The people who came here wanted to come here. For most there was "nothing" in their country of birth. They wanted freedom and a chance to make an honest living.

We have freedoms; but freedoms demand eternal vigilance. We have to make sure that our laws stay "Secular" with no favoritism to any religion, ideology, race etc.. We also have to secure our borders to guarantee decent wages for our own people.

So it's safe to say with Argentina that they have 20-25 million argentines with italians ancestory (the majority of population). Brasil would be 25-30 million italians. It's never safe to say an exact number when dealing with the population.

My great-great-grandfather passed through Ellis Island in 1907 at 9 yrs old from Lercara Friddi, Sicily. I came to NY form the same place in '03 when I was 10.

I mean wasn't the reason why they came to America was because where they lived was bad, or just plain poor and unhealthy? Think about what all the immigrants have done for America. I mean, we all have ancestors that came from some other country. What's American isn't always "American."
