  • yes it works!!!!

  • Sweet, i have had this copy of diablo 1 for so long.... i was thinking i would never get to play it properly again..

  • HOLY CRAP! THAT'S AWESOME! IT WORKED! THANKS A TON! wwhy do you have to do that though? lol

  • wow! works great! thanks!

  • Works for me.

  • no work :((((

  • Worked for me! :) thanks cornelious!

  • well this sucks. i tryed it didnt work, even put theme to classic. still doesnt ;(

  • Gonna pass... Thnx anyway

  • fast question, where did you download the diablo 1 itself?

i tried to download it couple of times, but when the download is finished it turns out to be a VLC program X.x...

    PLEASE HELP ME :(

  • @blooddunkey buy it...

  • @blooddunkey Run the "VLC" version with virtual clone drive and it will work. I had the same prob.

  • @blooddunkey download dameon tools lite, download diablo torrent as an .iso file then use dtools to make a vitual drive and mount the diablo.iso file too it and then install.

  • Ok so It didnt work for me at first.... but after reading a couple comments i saw one about changing your background to plain black and that worked for me. Thanks For the video. Ive been wanting to play this game for a while but couldnt get the colors right (among other things that have also been fixed) Thanks for the help. I ll sub :)

  • Thanks man it works perfectly

  • surprisingly something so simple worked

  • Ok, for me it didn't work; but it does work if I do the following: first: apply the classic Windows theme in your desktop, and only THEN, make what corneliousjd is saying to do in this video. Perhaps this will work for those who could make it work yet.

  • @GabrielOnuris Thanks, I think you just put the two pieces of the puzzle together. Only worked for me once I did it this way.

  • @utdoob11 I'm glad I could help too. ;-)

  • This didn't work for me, unfortunately. :(

  • Didn't work. Changed to windows classic theme, didn't work. compatibility settings, no go.

  • im trying to play diablo II and have color problems ingame. This does not work for me. I am running win 7 also. Any sugg?

  • OPEN RESOLUTION WINDOW AND CHANGE UR RESOLUTION TO 800x600 THEN JUST START THE DIABLO HELLFIRE AND IT WILL WORK PERFECTLY WITHOUT ANY COLOUR DEFECTS

THUMBS THIS UP IF IT WORKED I HOPE I HELPED U

  • Vid is kinda old, but I've found that if you take the bit level from 32 down to 16bit on graphics options, it tends to turn off glass, and it stops the color problem and can switch back and forth between windows however many times you want without it having a single issue and without an extra window between the game and lets say for example a chat program. I just reinstalled again tonight, and still worked.

  • I can't believe that worked but it did. Nothing else seems to do the trick. Thanks!

Do you have any idea about how to run the game with no CD like one of the latest patches for d2 allows you to do?

  • @LSP55 Try a website called "game copy world" it has patches that allow you to run it without the disc.

  • @corneliousjd Thanks. I just wound up downloading some version with D1 and Hellfire and all patches and cracks applied to both. I lost the link but the file name is Diablo + Hellfire - RPG - ENG - 1996.

I just gave up on trying as I have for over a year. GCW wasn't of any help last time I check nor any patch/crack site. Also tried editing the registry and copying the diabdat.mpq file to the main folder. I own the games so I'm not gonna worry about pirating something I own.

  • works for me. thanks!

  • im very lucky to have gotten here. thank you so much!! hate win7!!!!

  • @elephantbooger liked and subscribed.

  • it worked! thanks!

  • well fuck me. i cant believe that worked. i don't understand it but thanks a ton :)

  • Wow tnx work 100 %

  • thx men work great

  • bullshit

  • @maxime324 lol try it before you call BS.

  • @corneliousjd i try dont worry this ''tips'' do nothing ...

  • @maxime324 The description says it doesn't work for everybody. Some people have to go further and set their background to be a black image, etc. Read the comments, don't be so ignorant.

  • @maxime324

Worked for me, when I turned it into windows classic mode. But still getting a rather small screen. Easy fixed my changing resolution, but cba changing that every single time. Anyone know a better solution for that?

  • OPEN Taskmanager....and disable the explorer.exe....After you finished your game....open taskmanager...click new task and typ explorer.exe...and start it up :).

    Works for all old games

  • @armenius28 If you read the description of the video it says that already. That is not an ideal solution as not all programs running in the systray restore their icons after an explorer.exe crash/quit.

  • @corneliousjd but it does after reboot..:)....so this method is faster and much easier for people who dont want to fuck around with there comp...

  • I have NO IDEA how this can work

i tried everyting, even set resolution at 800x600 - but the first thing was to close that window after set it

i was despereate and THIS was like a charm

    I can't thank you enough

  • Wow, I can't believe that works. Thanks!

  • What a silly fix! But I love it and it works like a charm. Thanks a million.

  • For VISTA or Windows 7, this worked for me. It seems to be an issue linked to your windows theme setting.

    Right click desktop

    Personalize

    Theme

    Change it to Windows classic.

  • @ThePesmergia Worked for me (windows7)

    thanks dude!

  • @ThePesmergia

did this with the screen resolution and it works

  • @ThePesmergia

Even simpler ..... for me, all I had to do was change the background to a solid colour background. No need to wait for changing themes.

  • ++READ THIS++

If some people still have problems turn it on FULLSCREEN as fastbajozero said. It worked for me after that.

  • it worked, u are a genius :D

  • Worked for me perfectly THANKS!

  • This Is such a simple fix you will slap yourself

Left click Diablo 2 shortcut> Properties> compatibility; then put on windows Xp (service pack 2), check Disable video composition APPLY

Then (this is the important part) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Go to Start>All programs>Diablo2>Video Test

after you run the video test it will work

  • @melmel1990 this is for diablo 1

  • @melmel1990 Worked for me, thanks!

  • Tried it. It worked. I wtf'd.

    Thanks anyway!

  • make sure to fullscreen the window with the screen resolution options..otherwise it wont work..hope this helps

  • Made my day. Thanks for putting this up.

  • This fix worked for me. Thanks a ton! I never would have figured out this one on my own. I fiddled with compatibility mode, and that didn't work. But opening the Windows resolution page does.

Incidentally, Blizzard introduced the color problem in one of their patches, because Diablo version 1.00 doesn't have this problem. It was only when I installed the 1.09 patch that I started having the problem. But it isn't a problem for me anymore. : )

  • works for me awesome :D

  • at first i was like ... cmom stop trolling me

but then i was like .... omfg how that even work

    nice job man

  • This didnt work to me but changing the BACKGROUND alone, seemed to of worked perfectly (after the 1.09 patch)

  • @vghardcore

Thanks dude, that really works. As for the fix shown in the vid, it doesn't. Still, I'm glad I came here..

  • my game only opens in the corner of the screen. ive tried everything to fix it

  • Diablo 1 was the best

  • WTF why dose it do that any how thanks that worked awesome for me how ever if some people do try to open the game up from computer and not from games it will not work thanks mcl

  • U are a GENIUS!

  • Well I sure as hell can't explain why this works, but it does. Just tried it

  • Didn't work for me, the search continues.

  • works perfectly, thanks you!

  • weeeee!! thank you very much, it worked!! one down, one to go... no sound :(

  • My colors in Diablo were all wrong, and this fixed it for me! I have no idea why or how, but it did. Just open the Screen Resolution window and play

  • Thanks for the help, it worked fine for me!

  • right click on desktop. click on resolution. now just leave that resolution window open, and run D1. it works. i have no idea how or why or anything about the logic behind it lol. but it works

  • holy shit, that just worked!

  • dude thats awsome! easy and fast!

  • wow works like a charm, thanx

  • this doesn't work in diablo hellfire

  • 256 colors... problem fixed.

  • Worked for me good job :)

  • thank you very much, so strange how this works...

  • Got a simple one that worked for me if anyone hasn't mentioned it already... In Windows 7 set your desktop theme to high contrast black.. You don't need to run in compatability or open the screen resolution window either

  • Comment removed

  • How Bizarre.

  • Thanks so much! This totally works!

  • Omg O.O This is working o.O

  • that was weird but it worked O.o

  • it works thx xD

  • are u a wizard? dude its works ty

  • lmao JUST installed it on my laptop and had the exact same color crap like in you in your vid. and this was the first vid i saw when i googled for that error xD

and it immediately worked for me :D

    thanks much dude!

now i wonder if that still works after i installed the patch 1.09

    (currently playing with 1.08)

  • hmm... not working for me. any suggestions?

  • ROFl actually worked...thought I was being messed with O_o... Thanx alot bro ^.^

  • how do i get the intro to work my screen goes black can someone help me out?

  • mine seemed a bit different like at first the blizzard logo for me the text was white and the background was black, and this fix didn't work. could i be having a different problem?

  • Great =)

    Wonder why it works...

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

  • Hahaha i totally forgot about this. Had to use it for starcraft as well.

  • it worked, IT WORKED

  • didnt work for me, but this did:

Right click on Diablo icon and select Properties.

    Go to Compatibility tab.

Tick the check box for all options under the Settings section: Run in 256 color

Run in 640×480 screen resolution Disable visual themes Disable desktop composition Disable display scaling on high DPI settings

Optional: Set Compatibility Mode should set to Windows XP SP3

runs fine, just dont use alt-tab while playing or you will have messed up colors again.

  • @MeisterLeuchte sry, looks a little messy now thx to youtube but i think you'll know what i mean.

  • @MeisterLeuchte this worked for me too

  • @MeisterLeuchte Same for me. This "fix" of opening the "Screen resolution" option does not work.

However, changing compatability mode to Run in 256 color and 640x480 resolution should be all you need to get the color working right. The other stuff can be left enabled, but disable them if the colors screw up later in gameplay.

  • @MeisterLeuchte THANX :D

  • @MeisterLeuchte

Man how do I install Diablo 1 on windows 7?? there´s a issue that i can´t even install. thne shareware version was ok, but the complete don´t. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! i´ve tried everything, switch to win xp, disable colors.... everything... but didin´t work. need your help.

  • @MeisterLeuchte dude you are my HERO! thanks alot!!!

  • @MeisterLeuchte Listen to him. It works fine.

People who installed the 1.09 update should do this before playing.

    Cheers mate.

  • @MeisterLeuchte that didnt work, neither did the video thing.... so why isnt it working?

  • @olfan92 don't know, it stopped working for me as well. must be the latest nvidia drivers. i did't change anything else. :/

  • @MeisterLeuchte thanks! your solution worked perfectly for me.

  • I can't believe that this isn't a troll. I was sure I was being messed with, tried it and it works.

  • love u man, in a bro way XD

  • Thanks a lot man diablo is the best. i can never make it through diablo 2 though..damn shame aint it

  • How the fuck did you figured it out??

  • Hey man thanks a whole bunch I been trying to get this game to work without making myself look high on the game, and I almost felt that I bought the game for no reason. I am subscribing thanks man.

  • wtf, went and got all nostalgic to play diablo, ran into this problem, and changing the backround to black actually worked...wtf !?

  • Doesn't work for me even when I change the background to black.

  • Setting the background to black is what worked for me. Thanks!

  • lorelab.com/showthread.php/1122-Diablo-Windows-7-Colors-Colours-distorted-rainbow

  • Thanks :D

  • it actually works! its kinda funny how the most annoying problems tend to have the simplest answers. xD

  • Awesome man this worked great for me although my background was black from the beginning so idk if that has anything to do with it....anyways thanks dude!

  • I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed. I changed my desktop background to a solid black, then left the Screen Resolution window open and it worked like a charm. It only worked for me after I changed the background color to solid black.

  • Don't know why it works for you, but it doesn't work for me.

  • @Jedibob5 Never mind. I tried changing my desktop background to solid black, did that, and it worked.

  • @Jedibob5

i try what u said and just worked.

    Just these 3 :

    -compatibility XP SP3

    - run 256 color

    - 640x480 screen

With just 3 "enables" it worked properly, and without no crapy chages

    BTW courneliousjd ur a junk

  • Made it go down from full screen speckling to just on the menu :/

  • @aidan456456 I didn't want anybody to think I was faking any part of it.

  • Wow! Why does THAT actually work? Thats nifty!

  • thanks men, this little trick works....

  • Um...what exactly did you do buddy? I'd would help if you had an explination, not just clicked stuff heh.

  • @LeVaughnX Nevermind ignore this!

  • Hi I´m from Czech Republic. I try it but i must use white background and than it work right thank for tip!!

  • FAKE!!! nothing work for me solid background black colour, resolution window and eaven starting diablo.exe without explorer...

  • Doesn't work. Neither does having black background.

  • I've tried it but it does'nt work! im using windows 7 64-bit on a laptop

  • Wow, I wasn't actually expecting this to work. Thanks.

  • Wow it's miraculous

  • Worked for me just once. The second time it i started the game it was colorful crap again

  • Got mine working by setting a solid background (any color) AND having the resolution window open.

    Win7 64-bit, Diablo 1.09

  • @zarakon

OMG thank you. Your method actually works.

    Steps:

    1. Download patch 1.09

    2. Change Backgroud to solid black.

    3. Keep the resolution screen open.

Thanks Zarakon and please try this method and see if it works for you.

  • does not work. I had to d/l a .bat file for it to work. What about hellfire?

  • How did you do to play in widescreen?

  • @Lutska Most monitors have the option to stretch low 4:3 resolutions to fill the screen. If your monitor doesn't have it check Catalyst Control Center or the nVidia Control Panel, and if you're using an integrated card do yourself a favor and buy something, even a cheapy card online should give you this option.

  • @corneliousjd I'm running a 5650 laptop card and it does not allow this

  • I agree, Screen recorder!

  • Comment removed

  • This works not only with Diablo or Blizzard games! I tested it with Roadrash for PC, had the same problem and it worked with that game too. It seems to solve problems with games, working with DirectX 6 and lower (Roadrash works with DirectX 2!).

  • @stolmasa muthafuckin roadrash!!! i remember that game. kicked so much ass.

  • @Benji19922 It still does, brother... it still does :)

  • OMFG thank you so much. Tryin to play this on my computer on my 1080p TV and the GFX kept fucking up on me... I tried so many others fixed (compatibility modes, resolution stuff, color changing, NOTHING!!) and finally found this.

    Good work!

  • i just found diablo at goodwill and decided to play it for old time's sake. problem is, i can't get it to run full screen on win 7 64 bit, do u know how to fix this prob?

  • ya me 2 ... its work on the beginning , but it is a same on playing the game... plz help!!!!

  • OMFG I LOVE YOU!!!! :D Best youtube vid ever

  • holy crap i love you!!!

  • ok im sorry but that dont work ou whit me...i mean the colors in the beginning are really great but when i start the game they back to be horrible...does anyone know how to help me?

  • fucking thanks man! ive been figuring it out for almost a year! thanks dude!

  • Holy shit, thanks a lot man. I'm scratching my head here :D

And thank you too, google ^__^

  • Yea, this solution is only 50% of it. Turn your background black and it'll work.

Thanks a lot man! Helped me be able to play this original classic! TO lvl 30 I go! =D

  • OH MYYY GOOOD !!!! IT WOKRS WITH BLACK BACKGROUND....COOL !!!

  • Is there any way to fix this problem on Windows XP? I tried the method outlined in the video, and it had no effect. Neither did changing the background to black.

  • Same here... it didn't work for me, but when I turn the background black it magically worked.

    Cool!!

  • Thanks very much for showing us this!

  • the screen thing didn't work for me but changing the background black did

  • Works for me for Hellfire. Thank you!

  • i actually tried this for diablo 2 rather than diablo as shown in the video. It still works ^_^. Now the only problem im facing is i cant get the expansion to install.

    Thank YOu

  • THANK YOUUU!!!

  • Doesn't work for me :(

Oh, I changed background to black and it works, weird ))

  • Doesn't work for me :(

  • I love you. i cant believe it was that simple.

  • wait making my background pitch black DID work..weird O.o
