  • nice job...great

  • The two greatest PURE synths of alltime WORKING SIDE BY SIDE. Pure MAGIC. No sample rubbish.

  • Where did you get the JX-8P keyboard???

  • @vamplov365 you can buy them almost anywhere. ebay, kijiji, used equipment shops, etc.

  • Outstanding!

  • retarded modulation...

  • Неплохо

  • Simply wicked...

  • sounds like it could be a sonic level tune

  • Can you do a Tutorial pls.

  • Hi there, this is great, I'm a big fan of your channel and also Nick Rhodes. I'd love to be able to play the synth keyboard, unfortunately the only advanced synth keyboard my school has has been broken for months so I can't even attempt. I don't want to spend money on one until I've tried it out. I was just wondering how do you make these sounds that sound so close Nick's original sounds in Save a Prayer? I'd love to play DD songs like you do :D

  • Damn cool analogue sounds there mate! Nice pitch bend action. I have made a live lead synth video as well using the Roland JP8000 synth. =)

  • I wish I could play the keyboards. :-(

  • Good job except for the part "pretty looking road, try to hold...." its missing. Wherein the chord pattern are different but you did a nice gob just like Nick R. :)

  • @searcher5123 Check the updated version (see description) :)

  • Great job :)

  • cool

  • being a huge Durannie and the fact Nick is my fave of the group I have to say you did this song justice. AWESOME JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very talented, I wanted to learn this myself!

  • Bad ass!! Love the melody in this song. Stuck with me the day I heard it and never left. Well done and sounds right on.

  • awesome! :D

  • awesome! :D

  • I clicked the LIKE button, but I'm looking for the LOVE button. :)

  • Gli arrangiamenti sul ritornello sono totalmente sbagliati

  • Did you use any external effects on the JX8P part ? I'm wondering how you got that horn sound so lush. I tried chorus in combination with unison and slight detuning but without real success.

    Any tips ?

  • can you do thieves like us by new order?

  • great work!

  • This videos proves that each one of us is blessed with a talent. Yours is making them synthesizers smoke, mine isn't. But I love Duran Duran and it sound very very good!

  • That looks cool.

  • very good man, keep making music !

  • Sounds just like a video game theme.

  • Okay..now that's cool!

  • How can i make mine sound like a Gran piano, Please it sound like a organ or something, and i have no memory or Midi Box thingy, isn't there a way of how i can make it sound like a pure piano.

    Note: Its a Roland JX-8P

  • sorry bro but u fucked this one up bad by playing the vocals

  • Is this a Preset JX-8P Sound you're using? GRX From IN GOOD FAITH

  • i used these on my 80s song jerusalem..love them forver

  • hello mate is there anyway you could send me just the backing sound so i can play along to it? with thanks Patrick

  • You sure you weren't a backup keyboardist for all those bands in the 80's?

All your versions are impeccably played, DX5. Thanks for sharing your talent with the world.

  • fantastic work my friend watched all of your videos and all well played and perfect maybe you could do some howard jones stuff if you can please keep up the good work

  • Grosse Klasse!!!!!

  • Superb cover, thanks for sharing.

  • Love it, thanks!

  • Excellent cover! Just uploaded my version done in Logic, but using all virtual instruments. Not sure how long it will remain online though.

  • Nice work

  • 3:30 wicked :D

  • SOUNDS GOOD> ONE THING BUGGING ME> THE LINE THAT STARTS RIGHT AT BEGINNING NEEDS DELAY ADDED TO IT> and then cut out a little of the repetitive notes and it should be spot on

  • SOUNDS GOOD> ONE THING BUGGING ME> THE LINE THAT STARTS RIGHT AT BEGINNING NEEDS DELAY ADDED TO IT>

  • youve got the idea. arent 80's synths just a work of art?. to remake a song all you do is get the original instruments used in the song thats it.

  • this is unbelievable!

  • Spot on spot on

  • I have subscribed and finding myself returning every hour just to have a listen

  • terrific!!!

have you tried Ultravox "Vienna" Midge Ure "No Regrets"

    Air "Highschool Lover"

  • do union of the snake & sound of thunder

  • very very good indeed!!

  • sounds alot like

Bizzy Bone - Whole Wide World (instrumental)

  • se hacia nuy buen tecnopop en los 80.ese tiempo creativo que añoro.

  • Wow! One of my favorite Duran tunes. They should just sign you up for the band right now! You play it absolutely perfectly. I was able to sing along with it. :o) Thank you.

  • oh! can you try crocketts theme too

  • fukn brilliant mate cheers ^5

  • your modulation kinda makes me lol

  • Unbelievably awesome. Wow.

  • Perfect

  • Your videos simply amaze me. Finally someone gets it! Keepin the 80's alive! Synth sounds are trying to make a big comeback but it will never compare to what it was.

  • Not my usual genre, but nice job. How about taking a stab at "Screen Kiss" by Thomas Dolby?

  • perfect!!

  • HOW DIFFICULT!!! -.-

  • I'm brasilian fan. Tank you so much! São Paulo Brasil.

  • I enjoyed this. JXP sounds great. Good playing!

  • cool!!!

  • Tremendous !!!

  • this is just so cool

  • wow its great!!!! bravo!!!

  • perfect!!

  • 5 *****!!

  • What is you backing track? Is it something you created? How did you record it???

  • DX5 I like your cover, is it possible to get a download?

  • The flute lead is uncannily accurate! Best cover i've seen so far. Great job, man.

  • how do you like the jx-8p? you use it a lot, it seems

  • well done,,,, loved it

  • very compliments, great cover!!!!!!!!!!

  • Modulation stick is set to full octave?

  • @Babyblue57 The maximun bend on the JX 8P is 7 semitones afair (I am not at the studio now). I think JP8 is the same.

I hope to upload a new cover of this track soon (withouth the annoying DX7 sound :)

  • @DX5 The JX-8P tops out at a perfect 5th (7 semitones). The Jupiter can bend a full octave, which is why it sounds noticeably different on the album. :)

That said, convincing job on the patch. Just nature's way of telling you to hack the 8P (which I swear is not an emoticon) to bend more!

Also as a fellow Emax owner, I should say good work on the Depeche Mode knockoffs. :)

  • nice, everything good but those modulation messups, they should sound lighter imo.

  • I love this song it makes the hairs on my arms stand up

  • You're wicked good my friend!!!

  • fantastic! thanks for posting!

  • Is that patch on the JX-8P one that is already on board? Is this synth better with the PG-800?

  • awsome m8 just awesome

  • wicked m8y

  • wow perfect

  • Your skills ar great and your taste in music excellent. Loving the Depeche, Bronski, Pet Shop, Duran et al. Great entertainer

  • chingon esta bueno el video cuate

  • Damn! Perfection............loved it!

  • Muito Bom !

  • DX5..a couple of questions if you happen to reply to these comments:

    1) How many years have you been playing keyboards?

    2) How many keyboards do you own? I've counted about 5 or 6 already just going through some of your vids.

You do great work and should be proud of your skill set. It's quite remarkable. You remind me of a modern day Keith Emerson (for those old enough to remember).

  • i LOVE the arpeggiator btw

  • for the backtrack, how do you sequence the arpeggiator so that the tempo is split in such a manner?

  • You guys should check out some of this guys other stuff on his channel. He's quite amazing.

  • I'll give you props...well done, man.

  • Wow.. you did a nice job with this! All you need is some vocals and you can be a Duran Duran tribute band.

  • enhorabuena. buena version

  • the bass part is missing a half step note.

    but sounds good

  • ive seen all your vids now, highlight of todays youtubing!

    sweet pitchbending!

  • near-perfect recreation of the original song! Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111

  • You are a bad ass!!! I love this song from the 80's!!!! You are very talented.

  • WOW! wonderful!

  • simply awesome!

  • vry nice good job bro.

  • its very good, but the melody is slightly wrong, its much straighter towards the end of the bar, the cascade effect that nick rhodes got was done by using a long digital delay which is tempo matched to the actual riff, if you play the riff dry it sounds very different to the end result.

I will have to post a video of how to do this soon.

  • Just Fantastic!

  • melody actually sounds like original

  • simply awesome! Good job!

  • I love this song.

    thx DX5

  • is that a preset on the jx? how did you get that lead sound?

  • wow, really nailed the tone on most of the synths, especially on the jupiter-like arpeggios and the jx-8p lead! do you have any idea what instrument Duran Duran actually uses for their lead?? i just got a jx-8p on craig's list for $200...i feel like i scored...

  • A Jupiter 8 was used for almost every synth part of the original Save a Prayer, as far as I know

  • @80selectro no. the famous sequenced backing was roland sh-2 through a roland space echo. The lead was Jupiter 8.

  • maybe just one improvement, make the notes sound crisper, it might sound better then.

  • Can you share with us the prophet-like dx7 sound. How did you create that? I'm very courious

  • Well... where are your videos showing your'best than DX5? :P

  • ...and your videos are where??

  • Not bad, man. But your first arpegiator synth part have some incorrect scores. So, I think to add some leads as vocal part, aren`t I.

P.S. One of my fav Duran duran` song^^

  • wow :) it's great

  • Thanks!. But I will re-upload it. It was just a demo of the lead sound, and I will upload the whole song improved. (The DX7 sound is even annoying sometimes :).

    Stay tuned.

  • Hi, is that intro synth riff from the Jx8p? What about the pitch bend synth sound you are using too, I'd like to know the patch if possible. Great work by the way.

  • this is really cool :) there's a band in southern california called "Rio" that plays a sick version of save a prayer - the keyboardist plays that pitch shifter thing lik you do on this clip and they super blast it thru at the end of the song. they have a couple vidz on youtube as well. i really like your key sounz. thanks for posting :)

  • For a pop band they put out some quality tunes and really had a good ear for creating great synth parts. Nowadays its all guitar which is good in some respects but I miss the way that this music used a lot of space rather than a wall of noise like today.

  • nick rhodes may have lacked technical talent, but he was one of the most inventive and influential keyboardist's of all time IMO.

  • Very nice.

  • thanks for sharing.

  • I like it!

  • i aint gonna lie this is fucking sick

  • what's with the thumbs down ratings?? haha, i think he/she means it's great....

    sick = great

  • How did you get DX-7 backlight? Impressive.

  • How much does this sound like the origonal! Fantastic!

  • I wonder if one could use "after touch" to do the vibrato part?

  • @monkeyfuel04 it's not extreme enough. The pitch bend allows more control (to the extreme + wibble/wobble and back again) - aftertouch could mimick it perhaps but Nick Rhodes used the pitch bend so it sounds better than way. I also have a JX-8P and often play this lead part - the roland style bend stick makes it easy - wheels don't cut it.

  • It's much easier to use a pitch bend on a Roland than a Yamaha, when doing the flute type sound.

  • excelente

  • youre great dude! keep it coming!

  • i realy do like how duran duran used that awesome sound through out the song, i think it is realy cool. thanks for posting

  • love it. thanks

  • OK i've commented before. I have to say it so good u bring tears to my eyes i love it

  • amazing!!

you even sound like nick rhodes!!

    bravo!!!!!!

  • Great version of the song! Where are you from?

  • great!

  • Buenísima la canción y bueniísima tu versión. 5*

  • Sehr sehr gut.

    Very very good.

Bueno, me encanta como tocas, lo que tocas, Y TODO EL EQUIPO QUE TIENES MONTAO!! JAJAJA

    Bueno, Cookies monster, un placer.

    Seguiré tus vídeos de cerca.

  • Apparently I'm not the only one who always found this a fun song to play, even though it's pretty simple.

May I suggest you switch the arpeggio from the DX to your JP8000. I had a really perfect repro on my jp-8080, and used my old JD-800 for the horn part, which sounded better than the original IMHOP.

  • Hi. Thanks for suggesting.

The arpeggio comes from a Roland D10 (pre recorded). I've tried the square sound on the JP8000 and altough I liked it a lot, I prefer the D10 sound. Even thought I didn't apply delay as Nick Rhodes did.

  • Fantastic!Congratulations! =)

  • hey thats nice man, impressive sound like the original :)

  • Ive always loved this song..this is gr8

  • anyway, just found the info i needed in your description..:)

  • how do you put the whole accompaniment for the song in these synths. If you use DAW u just get a midi file off the internet, now how about analog synths?

  • SO DAMN SICK!! MAD PROPS!!

  • Nice one!

  • Good job.

  • really have talent so tell me u play by sound or read notes both

  • impressive

  • this is awesome! (:

    nice job

  • Excelente DX5!! tengo un roland JW50 algo viejito. Podría tener el midi de tu canción? english spoken also.

  • What patch are you using for the pan flute sound on your JX8P? I've got a JX8P too, and I'd like to try to do this song as well.

  • Nice:)

  • A bit loose and weak on the pitch bend bits on the lead. One of my fave lead synth parts, and you came close, but your version seems a bit lazy. Just being critical. I'd love to spend an evening listening to you, a good drummer, a guitarist, and a great vocalist. You got talent, homeboy...

  • You're amazing you have capture the sound of duran duran keep jamming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • any chance of charlotte sometimes by the cure?

  • excellent

  • splendid job!

  • Despite the delay of the arpeggio, this is a very nice version!

    Cool job dude!

  • Not bad, but the delay of the arpeggio could be much better.
