Could this plan be switched to where I could use balsa wood instead of foam? And if so, what kind of motor would you suggest, since I'm just guessing that balsa wood (along with the glue) would be just a bit heavier than foam? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
Awesome plane. Great flying and stable looking model. From watching the build is this just three channels? Elevators and motor control? I hope to soon purchase your plans and build one.
@wdibert The plans actually belong to Jason Forsythe (AnyAirRC here on Youtube), I was just one of the first to build it and make a video after he released the plans.
Yes, it is only 3 channels, throttle and elevator/ailerons (elevons). Good luck with your build, I think you will really enjoy it. Thanks for the comment and subscribing too
@KrystalTheVixenFan if you buy it it will be trash if you crash it, they're very weak so its better that you learn how to build it yourself so if you crash, you just build another :)
@KrystalTheVixenFan Sorry, I don't own the copyright for the plans and do not have permission to kit the plans for money. I only cut stuff for my own personal use. However, if you happen to be in southeastern NC and you have the foam, stop by and I would be happy to cut you one for free.
@ratdoghippy Not really...the method used to cut the parts really has nothing to do with the plane flying or not. I use this method because it saves me tons of time. Also, running this programming this equipment (among other things) is what I do for a living so this is pretty easy for me. I love building and flying these depron foamies, not so much the taping together of PDFs, cutting them out, tracing on the foam...blah blah blah
Nice work! Wow, wish I had me one of those machines. :) :) (Phlatboyz (kram242) has a similar machine that you can home-build believe it or not.) Nice job on the plane! - Ed
Crazy! How does the CNC cut and whats keeping the foam stationary? I couldnt tell if it was using a mill or what. Didnt see what looked like moving parts on the cutter. Very cool.
The foam is held in place by vacuum that is pulled through the MDF that the foam is laying on. In the video there are 2 different cutters used. The first is a 3/4" V-bit that is bevelling some parts that need to be folded. The second bit is the 1/8" end mill router bit that actually does the cutting. I know they don't look like it but both are turning at 18,000 RPM.
Very cool to see one built already! Nice CNC, I use a PhlatPrinter CNC to prototype my designs sure saves time. I like your paint scheme. It looks like it flies great.
Thanks Jason, the CNC has made this a very enjoyable hobby for me. It takes all the hassle out of PDF plans and all thats left is the fun stuff...actually building and flying.
