I agree with many of the critics of this list. To say the very least, it's a little flaud. According to Bob Costas and many other sports people, Mickey Mantel is without a doubt, one of the five ( 5 ) best baseball players to ever put on a uniform. He made it to the Hall of Fame on the first ballot and I don't think the sports writters did that because they felt sorry for him. Even the great Joe Dimagio didn't do that. Whoever made this list needs to re-examine it.
Easily one of the top ten WORST "top ten" list of players ever!Richie Ashburn,Pete Rose,Nolan Ryan -but not Walter Johnson,Lefty Grove,Honus Wagner,Rogers Hornsby,Mickey Mantle,Stan Musial,Jimmie Foxx...??!!Ryan has record for career walks (so much for having "good control")."Tenacious" Rose made more outs than anyone in history and Richie Ashburn hit a whopping total of 29 homers in his entire career!
Well Nolan Ryan could aim extremely well ( hence the most k's). The fact that he could throw that hard for an entire game and have good control makes him an almost once in a lifetime player. I do agree the list is missing some obvious players. Without constant injury and alcohol I believe Mantle would have been the best. Plus baseball has gotten progressively harder since the dead-ball era through the 1940's. So Ryan and Rose faced harder competition than Johnson, Wagner, etc.
Horrible list. Nolan Ryan and Pete Rose? They aren't near the top 10. And where's Stan Musial, Honus Wagner, Mickey Mantle, Walter Johnson, and all of those greats? And you choose Richie Ashburn?! Your top 3 are good but the rest are in awful order.
@BlindBusDrivr Nolan Ryan- most strike outs. Pete Rose- most carreer hits. Maybe not top ten, but not close? I respectfully disagree. It's also about how they played the game, nobody in the last 50 years was more tenacious than Pete Rose. Nolan Ryan could run his fastball into the 100's for an entire game. They deserve to be high on the list.
Nolan Ryan and Pete rose might not be top 10 for their positions.. How in the world do you put them on this list. Yet you leave Johnny Bench and Mickey Mantle off you're list ..
This is good except what about Mickey Mantle and Stan Musial. and seriously marshmellow756 prince fielder is the freakin crippled ball boy compared to these guys
@fernandoj1221 what? I didn't get your comment, but I think you are trying to say he was only 29 years old??? If you are, he was actually 38 years old when he died.
Richie Ashburn is disappointing. He was a nice player who got into the Hall of Fame through the Veterans Committee mostly because he was a nice guy and long time announcer. He was along the lines of Brett Butler for our younger fans. He may not be a top 100 outfielder. Nolan Ryan is way out of his league here. If picking only one pitcher ever, it cannot be him. Gun to my head, one pitcher would be either Christy Mathewson or Walter Johnson. Plenty of other choices. I love Pete Rose, not top 10
i would do this willey mays babe ruth ted williams honus wagner cy young ty cobb wiley mocovey ken griffey jr and nolan ryan but i think ten years from now albert puhulse will be number 1
who the **** is Richie ashburn...he's not even in the baseball hall of fames top 100, where is yogi berra, the greatest catcher and man ever....he went 550 at bats in one season with only 12 strike outs!!!!
@OldSchoolTributes yogi berra isnt the greatest catcher ever.He was great but not the best.. Johnny Bench and Bill Dickey were better and Joe Mauer if he keeps it up will be a better catcher
Richie Ashburn are you serious the guy hit 29 home runs didnt have 3000 hits and lifetime BA was .304 he is not even a top 5 Philly! Ken Griffey Jr easily replaces him most of us are all old enough to remember how great he was and if your not ask someone. Nolan Ryan won like 30 more games than he lost yeah he threw a lot of no hitters put him on a great pitcher list if you want a pitcher try Gibson but the ashburn thing is going to bug me till you fix this and put someone else up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Richie Ashburn? Gotta say, first time I've seen him in a top 10 player list. Or a top 50 list for that matter. My top 20 non-pitchers (no PED users): 1) Babe Ruth 2) Willie Mays 3) Honus Wagner 4) Ty Cobb 5) Mickey Mantle 6) Ted Williams 7) Stan Musial 8) Albert Pujols 9) Hank Aaron 10) Tris Speaker 11) Lou Gehrig 12) Joe DiMaggio 13) Ricky Henderson 14) Mike Schmidt 15) Joe Morgan 16) Jackie Robinson 17) Jimmie Foxx 18) Rogers Hornsby 19) Frank Robinson 20) Eddie Collins
lol you dont know baseball.reggie jackson top 10 please..ruth was a great pitcher for 6 years.342 career ba stoled home 11 times and no one took an extra base on his.great arm.hit most of those hrs in 14 years.once by himself outhomered every team an the majors and twice every team in the al by himself.had highest winning percentage of al;l HOF pitchers till whitey ford was inducted.had the record for most concecutive scorless innings piched in the WS till ford broke it.the babes best.period.
Here's the bottom line. During the middle 10 healthy seasons of Babe Ruth's career, here is his per season average:
.365 BA 50 HR 148 RBI
If any player today did this for even one season, they'd win the triple crown. Ruth averaged this for an entire DECADE!!! And for those of you who say he wasn't a great all-around player, might I remind you that he was the best left handed pitcher in baseball. Let's see these other guys do that.
This one isn't even close people, let's get real.
That was attrocious, but here's my take: 1. Barry Bonds* 2. Babe Ruth 3. Ted Williams 4. Willie Mays 5. Roger Clemens* 6. Ty Cobb 7. Walter Johnson 8. Lou Gehrig 9. Randy Johnson 10. Lefty Grove Honorable Mentions (In No Particular Order): Jimmie Foxx, Greg Maddux, Stan Musial, Albert Pujols, Cy Young Feel free to object, I will defend each position.
@calebzbleeding1 Yes, Barry Bonds is the greatest all-around player of all-time, he earned 8 gold gloves and 7 MVP's. He had 2200+ Runs, 2900+ Hits, 600+ Doubles, 760+ homeruns, 1900+ RBI, 500+ Steals, 2500+ Walks, 5900+ Total Bases, and 600+ Intentional Walks. To go along with that, he had a .444 On-Base Percentage, a .607 Slugging Percentage, a 1.051 OPS, and a 181 OPS+. Also he had the greatest 4 year stretch (2001-2004) in history which included the greatest season (2004) in history. :)
@calebzbleeding1 You're telling me steroids gave him 500+ Steals, 2500+ Walks, 600+ Intentional Walks and a .444 On-Base Percentage and 8 Gold Gloves. All steroids gave him was 200 more home runs, and 200 less doubles. Of course that effects Slugging Percentage and RBI total but nonetheless, that's an extremely impressive career. It's not his fault he might've used something that was too good. :)
@matt1vols That's exactly what I'm telling you. Nothing against him though. I loved the guy. But he was definitely NOT the best player of all time. Great numbers=steroids. You look at other guys like Teddy ballgame or the Babe(even though he was on monkey testosterone) and you actually see why they were great. They didn't need roids to be as great as they were. Barry was great outside of the bigs too, but without the help of his ball-shrinking pills, he definitely wouldn't have done as great.
@calebzbleeding1 Yes, but the bottom line is his accomplishments--whether he did steroids or not--are mor impressive than any position player. I believe that you should never take away from somebody, even if they don't necessarily deserve what they achieved (shout-out to Floyd Landis). You can not possibly tell me that, there is a better played than a 'roided up Barry Bonds. That's what an asterisk is for (notice my original post).
@matt1vols Well you shoulda said that in the original so you could've avoided this little conversation. He was on roids. I don't care about his accomplishments because he himself...alone...without roids couldn'tve done those things. Though as I said, I did love him. Bye
this list is terrible. richie ashburn isnt even one of the top100 greatest players. shoeless joe jackson, rogers hornsby, jimmie foxx, and stan musial all belong on this list.
!) babe ruth 2) ty cobb 3) ted williams 4) willie mays 5) lou gehrig 6)hank aaron 7) joe jackson 8) stan musial 9) rogers horsnby 10) jimmie foxx
You can't compare players of different eras on stats alone, but you can look at how dominant they were (based on leading the league.) On dominance within era... my top 10 hitters (plus honorable mentions): Babe Ruth Ty Cobb Rogers Hornsby Barry Bonds Ted Williams Lou Gehrig Willie Mays Mickey Mantle Jimmie Foxx Hank Aaron HM: Stan Musial HM: Mike Schmidt HM: Honus Wagner
@sc0ner Add Albert Pujols, Ken Griffey Jr., and Vladimir Guerrero to the Honorable Mentions. Griffey and Bonds were the "stuff" in the 90's, and Pujols, Guerrero, and Bonds are the "stuff" in the 2000's. And Pujols will definitely be on this prestigious list at the end of his career, but good post!!! :)
You forgot Joe Jackson, Cy Young, Reggie Jackson, Willie stargell, Catfish Hunter,
And Jackie Robinson!! NONE OF YOU KNOW BASEBALL AND THERE ARE MORE THAT I LEFT OUT BUT BABE RUTH WAS SO NOT THE BEST PLAYER HE WAS A GREAT HITTER BUT NOT PLAYER DUMBASSES
@cody420gilda i think it is #1 hank aaron 2 cy yong 3 micky mantle 4 reggie jackson 5 honus waggner 6 jackey robinson 7 ty cobb 8 babe ruth 9 joe jakson 10 albert poujls
@billybackd00r lol yah it is not easy throwing 7 no hitters lol but I like all your pics besides Joe mauer he's good right now, still has 10 years to proove he can do it consistently, I'd put forsure carlton fisk over him, and probly pudge, only than that I like them lol, good stuff
You put Pete Rose AHEAD of Ty Cobb? Are you fucking crazy! Rose isnt even in the top 30 players of all time let alone in the top 10, all he could do is hit singles, he could barely steal any bases and has a batting average of 303. Ty Cobbs batting average is 367!! He stole over 800 bases and stole home 54 times! He could make it home from 1st on a infield OUT! He hit 400 3 times in a row and won the triple crown! Cobb is easliy in the top 3 all time
Here's what I think. Aaron, Mays, Williams, McCovey, Musial among others were ALL better than Ruth (a one tool player). Rose's betting on games did NOT make him a better player. It's inexcusable, but he is still top 5 all time. Quit crying and get over it. Williams is the best all around hitter the game has ever seen (and my personal favorite). Again, just my thoughts.
@TheRealBluesisblood Apparently you aren't aware that Ruth had 4 out of the 5 tools---he was a fantastic right fielder, he apparently never made a bad throw and had an uncanny ability to catch balls he wasn't supposed to.
If you are going to include a pitcher then Koufax had much better stats than Ryan. And of course Walter Johnson was fantastic. I also woudn't include Ashburn and Rose. People get subjective with their picks and tend to include players from their favorite team.
kid the players you picked as the 10 suck balls Mickey Mantle, Roger Marris,Yogi Berra Cy young are all better then the first 4 players you put you have shitty judgment when it comes to baseball
Good video! i do disagree with u a little tho. steriods or not barry bonds is top five of all time. i mean a lot of other people took steriods and are just prospects at best. and i think willie mays should be #1. babe was good but not the best. and micky mantle should be in there. and ricky hendersen should be top five dude could run! hey, great video tho man!! Very good and accurate, good taste!!
Good video! i do disagree with u a little tho. steriods or not barry bonds is top five of all time. i mean a lot of other people took steriods and are just prospects at best. and i think willie mays should be #1. babe was good but not the best. and micky mantle should be in there. and ricky hendersen should be top five dude could run! hey, great video tho man!! Very good and accurate, good taste!!
babe was a pitcher he didn't have to field...nor did he have to run b/c he jacked homers...the game then is nothing like the game now....pujols? cy young
Fuck you the Babe was super overrated couldn't field and couldn't run two intangibels of baseball a top 10 list needs to consist of 5 tool players, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, Roberto Clemente, Honus Wagner, Oscar Charelston, Pete Rose.
@27metube27 Williams was a two-time MVP, six-time batting champ, won the triple crown twice, and hit 521 HRs. He even served in the military from 1942-1946 in his prime baseball years. Anyone who doesn't think he's the greatest pure hitter ever either doesn't know who he is or....well that'd be the only logical reason.
@marcusl4 and gehrig, look at the stats, actually gehrig had the most dominating hitting stats in history,on paper and babe was right there with him but gehrig actually hit for higher average.
On paper gehrig and ruth have the best two stats as hitters in history and actually no one even comes that close!!! when did you remember stats like .379 average,47 homers,179 rbi's 52 doubles,18 triples.the best hitting stat ever belongs to gehrig.
pretty god ones but i think that ken ripken should have been in and maybe barry bonds and ken griffey jr. and brandon phillips hes a good one to he might make it
not a bad lineup, but id prolly have walter johnson as my pitcher, ty cobb as my 1b, and honus wagner as my ss, then again, cobb miht start fightin' wagner. lol
Richie Ashburn? Nolan Ryan? Pete Rose? Pal if you think any of these three are in the top ten of all time you don't have a clue about what you are talking about. Maybe these guys are in your top ten of favorite players, but they do not belong in anyones list of the top ten players of all time.
besides the best hitter of all time never even played in the majors there was a negro league player who was named josh gibson who hit over 850 homers they believe and he hit at least 4 off of satchel paige who may be the best pitcher of all tiem
lou at 5 he got a disese names after him Aaron before Mays and Williams A-roid is a bust nowHoffman before Holliday how could he be first and thank you for not using Barry Bonds
Chipper Jones is the second best switch hitter of all time, Mantle is first, and he isn't a future legend? and where is Jackie Robinson and Honus Wagner.. or Walter Johnson or cy young. Rickey Henderson has stolen more bases than anyone.
I agree with many of the critics of this list. To say the very least, it's a little flaud. Cobb is easliy in the top 3 all time
tatomuck18 2 years ago
Are you kidding? Nolan Ryan isnt even in the top 20 pitchers of all time, let alone top 10 overall players ever!

Ruth is the greatest. Just look at 1921. So far ahead of everyone else. And he was a great left handed pitcher too.

where are mah cuban players, Luis Tiant, THE LEGEND!!!, ESPN made an illegal documental just to HONOR HIM!!
305kubanboii 2 years ago
Here's what I think. Aaron, Mays, Williams, McCovey, Musial among others were ALL better than Ruth (a one tool player). Rose's betting on games did NOT make him a better player. It's inexcusable, but he is still top 5 all time. Quit crying and get over it. Williams is the best all around hitter the game has ever seen (and my personal favorite). Again, just my thoughts.
TheRealBluesisblood 2 years ago
@TheRealBluesisblood Apparently you aren't aware that Ruth had 4 out of the 5 tools---he was a fantastic right fielder, he apparently never made a bad throw and had an uncanny ability to catch balls he wasn't supposed to.

How did Richie Ashburn make the list? Over Musial? Clemente? Robinson? Mantle? I know everyone's entitled to their opinion, but jeez....
buckfan1969 2 years ago
If you are going to include a pitcher then Koufax had much better stats than Ryan. And of course Walter Johnson was fantastic. I also woudn't include Ashburn and Rose. People get subjective with their picks and tend to include players from their favorite team.

Very good and accurate, good taste!!

marcusl4 2 years ago 8
Fuck you the Babe was super overrated couldn't field and couldn't run two intangibels of baseball a top 10 list needs to consist of 5 tool players, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, Roberto Clemente, Honus Wagner, Oscar Charelston, Pete Rose.
fanilyguy 2 years ago
Barry Bonds has more homeruns so he is better. He also has over 500 stolen bases.
tatomuck18 1 year ago
@marcusl4
No, Honus Wagner had a better batting average & K.660.

@27metube27 Well for one, Teddy wasn't on monkey testosterone.
calebzbleeding1 1 year ago
@27metube27 Williams was a two-time MVP, six-time batting champ, won the triple crown twice, and hit 521 HRs. He even served in the military from 1942-1946 in his prime baseball years. Anyone who doesn't think he's the greatest pure hitter ever either doesn't know who he is or....well that'd be the only logical reason.
calebzbleeding1 1 year ago
@marcusl4 and gehrig, look at the stats, actually gehrig had the most dominating hitting stats in history,on paper and babe was right there with him but gehrig actually hit for higher average.
On paper gehrig and ruth have the best two stats as hitters in history and actually no one even comes that close!!! when did you remember stats like .379 average,47 homers,179 rbi's 52 doubles,18 triples.the best hitting stat ever belongs to gehrig.

Richie Ashburn? Nolan Ryan? Pete Rose? Pal if you think any of these three are in the top ten of all time you don't have a clue about what you are talking about. Maybe these guys are in your top ten of favorite players, but they do not belong in anyones list of the top ten players of all time.
