  • Huh, how can you possibly manage to blow all those 555's? That's probably the easiest IC ever. BTW i hope you used a transistor (or a FET) between the contact point on the remote control, otherwise I know why it turned into a smoke-generator...

  • I was, but the only transistor I has was a TIP120, and I just couldn't make it work.

Rather than wait a week till my next chance to get downtown, I thought I would cheat and just use a big resister and hope for the best. In retrospect, that was a bad idea.

I don't know why, but I have bad luck with 555's and stripboard.

Breadboards, PCBs and 555's play nice, but for me, stripboard + 555 = blue smoke of failure.

  • Oh! Now I get it! Why didn't you say that in the first place?!

  • its more fun to say it the complicated way

  • Huh? Could you please restate that in English??? The only part I understood was the last 40 seconds!!!

  • sorry.

here, i will translate that into not-nerd English:

there are 2 ways I can do this:

the free, do-it-yourself way, or the expensive use-their-stuff way.

    I'm gonna try something..........didn't work.

I'm gonna try something else...didn't work.

I'm gonna try one more thing...didn't work.

I give up, I'll do it the expensive way.
