Male Genital Mutilation (circumcision) was begun in the US and England to control the behavior of boys. It was known back then that the foreskin IS the primary sensory area of the male genitals. They were trying to eliminate masturbation and figured that if they reduced the pleasure of it, that the boys would stop it. In that respect, MGM and FGM are identical. The only differences between the two are because of physical differences of the parts. But the objective was the same.

@eident9 finally, is the sample from that study related to the 1989 study or the 2006 study? i assumed that it was the 2006 study, but it's not clear. and even so, 267 women? that's a very small sample compared to africa's fgm population which is in the millions. to extrapolate and say of those many many millions of women can still orgasm just fine (infibulated or not) is illogical.

Male Genital Mutilation (circumcision) was begun in the US and England to control the behavior of boys. It was known back then that the foreskin IS the primary sensory area of the male genitals. They were trying to eliminate masturbation and figured that if they reduced the pleasure of it, that the boys would stop it. In that respect, MGM and FGM are identical. The only differences between the two are because of physical differences of the parts. But the objective was the same.

Then there's the Seinfeld episode where the Elaine character basically said same. And I can't remember.. it's either A Perfect World or Sling Blade where there's a male character implying it's gross to not be circumcised. @eident9 finally, is the sample from that study related to the 1989 study or the 2006 study? i assumed that it was the 2006 study, but it's not clear. and even so, 267 women? that's a very small sample compared to africa's fgm population which is in the millions. to extrapolate and say of those many many millions of women can still orgasm just fine (infibulated or not) is illogical.

Well unlike female circumcision, male circumcision is done in a sterile and professional manner. I think this the media focuses on female circumcision because it is an unsafe and unclean process. This IS about gender control. On the other hand, male circumcision has turned into a tradition based on preference.

@faintelement That's a bit too much of a generalization. In some countries, FGM is often performed in hospitals. I don't see how that makes the practice any better. And does it really matter whether a boy is circumcised in a hospital or the outskirts of a village? Either way, he isn't anesthetized. It shouldn't matter how much damage each does or where they are performed. Male and female circumcision are still forms of genital mutilation.

Your parents decide if your circumcised or not so you should take it up with them. As far as this report being sexist? No.
Give your head a shake she's just raising awareness because of what these girls are going through. The WAY they are circumcising these girls is what is wrong. They don't have proper medical attention before, during, or after the circumcision. They cut off things that are meant to be there. Its also dangerous for them to deliver a baby with a circumcised vagina.

WHO does NOT report the male deaths, but you see repeated accounts by Assoc Press showing the large numbers of boys dying from it. Here in America(you know land of the free home of the brave etc) Boys are routinely denied THEIR choice in this most personal matter. We have to end this to protect ALL children, not just the girls.

-Forces women to learn how to have vaginal orgasms instead of clitoral (vaginal orgasms are stronger). Studies have shown women can get dependent on clitoral orgasms and fail to be able to have vaginal orgasm.
Plus if done when they are young they wont remember the procedure
