Not to mention Antoski's dirty hit on Buekeboom's knee... The Canucks competed in this series the only way the could... by playing dirty, and knowing that the Canadian officials would give them the benefit of the calls. Game 5 was a disgrace, on 5 of the 6 Vancouver goals there was an OBVIOUS penalty commited by a Canucks player right before it was scored. Reminds me a lot of how the 2010 gold medal game was officiated. Or the 96 World Cup for that matter.
Pat Quinn is one of those guys who is impossible to like. He was just like the Murray brothers, he will bring your team up from the bottom of the league...but when it really counts, he can't win anything. He also encouraged his players to play dirty all the time. The amount of cheap shots the Canucks took in this series was unprecedented. Babych, Hunter, Momesso....these guys were dirty their whole careers. He turned Bure into a dirty player. Yet he still lost. Pat Quinn is an asshole.
Apparently the linesman forgot about the 2 line pass rule right before this goal was scored. Either way the Rangers had to battle through the biased Canadian officials in this series (How was Bure not suspended for his deliberate breaking of Jay Wells' nose?..or the obvious takedown of Alex Kovalev that led to Lindens 1st goal in game 7, or the fact that it should have been a hooking call and not a PS in game 4, or the bogus offside call in game 5) Better team still won though.
Where the fuck or what the fuck have the rangers done since ? NOTHING!!!!!!!!! Won that series by a thread , and the rangers team that year was stacked!
This series was legendary. It was tough to lose, but I tip my hat to the Rangers. Hasn't been a cup finals as good since.....probably the closest was the Edmonton / Carolina one, but this one was better.
the 1994 Canucks are better.

@Nox404 The ending sucked. :( Every series that season was unbelievable.

Bob Cole makes the goal sound so anticlimatic with his tone of voice when he scores.
Nox404 4 years ago
Indeed. He actually makes me sorta yearn for Gary Thorne and his ridiculous screaming.

Nice hustle back, Leetch....some "Defenseman"...

Yeah, because ringing a shot off the crossbar from between the circles, then getting knocked down makes it really easy to get back.

To be fair, he spent all of his energy describing one of McLean's 147,000 saves.

What I would do to see a repeat of this...the Canucks need to get their game on. Still a fan of em, regardless of how well they do, though. ^_^
