Abe Schwartz was superb! Him and Lebedeff together and you have Klezmer!!! Love this, nice pics (if a little blurred) they just show human respect for one another and that age is venerated!
Well, folks, according to Wikipedia, "Above all the musical styles which influenced the traditional Klezmer musicians, the Romanian influence seems to be the strongest and most enduring. Traditional Romanian music was heard, adopted and adapted by Klezmer musicians .This fact is reflected in the dance forms found throughout the entire surviving Klezmer music repertoire (e.g., Horas, Doinas, Sirbas and Bulgars etc.)." We have to admit it because that's the truth.
Fantastic! I have loved "And the angels sing" ever since my big brother started to play it on the HIFI in the mid fitties. What a magic och wonderful background to that faboulous song (Matha Tilton preferred to E. G.)
I dont know.... It strongly reminds me of a Wallachian (aka. RumanianÌ song and dance called the ... "Sîrba" which means "The Serbian"... No doubt Rumanian/Bessarabian and Yidish music strongly influenced each other.
Difficult to say, which one was dominant. The itinerant Rumanian Gypsy bands and their Klezmorim colleagues obviously met and exchanged art.
Just dont ask the Rumanians: they'll tell you the dirty Jews stole their thing,,,
No, we won't say that! There's no such thing as a dirty Jew! I am a Romanian and I have many Jewish friends. Actually a lot of our most important composers as well as many singers of Romanian expression, both historically as well as modern are of Jewish origin. Need proof? Just look for Dan Creimerman, Dan Bittman and many others...
What a great treat. Where did you find this recording? Are there any more gems? What format? Can you tell us about the Chasidim dancing, and the event?

One wonders if the particular brand of Orthodox Jews pictured in this video allow themselves to use the internet.
