@SkateNater ... hi guy! i used to skate at the roxy - 515 w 18th st - nyc - i think i made that comment after a pitcher of sangria or margaritas at tortilla flats - i used to do semiramide at the met - they can't do that anymore - not able to get enough bel-cantos plus - everyone likes laboheme - do you play violin ? ...
Aber ein wunderbares Beispiel dafür, was uns mit dem Niedergang des Bel-Canto und der variationsreichen Aufführungspraxis der Aria de Baule verloren gegangen ist.
What a remarkable difference between this voice and that of a Baroque singer such as Maria Cristina Kiehr. Kiehr sings with voci bianché, whereas Genaux has a very pronounced vibrato. Quite an "acrobatic" aria that, I'm sure, is very difficult to sing.
Stunning vocal technique. Her breath control is flawless. Her lower register timbre is so lovely. The control she has of her intonation is marvelous. This is vocal gymnastics that please the ear. Thanks!
This is an aria written by Riccardo Broschi that was used by Vivaldi in is pasticcio opera Bajazet. It is not a Vivaldi aria, it was only used by him.
How lucky we all are to be able to hear someone as incredible as Vivica singing the most difficult repertoire ever written for the human voice and sounding wonderful at it! Thank you Vivica for giving us innumerable hours of pleasure and joy!
Incredible. When did this woman start to sing Handel? When I was learning to sing "Twinkle twinkle little star"? (O.K. so it's Broschi. But in the same STYLE!) She is famous? I've missed something here? (it's been some time since I worked as a music critic.) She is REAL???
... please guys ... give me a break ... castrato or not ... no man could sing all of those pizzicato notes ... maybe paco di lucia could do it on his guitar .....
In fact Vivica was not who put the voice to the great Farinelli, it was a digital mix of two voices, Ewa Mallas Godlewska soprano, and Derek Lee Ragin, contra-tenor. In any case the timbre and the registry they are really similar. In my humble opinion the technical execution of Vivica surpasses widely the digital voice. Once again the reality surpasses the fiction

This aria was written by Farinelli's brother, so this is about as close as we can get to understanding what the castrati were capable of.

Wait, so the fact that it was written specifically for Farinelli means nothing to you?

... ok - rossini wrote "semiramide" for his wife colbran - but she wasn't up to singing it ...
