back in the day if i remember correctly 12oclock midnight SCI-FI channel was the place to be. classic anime, me and my dad watched everything, ghost in the shell, akira, cyber city, ninja scroll, this. you name it. then you had saiko exciting on sci fi in the mornings where i used to watch neon genesis and martian successor nadesico, toonami, fox kids (remember that? before jetix!) and of course WCW Wrestling!! GOLDBERG! GOLDBERG! GOLDBERG!

@knightking1360 Hell yeah the old late night 12/1am anime on Sci-Fi first time I had ever seen it! I was around 12/13 at the time, some of the stuff was ultra violent and I was hooked on 80's/early 90's anime ever since.

True dat. Anime back then (especially the OVAs) had a raw and gritty look to them that the (relatively lack of) CG around allowed them to do. B/c of how the video quality was, it actually made shit more grimy, so cyberpunk was a definite fit. Today's stuff is usually too polished and clean-looking to spook me out, personally. Even when it's dark and gritty, it still looks so...safe hehe.

@LaSantaMuerte Add to that list both this, Bubblegum Crisis/Bubblegum Crash (the series this is a prequel to) along with Devilman/Devilman Lady, and a few handpicked others, and you have my selections for that list; dark atmospherics, even darker subject matter, and not at all gunshy about blood, gore, guts, and nudity; and to think, this is *tame* compared to some of the stuff that's out there.

does anyone remember the other quality animes that were around in the 90's such as doomed megalopolis, 3x3 eyes, the judge etc. loved those animes. todays animes just dont seem to have the same impact. oh and ad police is ace!
