@jess0robin It's actually not that simple. It's super important to know what you're doing, and she should be wearing gloves, no matter WHOSE skin it is. Sterilization is important. Infections are caused by dirty shit (equipment, needles, etc). Tattoos last for a long ass time.

Professional piercers and artists learn a fuckload about anatomy and body types, skin types, etc in order to apply a tattoo or piercing correctly. Your body isn't something you should be messing around with. Professionals know more than just how to operate a tattoo gun and how to draw a picture. There is much more to it than that and you cannot "teach yourself".

look up synyster ink on facebook. thats a scratcher. i know plenty of artists that learned on their own because they couldnt afford an apprenticeship. im fortunate enough to have my own artist teach me. but she learned on her own. shes an amazing artist. beautiful clean lines, NO scarring she does perfect circles better than most artists and shes gentle on the skin.

i think people who are called scratchers, are those who have homemade tattoo machines, not sterile. Those who have bought kits and have vertually tault themselves how to tattoo are not scratchers, and some of those people are the best people i know to tattoo.
