  • just downloaded their updates and now my ovi maps is having a hard time triangulating my position!

  • I have the nokia n97 and that is a old version of maps i just upgraded my n97 and the maps differ from that...

  • i hate nokia i just hate it... and yes im a hater

  • Compass function work well in this one. the old ovi maps often automatically disengaged the compass for no apparent reason. it's one edge Ovi maps has over the Garmin. The Garmin Mobile XT need you to move in order to get your bearing. Quite troublesome when one stop at the traffic light. the map goes haywire when in 3D or direction up mode.

  • is ovi maps are good as garmin(hp)

  • Do you need Internet Connection in order for GPS and MAPS to work??

  • @7sssen No. Just pre-download the map using your PC and make sure you turn off all online options in the settings.

  • you didnt show us the hybrid mode or satalite

  • i knew it

you are recording by nokia N95

    so what do you think

    n95 8gb or n97 is best !!

and does ovi maps gps need internet to be work or its just as garmin ?

  • thank you!!!!

  • is free for gps but still charge for 3g /wifi rite?

  • Correct!

  • see if you have a contract that doesn't include free internet or whatever will this cost money??

  • Right, it should free to download and use.

  • @TheMattieb123 I never spent a even a cent after i install this on my phone. just make sure you disable all the online options.

  • what is the price of this?

  • The Nokia N97 is about $500 nowadays, maybe less. The Ovi Maps software is free but 1-year voice navigation is about $60 I believe.

  • hmm Q. do i have to DL map so i can use my navigator? and this OVI thing.. what does it do? thankies :3 i really dont have any idea abt this and i wanna use my map :(

  • Yeah, you have to download maps for your area but it all should be free.

  • yeah.... about that internet connection... i dont know if u have seen that, but ovi maps requierd it not only for POI's but for each adress search or even when u scroll the map around, there is an data transfer indicator counting more and more kB's (just next to satelite status indicator)

so for me those maps are copletly useless, unless u prepare whole trip (with adress changes) in home/where internet connection is, or have to pay for network provider. Kinda stupid. Pls reply if im wrong...

  • FYI Ovi Maps can pre-load all maps, POIs, addresses, postcodes etc. for a whole country or continent in advance. So you can operate it completely off-line. Very useful when no 3G connectivity or international roaming.

This is what I did for a recent trip to Hong Kong I done using a Nokia E71 with Ovi Maps. Because of the high international data roaming charges from the UK. Ovi Maps served me very well here operating entirely off-line.

  • could you pls tell me how you did that because i can't find a way...

  • You can use the Nokia Maps Updater/Map Loader tool. Get it from the Nokia website, from the Explore Services section. It's the same place you get Nokia PC Suite from.

It downloads all the maps, POIs etc, that you want, and puts them onto the phone from the PC via USB.

  • What he said

  • Hi MrSpark recently i purchased a nokia n97 i am trying to connect to navigator but its not connecting at home or outside wht could be the problem i live in ireland

  • thanx for useful post.. Good to know! :)

  • Does it need to use the internet to do this? Will it cost me money in other words?

  • only navigation costs money. positioning is free

    but its *cough*crackable*cough* ^^

  • How do you crack??

  • i have a cracked version on my n95. it works with 5800 xm but with a few problems but i don't know if it works with n97

  • If it works with Nokia 5800, it will work on Nokia N97. They're just the same.

  • inches manos temblorinas

  • Thanks for posting this. 5 stars

  • IPHONE RULZZ

  • i need to have internet connection to be able to use the maps/gps app right?

  • no, only if you want to use a-gps

  • So if i am on a road trip, it won't show me any POIs that are coming up?

  • recorded with n95 ;)

  • sticked on his head :P

  • How good is this GPS? would you trust it on a trip across the US?

  • It seems pretty reliable though it seems to search for "points of interest" you need to be able to download data.

  • Thumbs up for me if you have a N97

  • fuk this navigation? why dont buy viliv s5 which has real gps 3g connection windows vista

  • Ok! Will do!

  • About the Viliv S5 UMPC. Does one really need a full blown Windows Vista computer just for GPS sat-nav? What's the battery life like on the Viliv? 2 hours at most?

If one is going to use a separate device to the smart-phone for GPS sat-nav, might as well just get a dedicated TomTom or Garmin or something.

  • N97 IS THE BEST PHONE!

  • Nice vid... Im so gonna buy this phone soon! Did u pay anything for Maps?

  • Its a free download from Nokia. Voice guidance is a subscription service though for about $80 a year. Each phone comes with 3 months free Voice Nav. Occasionally you can find annual licenses on ebay for <$20.
