OK sorry my ignorance. I've never heard of this TV show before and I watched this clip with the sound down. I didn't realise it was actually (openly) about DID. I just assumed it was another Desperate Housewives type of show.

So I guess we have MK portrayed here as mere DID - a natural, wholesome, 'fun' condition. (no disrespect meant to people with DID).

@JanBee1122 This show is far from a parody, and in fact explores the difficulties of the person with DID and their family and loved ones. Just because there are comedic scenes, they are not playing the 'oh look, now she's some other personality' switch as a gimmick, and a great deal of the scenes where she transitions are the most dramatic of the show. I'd advise you to watch a couple episodes rather than judging the treatment of DID based on an advertisment

Multiple Personality (DID) can only be created via horrific abuse and trauma whereby the mind is fractured into different personas. It is not a topic to be parodied. So what's next? A comedy about the child-porn ring? Maybe we can get superstar Dakota Fanning to play the child sex abuse victim, then we can laugh and laugh and laugh! Or better yet, let's make up a sit-com about the Holocaust and have all the characters sitting around sipping tea and playing gin rummy.

@Apo023 No I haven't, I'm just basing my remarks on the way this video portrays DID in the show. It looks like a comedy to me. The way they have her spinning around on the merry-go-round in her different characters sure looks like it's all done in jest. Am I wrong?

@JanBee1122 i wouldn't say this is a comedy...it does have it's funny moments like real life does...i mean, if you can't laugh to your own misfortune you gona go mad, loco, insane...so i would say that in this show it is more laughing with her not at her..

@Apo023 Well I guess that's one way of looking at it. I have studied DID a little bit and personally don't see it as a misfortune to be laughed at. People who have this mental illness get it as the result of the mind fracturing into different alters as the result of unbelievable abuse perpetrated upon them by others. It is not an affliction one is born with. To make fun, even sympathetically, of someone who has been through something like that is completely inappropriate imo.

There is no justification for making a show about a real affliction that is created through horrific abuse and making it cute or even remotely funny. It is contrived to belittle and make fun of those who suffer from this, and I wouldn't hesitate to say, the "makers" are also the "doers".
