@MHSRULES12 Lol man i got an 86 and it only goes to "85 mph" but trust me i took that out put custom gauges and our cars run to like 120-130 range stock. They put 85mph back then to pass codes, your 85 might have less hp though since the 86's come with 200 and the one he has 1990 is 225 hp stock. Overall though he drives like i drive :P but ive gotten in trouble with the law by driving this way but psh we own the very best mustangs around :) FOX BODIES

thats just your opinion, I've seen some early 80's cobras that were absolute rockets. since no one leaves any mustang stock, I'd take any 80 mustang over any 80 camaro anyday.
5.0's are a bit slow stock they suffer from the wrong rear diff ratio to realize their potential. 3.55 for auto and 3.73 for 5-speeds is good for stock.
4.10 is getting more towards drag racing gears. 3.73 is probably high enough for a long while even if you supercharge it. they come stock all depending but usually 3.08 or 2.73. I'd stay away from 4.10s though.
@bpowersman5000 3.73 in a manual, 4.10s in the auto is the best and most common. I have mustangs and friends with them, so I am around these cars and work on them. 4.30s in a 5 speed at 70mph is between 2000-2500 rpm.

i bought and sold a 2005 str-4 for my wife and me and my bro raced when the car had 1000 miles and 16000 miles and my old stock mustang with 28000 miles on it would pull about 4 to 6 car lengths we traded cars and did a best out of three the mustang is faster the only thing the my lil dodge beat the mustang in is mpg but dont get me wrong i like dodges i got a 01 truck and a new Challenger R/T now that will blow the mustang off i dont think you raced a old mustang with low miles or a new motor

Maybe its just me, but i think its a lot more impressive to have a car with less than half the motor running the same times. That's 5 liters of american v-8 muscle next to a 2.4 liter four banger. Shouldn't even be within three seconds at the track. Even worse than that is my 2.0 sohc with minimal modification torching 4.6s every single time I get the chance. The mustang may be an american icon, but when it comes to performance, dodge and gm have them beat by miles. Stangs do look cool tho.
How do Chevy and dodge have ford beat by miles? The new challenger has more horsepower and is heavier. The R/T is a few tenths slower than the GT Mustang. The V6 Challenger is the same and the new SRT8 doesn't compare to the GT50. Chevy hasn't even gotten the Camaro out yet and it is overweight! Not to mention 2011 will bring the return of the 5.0 so I think Ford is doing just fine for itself. By the way I've seen 2.3 Turbo 4 cyl Mustangs pulling great 1/4 mile times. look in my profile to see 1
The GT500 base price is 46,325 from what I found, and the vette is 49,415. So I stand corrected, there is three grand difference. But a whole different world of performance.

Wow quads, you sir are a dumbass, while I'll admit that the SRT-4 is a peppy little car it reminds me of this saying: "driving an SRT-4 must like riding a unicorn, no matter how fast or strong it might be...it's still gay as hell." Now if you really want to bring up V8 vs. 4 cylinder then you might want to look into an SVO, it's a 2.3T and will out handle you're little SRT4 and give it a run for it's money with a few bolt-ons and a good driver.

My 91 notch stock motor with 2.73s would rap it up to about 140 in the time it took that to get to 110. It's a 5spd z spec.
I swapped 3.73s in and it's a monster 130 in 4th and it dogs it to over 140 in 5th. Pretty quick

Personally I think the Ford vs. GM arguments are stupid, I love them both.. Why do we fight among each other when it SHOULD be Import vs. Domestic? Anyway, as of NOW Ford is certainly on top and there is no argument; just read a news paper or watch the news and you'll see that FORD is the only domestic company that doesn't need to be bailed out by the government.

American cars are mostly overrated because of the way we measure hp. Not all, but most. But look how far we've come. And insurance companies aren't worried about hp they're worried about stats, and raping us for as much money as they can, and the risk of covering you.....since you like doing "airplanes" and such.

Try asking the thousands of 18-25 year-olds back in the '60s how difficult it was to buy a 350 hp muscle car because of the insurance rates.

There were some that did do that like chrysler's 426 hemi ratings and the rating they first gave novas BUT whatever number you think is there there is really less. It's ok insurance was worried about cars in the 300 hp range not the little 195 hp mustang.

5.0's are a bit slow stock they suffer from the wrong rear diff ratio to realize their potential. 3.55 for auto and 3.73 for 5-speeds is good for stock.

4.10 is getting more towards drag racing gears. 3.73 is probably high enough for a long while even if you supercharge it. they come stock all depending but usually 3.08 or 2.73. I'd stay away from 4.10s though.

Well my honest to got opinion is that 3.73s will be perfect for the street. 4.10s will have your car at maybe 3000-4000 RPM at 60 MPH.

@bpowersman5000 3.73 in a manual, 4.10s in the auto is the best and most common. I have mustangs and friends with them, so I am around these cars and work on them. 4.30s in a 5 speed at 70mph is between 2000-2500 rpm.

i bought and sold a 2005 str-4 for my wife and me and my bro raced when the car had 1000 miles and 16000 miles and my old stock mustang with 28000 miles on it would pull about 4 to 6 car lengths we traded cars and did a best out of three the mustang is faster the only thing the my lil dodge beat the mustang in is mpg but dont get me wrong i like dodges i got a 01 truck and a new Challenger R/T now that will blow the mustang off i dont think you raced a old mustang with low miles or a new motor

Maybe its just me, but i think its a lot more impressive to have a car with less than half the motor running the same times. That's 5 liters of american v-8 muscle next to a 2.4 liter four banger. Shouldn't even be within three seconds at the track. Even worse than that is my 2.0 sohc with minimal modification torching 4.6s every single time I get the chance. The mustang may be an american icon, but when it comes to performance, dodge and gm have them beat by miles. Stangs do look cool tho.

How do Chevy and dodge have ford beat by miles? The new challenger has more horsepower and is heavier. The R/T is a few tenths slower than the GT Mustang. The V6 Challenger is the same and the new SRT8 doesn't compare to the GT50. Chevy hasn't even gotten the Camaro out yet and it is overweight! Not to mention 2011 will bring the return of the 5.0 so I think Ford is doing just fine for itself. By the way I've seen 2.3 Turbo 4 cyl Mustangs pulling great 1/4 mile times. look in my profile to see 1

The GT500 base price is 46,325 from what I found, and the vette is 49,415. So I stand corrected, there is three grand difference. But a whole different world of performance.

Wow quads, you sir are a dumbass, while I'll admit that the SRT-4 is a peppy little car it reminds me of this saying: "driving an SRT-4 must like riding a unicorn, no matter how fast or strong it might be...it's still gay as hell." Now if you really want to bring up V8 vs. 4 cylinder then you might want to look into an SVO, it's a 2.3T and will out handle you're little SRT4 and give it a run for it's money with a few bolt-ons and a good driver.
