see the security guys shaking from way up at the top.
@chrisottridge im from portsmouth aswell, i think i remember this being on the paper, i also heard people died, i heard all kinds of stuff from that gig lol tis crazy times, it wouldnt have surprised me, they really put on a show on TFI friday

TFI was taken off because of all the bad language wasn't it? Wasn't allowed to be live anymore which would pretty much ruin the show.
