Actually, you could cover the redstone entirely by using half slabs.

To everyone with a porblem of getting stuck!

All you need to do is make the piston one back and make it stick, then you add a block. The wiring is a bit longer, but it works perfectly!

@jszacilowski Basically, change the pistons to sticky ones. Then you move the piston back a block and put a block infront of it.

The only thing I dislike about this elevator, is that if your position is alittle off. You wont make it too the top if it's too tall.

It doesn't work for me :( the piston pushes me up to the first step of the next stair and then the next piston doesn't hit me well so i get "stuck". i tried to increase the repeater timers but nothing helps.

If someone knows this problem - I'm grateful for any help! (I need this elevator!! :D)

@lavixl building one now on a somewhat laggy SMP server with mixed results.  It's taking extra repeaters to compensate for the lag. One issue I am running into is that the pistons aren't pushing me far enough. I'm getting hung up on the first alignment block.

This method worked great for me in single player but in SMP it won't work. I even tried putting sticky pistons in and that didn't change anything. :( I'm going to look into another type of piston elevator for multiplayer.

piston goes straight through me almost every time. If it doesn't i get pushed up a few more levels than it goes through me again. its never consistent and i doesn't have any dirt near it. Doesn't work on 1.1 maybe?
