adding johnny depp didn't disgrace the ride. changing the lyrics from "Drink up me hearties yo ho" to "Drink up me Ganstas yo ho" for their new disney dance crew show at DCA is definetly disgracing, beating to a pulp and burning it to ashes. shame on you disney.

If there's any issue I have with the ride, it's that the pirates are all looking for Jack. I don't mind Jack himself in the ride but the pirate world should not center around him. They could have had the same add ons without changing the basic plot IMHO

I was pleasantly surprised with this updated version of the ride. Don't knock it until you try it. I agree with Disneynut06, the changes are subtle, same catchy tune that gets stuck in your head for hours (or longer!). :-)

It has to evolve. otherwise people will get bored. In fact i heard the movies saved the ride because there was a rumor they were gonna shut it down :( better to have a re furbished pirates than no pirates at all

The ride was fine, as it was. And there was no truth to that rumor--this ride is so beloved, Disney fanatics would have never permitted this ride to shut down. Attendance is off at all amusement parks, but there was never any indication POTC was going to be shut down.

Good that would make me sad. But still i think they did well. The ride got a needed refurbishment with new sound and lighting. and sure they added a jack sparrow. but the basic ride is still the same :)

this ride is a fan faverite since it opened back in 66.... I dont think they would have shut down the ride, if they didnt upgrade it...But at least they didnt really change the story of the rid

@ilovedisney84 I doubt they ever would've shut it down but you're right that it's made the ride WAY more popular. I was there on the year they added Jack (not the same day mind you) and it was the first time I ever had to wait over a half hour to get on the ride. You can't argue with results

@Dragonrider1227 Well see look at "Mr. toads wild ride" We had SOOOOOO Many guest come in and complain that the ride was gone. Some people didnt even know, That attraction has a HUGE cult following. So does Pirate's. I know people love the attraction but Disney can and eventually (one day)will get rid of it. But they realized they can cash in on it from the success of the film's.

@ilovedisney84 True. Nothing is impossible but Toad was a much smaller ride in scale and much easier to take apart and replace with something else.

And maybe this is a biased opinion, (never cared for the Toad ride) but I'm pretty sure Pirates had a bigger cult following than Toad before the movies

My favorite parts are the Well Scene featuring Carlos the mayor with Carlos' wife and the drunk pirate with the cats. I love Carlos' wife. Elizabeth Swann doesn't appear in the ride.

They should definitely add Captain Jack to Pirates ride in Disneyland Paris, but they do have an excellent cast member who plays Captain Jack for meet and greet he is fantastic.

I think that's the funny part I've been going to Disneyland since I was 2 and I've ridden POTC thousands of times and it is so funny to watch the movies with people who say they love the ride and then can't catch the tiny hidden mickeys or hear and recognize some of the sounds from the ride in all three of the movies! wow people the ride started way before Johnny Depp was put into a movie based off the ride and I think the changes are ok but the original is the best!

All the changes do, is highlight how crappy the movie was in comparison to the ride. Particularly when they use the modern soundtrack.

All it really does is demonstrate how far downhill disney has gone, which is a shame.

Of course, you'll eat it up with a spoon because you love soulless corporate pandering. It's embarassing.
